Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s talk about The Jetty.
To be straight with you, this is a tough two weeks. The ocean is flat and the wind is playing games. The water temp is about 77°F, which is running a fair bit warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only nice thing I can say for a while.
From Wednesday the 8th right through to the weekend, we’ve got nothing. We’re looking at 2ft to 3ft of weak, short-period swell with the wind coming from every bad direction—cross, cross-on, onshore. The wave energy numbers are all below 100, so it’s a dead ocean. Don’t bother.
Things try to change on Sunday the 12th. The swell bumps up to about 3ft to 3ft by the afternoon, and the energy finally touches 101. But the wind is cross-on from the east, so it’s going to be bumpy and messy. On Monday the 13th, we see the size hit 5ft in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon, with the energy jumping to 200. That’s got some weight, but again the wind is from the ENE and east, keeping it choppy and lumpy.
Now, Tuesday morning, July 14th is your best chance. The swell is 5ft from the ESE, period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is 237—that’s moderate, solid power. The wind is light and cross from the SSW at about 6 mph, which will keep the surface tidy. The Jetty is a *fairly consistent* sandbar, and it likes swell from this direction. The crowds can be *sometimes* around, so it won’t be empty. This is the one session to target. By the afternoon, the wind swings harder and makes a mess.
The rest of the week tanks again. Wednesday the 15th through Saturday the 18th sees tiny waves, 2ft to 3ft, with the wind building from the SW up to 18 mph. It’s just not worth the paddle.
In the second week, there’s a little hope on Monday the 20th afternoon. We get 3ft of south swell with a clean cross-off wind. It’s short-period and weak, but it will be clean. Then on Tuesday the 21st afternoon, look out for a moment of glass—dead calm wind and 4ft of south swell. The energy is low at 88, so it won't be punchy, but if you want a clean, soft wave, that’s your spot.
Wednesday the 22nd afternoon has a solid spike in energy to 214, with 4ft of swell from the south, but the wind is cross-on and choppy. The final day, Thursday the 23rd, has clean offshore wind in the morning and a light cross-off in the afternoon, but the swell is tiny at 2ft to 3ft.
The standout: Circle Tuesday morning, July 14th on your calendar. It’s the biggest, most energetic swell we get—5ft from the ESE—with light cross-wind giving you clean conditions. It’s not a classic day, but it’s the best of a flat period. The rest of the time, keep your stick waxed and your expectations low.
Rusty, out.
