Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, crew, Rusty here with the long-range forecast for The Jetty. Let's get real: it's gonna be a tough few weeks for surf.
Looking at the full sixteen days, from now until late July, we're in for a serious drought. There's a massive gap of nearly two weeks with absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. The wave energy readings barely register – we're talking 22, 21 – that's weak, weak stuff. It's a grim outlook.
The first week, from Saturday the 11th all the way through the following week, is a total bust. Swell heights are tiny, barely hitting 1.0ft, and the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, making everything a messy chop. We get some clean mornings on Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th with a light offshore breeze, but with swells at only 0.7ft to 1ft, you're just floating around. Not worth peeling yourself off the couch.
Into the second week, around July 20th and 21st, the swell actually bumps up a touch to 3ft to 5ft from the south-southeast. The energy also climbs (up to 211 on Tuesday afternoon). But the wind turns into a relentless cross-onshore, absolutely ruining any chance of a clean wave. The data says it all: "poor surf conditions". It's a choppy, blown-out mess. On July 23rd and 24th, we finally get a break with light offshore winds and a clean surface. The swell is a more workable 3ft to 4ft from the south, with moderate energy (around 193 to 200). But the period is short, only 6 to 8 seconds. You'll get some rideable but very ordinary waves. Then to close out the month, the swell gets a bit bigger, up to 5ft on the 25th, but it's accompanied by a nasty cross-shore wind that wrecks the shape.
So, the honest truth? There are no standouts in this entire window. Nothing is firing. The only day that even remotely qualifies as a "go" is the morning of Friday, July 24th. A light north wind will be cleaning up a 4ft south swell. It'll be surfable, but it's far from good. The short period means it'll be fat and lackluster. The Jetty can get some crowds, but on a day this ordinary, you'll likely have plenty of room to yourself.
Don't bother rushing. This kind of blank run is just part of the deal here when the swell window goes quiet. Forecasts can always flip, but right now, it's about as dead as it gets.
Rusty.
