The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for The Jetty.
Right, I won’t beat around the bush. The next 16 days are a tough stretch for this spot. The first proper recommendation doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 26th, which means we’ve got a long, quiet gap through Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with nothing worth paddling out for. That’s a solid 6-day wait with only tiny, messy slop and poor conditions. The break is a sandbar and inconsistent, and this kind of blank run is more normal for the area, so don’t lose hope entirely—forecasts can change.
The one and only standalone window is Wednesday the 26th. For the morning session, we’ve got a little bump in energy. Swell is coming from the ESE at 2ft with a period of 6 seconds. That’s short-period windswell, but the wind is glassy—NE at 3 mph, no wind at all. That’s a major positive for a sandy setup like this, giving you clean little waves. The combined energy of all swells directed here is 72 (weak), so don’t expect much push. The water is 78°, which is 4° warmer than usual—that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can skip the thick wetsuit. The Jetty is marked as consistent enough and exposed from the SE, which matches this swell direction. Crowds can be present here sometimes, so be ready for a few others who’ve also been waiting.
Later on Wednesday afternoon, the wind switches onshore and the quality drops, so the morning is your only real play. After that, we’re back into a poor run of small, choppy, or windy conditions right through to the end of the forecast on September 4th, when a bigger ESE swell rolls in. On the 4th, we’re looking at 7ft with an 8-second period and a combined energy of 572 (strong). But the wind is cross-onshore, the water is choppy, and the surf quality is poor. For a beach-and-reef sandbar, that’s more of a kitesurfing setup than a paddle session. Hold out for a change in the pattern.
Stay keen, check back later.
