Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let me have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, this is a tough one to get excited about. We’ve got The Jetty as the only spot on the cards, and it's a sandbar setup that's best for beginners, but the forecast is a real mixed bag.
For the first week, from July 3rd through to July 11th, it’s pretty grim. We’ve had days and days of tiny, weak swell – we’re talking 0.7ft to 2.9ft at best – and the wind is all over the place. Most of the time it’s cross-shore or cross-onshore, which just messes up the surface. Even when the wind does go offshore or cross-offshore, the swell is just too small to do anything with. The combined wave energy is mostly weak, hanging around the 20 to 70 mark, which is nothing to write home about. There’s nothing surfable here for over a week, a real dry spell.
Things finally show a little pulse on Saturday, July 11th. The afternoon brings a jump in swell to 3.9ft from the south, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind swings offshore from the WNW at 18.6 mph, which cleans things right up. The combined energy hits 265 (moderate energy), so there’s finally some push. The catch? It's a short-period swell, so it won't have the best shape, but for The Jetty, it'll be the best we see. This is the one standout – a small window of clean, rideable waves.
After that little burst, it goes straight back to the doldrums. From July 12th onward, we’re back to small, weak swell – 1ft to 2.6ft – and messy winds. The combined energy drops back into double digits often, below 100, so the ocean just looks flat and uninviting. A slight flicker of clean conditions with light offshore winds on July 15th morning, but the swell is only 2.6ft with a period of 5 seconds, so it's just a weak, choppy cleanup set. Not worth getting worked up about.
Overall, it’s a lean forecast. The only real chance to get wet without hating life is that Saturday July 11th afternoon. The water temp is running about average for this time of year, so no thermal surprises. Keep the expectations low and maybe bring a longboard if you’re a beginner, because you’ll need every bit of glide for those little 1.3ft days.
