Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on offer for The Jetty.
Straight up, I’ve got to be honest with you – it’s a rough stretch ahead. The Jetty is a sandbar setup, fairly exposed to the swell, but the numbers just aren’t there for a proper surf. The water’s sitting at 77°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a bit of a head-scratcher, but it won’t help the waves.
We kick off on Sunday, the 5th of July, with a tiny 1ft of SE swell at 8 seconds, and a stiff SSE wind making it choppy and messy. The combined energy is a weak 18, so there’s just nothing to work with. That runs right through the first week. The next few days are just as flat and poor – Monday morning goes glassy but with a 2ft S swell at a short 5 seconds, and it’s still labelled poor. Tuesday brings a bit more size, up to 4ft out of the ENE on the afternoon, but the wind is cross-off and the period is still short at 6 seconds. The energy hits 105 (moderate), but the ride quality is zero.
The pattern keeps going – small, short-period swells, mostly onshore or cross-shore winds, and the “poor surf conditions” tag sticks to every single slot. Wednesday the 8th, Thursday the 9th, Friday the 10th – all the same story. The biggest swell we see in the whole 16-day window is 4ft on Saturday the 11th of July, with ENE swell at 6 seconds and a cross-shore breeze. The energy climbs to 130, but it’s still considered poor surf. That’s as good as it gets, and it’s not saying much.
The second week is a dead loss. From the 12th onward, the swell drops back under 3ft, with periods as low as 4 seconds. On the 19th and 20th, we finally get some offshore winds from the NW and NNW, but the swell is only 2ft with a 4-5 second period. The energy is in the 20s and 30s, so it’s tiny and weak. The wind might be clean, but there’s no wave to ride.
There is no standout session here. No day worth circling on the calendar. If you’re a beginner, even the 4ft day is too small and poorly shaped to bother with. For anyone else, this is a two-week blank. The Jetty just isn’t firing, and the forecast shows no improvement. Sometimes it’s like this – the sandbar doesn’t always cooperate. Keep an eye on it, because forecasts can change, but right now, I’d hang the board up and do something else.
Rusty.
