The Lowdown

Alright, let’s have a look at this stretch. The Jetty is a sandbar setup, fairly exposed to swell, but it’s a beginner-friendly spot. The water is running at 77°F right now, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a solid 4°F above the long-term average, so you’ll feel that difference.

Right now, things are pretty flat and messy. Saturday the 18th is a write-off, with rain showers and a cross-on wind at 12 mph pushing that tiny 2ft to 3ft S swell into a choppy mess – not worth paddling out. Sunday the 19th morning is the first real glimmer: a clear sky, NNW offshore wind at 9 mph, and a clean 3ft S swell with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is weak (68), but it’s surfable and clean. That’s your best chance early on.

Monday the 20th through Tuesday the 21st stay poor, with small swell and cross-on or onshore winds. Wednesday the 22nd morning sees a jump: 5ft SSE swell, 9-second period, and clean conditions with a WSW cross-off breeze at 12 mph. The combined energy jumps to 318 (moderate energy), which is the most interesting pulse in the whole outlook. The swell direction (SSE) is not the optimum SE the spot likes best, but it’s close enough for a sandbar. This is the standout morning – but it’s still only a 1/10 score, and the comment says “marginal” due to tide or something. If you’re keen, Wednesday morning is the one to aim for. After that, the rest of the week and into August fades into small, weak, poorly-timed surf.

The Jetty doesn’t see any real quality again until the 31st of July, when a 4ft S swell with 6-second period shows up, and NNE wind at 19 mph keeps it clean (cross-off). Combined energy is 174 (moderate), but the period is short, so the waves will be lumpy and weak. Not a standout.

From the 1st of August onwards, it’s back to tiny, clean, but unsurfable conditions. The 16-day window is thin for this spot. The best call is Wednesday the 22nd morning, but don’t get your hopes up too high – it’s a marginal window at best. The rest is a long flat spell.

Rusty.
