The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next sixteen days.
If you’re hoping for a classic surf session, we’ve got a long wait ahead. The first few days are a real struggle. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are pretty much a write-off with tiny, poor surf and messy conditions. The water is a warm 77°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable if you go for a swim, but not a paddle.
The first real hint of something surfable shows up on Saturday afternoon, the 18th, at The Jetty. You’ll see a small 4 ft swell from the S with a short period, but the wind goes glassy, so it’ll be clean. It’s still only a weak little energy pulse (83), and the waves are ordinary at best.
Sunday the 19th morning is a bit better. The swell drops to 3 ft from the S, but we get a light offshore wind from the NNW, making it clean. The energy is still weak (64), but it’s your best bet for a small, fun wave on a longboard.
Then we hit a big gap. From Sunday afternoon all the way through the rest of the week, it’s mostly poor surf with onshore winds and tiny, weak swell. The energy values stay low (between 31 and 154), and the conditions are consistently choppy or lumpy.
Finally, on Wednesday the 22nd, we get a pulse of energy. The Wednesday morning session at The Jetty has a 7 ft swell from the S, with a moderate energy (956). That’s a solid, punchy wave. The wind is a cross-offshore from the W, keeping it clean. This is a standout for the whole period, but 7 ft is getting into the range where it’s for the more experienced crew – beginners might want to sit this one out. The period is short (8 seconds), so it won’t be the most lined-up wave, but it’ll have some push.
The rest of the second week is a bit of a letdown. Most days are back to poor surf, small swell, and windy conditions. You might see a clean morning here and there (like July 28th morning with a light offshore and 1 ft swell), but it’s really just ankle-biters. The energy stays weak (under 100) for most of it.
So, to wrap it up: the one true standout is Wednesday the 22nd morning for a bigger, clean wave at The Jetty. Everything else is a patient waiting game. Don’t expect much, but a forecast can always change.
Rusty.
