The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: the next couple of weeks look pretty bleak around here. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak, and messy surf ahead, so don’t get your hopes up for anything special.

For the first week, from Friday the 7th of August right through to Wednesday the 13th, it’s a real struggle. We’re looking at tiny waves, mostly around 1ft to 3ft, with weak combined swell energy (values from 17 up to 146). The wind is all over the place—mostly cross-shore or cross-onshore—keeping the surface choppy and uninviting. There’s nothing here that’s worth paddling out for.

The second week doesn’t offer much relief. From Thursday the 14th of August onward, the swell stays small, with heights barely cracking 3ft and energy levels mostly below 100. Winds do turn offshore or glassy on a few mornings, like Friday the 14th, Sunday the 16th, Monday the 17th, and Tuesday the 18th, which would make the water clean, but with waves that tiny and short-period (4 to 9 seconds), it’s just not going to be any fun. The combined energy is weak, so there’s no push or power to speak of.

Let’s be honest: there are no standout days here. Not a single recommendation to chase. You’d be better off leaving the board in the car and enjoying a cold one on the beach. That’s the reality for this stretch.

Rusty.
