Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for The Jetty over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty grim stretch. We’re looking at a solid 16-day run with hardly a single session worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly rubbish, and the whole setup is just flat and frustrating. You’ll be waiting a long time for anything that even makes you grab your board.
The action (if you can call it that) starts from Wednesday the 8th of July. The Jetty is a sandbar break, fairly consistent, but the swell is barely a ripple at 2ft from the east, with a weak 6-second period. The combined wave energy is a pathetic 43 (weak). Add in a cross-on wind from the SSE at 9 mph, and you’ve got poor surf conditions. The water is 77°F, which is a whopping 6°F warmer than normal for this time of year – very unusual, but it won’t make the waves better.
The whole first week is a write-off. Thursday and Friday see tiny, weak swell with cross-onshore or cross-off winds that don’t make up for the lack of size. Saturday morning, the 11th, has a light breeze, but the swell is only 1ft. It’s just not enough.
Moving into the second week, from around the 14th of July, we see a little bump in swell to 3ft on the Sunday morning, but it’s coming from the ENE with a short 5-second period and a cross-on wind at 16 mph. That’s choppy, sloppy mess. The combined energy sits at 53 (weak). Not worth a look.
The best (and I use that word loosely) of a bad bunch might be Wednesday the 15th of July. The morning has a clean cross-off breeze from the WSW at 9 mph, but the swell is only 1ft from the ESE at 8 seconds – that’s short period, weak energy at 51 (weak). It’s clean, but you’d be fighting for a knee-high crumble.
Honestly, after that, it just gets smaller. From the 17th to the 23rd of July, the swell drops to 0.7ft or 0.3ft with combined energy numbers as low as 9 (weak). There’s a glassy moment on the afternoon of the 19th, but the swell is 0.3ft with a 13-second period – that’s a long period groundswell, but there’s no height to work with. It’s just a flat, glassy pond.
There’s nothing here that stands out. No standout surf. No standout breaks. Just a long, flat run for The Jetty. Sometimes it’s like this. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board in the shed.
