Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what’s on the table for The Jetty over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the next few days are a tough watch. We’re looking at a pretty flat spell to kick things off. There's nothing worth paddling out for from the start of the period through to around Saturday the 19th of July. The swell is tiny, often below 2 feet, and the wind is mostly cross or onshore, chopping things up. The combined wave energy is weak, barely pushing past 50 (57 on Sunday morning), and the period is short and weak. It's a real bummer for a stretch.
We finally see a pulse of life on Sunday the 19th of July. A new S swell tries to push in, hitting 4 feet in the morning but with a cross-onshore wind from the east at 12 mph. The energy jumps to 135, which is moderate, but the period is still short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit messy and lumpy. It's not the cleanest, but it's the first bit of real height we’ve seen. Conditions deteriorate into the afternoon as the wind swings onshore.
That window is short-lived. After that, we’re back into another lull of poor surf quality with small, weak swells and choppy winds right through to the end of the month. The water temperature and anomaly data aren’t provided here, but for The Jetty, the conditions are just not cooperating.
One thing to keep an eye on, though it’s a long way out: on Monday the 27th of July, the S swell kicks up to 5 feet. The combined energy is a strong 413, but the wind is a cross-onshore east wind at 12 mph, so expect a choppy, cross-onshore surface. That’s a solid amount of juice for those who don’t mind a bit of texture. The period is still only 7 seconds, so it’ll be a steep, close-out wash-cycle at a sandbar. Not a standout for the average surfer.
Overall, there’s no single standout here. The best we can say is that Sunday the 19th offers the first real chance, and the Monday the 27th has the most power, but neither come with the clean winds we’d want. For now, keep the board in the car and the wax in the wrapper.
Rusty.
