The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, switching over to the old system for those who think in feet and miles.
Let's be honest: the next couple of weeks at Walton Rocks (Power Plant) are a total bust. We're staring down a long, flat spell.
Starting Sunday, August 23rd, we've got ankle-biters of 0.7ft from the east, and that's the story for days. The combined swell energy is weak, in the 10 range. We get some nice glassy mornings, like Tuesday the 25th with the wind totally dead, but the waves are just not there—"poor surf conditions" all the way. This flatness drags on through the end of August and into early September.
Finally, on Tuesday morning, September 1st, we see a tiny bump to a 1ft easterly swell. The period is 15 seconds, which is a long-period groundswell that would normally mean better shape, but at this height it's barely a ripple. The combined energy creeps up to 69 (still weak), and it's glassy again. The score is a 1 out of 10—"surfable but very ordinary."
The best we can muster is Friday morning, September 4th. We get a clean 3ft easterly swell—the biggest of the whole run—with a 9-second period and light offshore winds from the SW. Combined energy is 98 (still weak), but with offshore wind, it should be clean. This is the only window that's even worth a mention, and it's still just "surfable but very ordinary." For a beginner, that 3ft is fine, but for anyone else, it's a big yawn.
For the rest of the outlook through September 7th, it's more tiny swell, onshore or side winds, and combined energy stuck in the weak category. Given this break is usually very consistent, this flat run is a bit of a surprise, but it won't last forever. Forecasts can change.
So, your only real shot is that Friday the 4th morning with the 3ft and clean offshore wind. That's it.
Rusty.
