The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for The Jetty over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. The Jetty is a sandbar setup, beginner-friendly and fairly consistent normally, but we're looking at a long, dry spell to kick things off. For the first five days, from Monday the 13th right through to Friday the 17th, the waves are just too small and messy to bother with. We're talking tiny dribbles under 2 ft, short period slop, and wind that's either cross or onshore. It's a write-off.

We finally get a little tickle on Sunday the 19th. The morning brings a clean 3 ft from the SSE with a light offshore breeze, but it's still pretty weak with combined energy only at 61. Not exactly firing. The afternoon gets a bit more interesting – that same 3 ft SSE swell, but now we've got a moderate offshore wind from the WNW cleaning it right up. The energy bumps a little to 54, and conditions are actually surfable. It's a one-pointer, but it's the best we've seen. Still, don't expect much.

Then we hit Monday the 20th, and the swell jumps up. The morning shows 3 ft from the SSE, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy. The energy is a solid 248, which is moderate, but it's wasted on the onshore junk. The afternoon gets even bigger, 5 ft from the NE, but that's a short-period wind swell with a strong onshore wind. For a beginner spot like this, 5 ft is already pushing the limits, and with those conditions, it's a complete mess. This is more of a kite-surfing afternoon than a paddle session.

The rest of that week is a bit of a mixed bag. The 21st and 22nd have some size (4 ft to 5 ft) from the ENE and E, but it's all short period and cross-onshore. The energy is moderate (141 to 191), but the quality is poor. There's a glimmer on Thursday the 23rd afternoon, with a 3 ft ENE swell and a clean cross-offshore wind from the WNW. The energy is 104, so it's just moderate, but it's clean. That's a window to look at.

The following week starts with a real standout on Saturday the 25th. The morning brings a clean 4 ft from the S with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNE. The energy is a solid 155. The period is only 6 seconds, so it's a short-period local wind swell, but the conditions are clean and it's surfable. That's the best morning of the whole outlook. The water temperature is a notable 76°F, which is a hefty 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that's a real treat for the skin.

Sunday the 26th morning is a similar story: 3 ft from the S, clean cross-offshore wind, and decent energy at 94. Not as punchy as Saturday, but still a solid, clean option for a paddle.

The final few days, the 27th and 28th, drop right back down to small, weak, and onshore slop.

So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off until maybe Sunday the 19th afternoon for a small, clean window. The real standout is Saturday the 25th morning – that's the one to circle. Clean, 4 ft, and warm water. Sunday the 26th morning is a good backup. Everything else is a pass.

Stay patient, and don't sleep on that Saturday.

Rusty.
