Hey crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be honest – it’s a long, slow stretch with very little to get excited about.

Walton Rocks (Power Plant) is a beach and reef setup that’s super consistent, exposed to the northeast. Water temp is about 85°F right now, which is pretty average for this time of year.

We’re starting off with a whole lot of flatness. From Monday morning, July 6th, all the way through Sunday, July 19th, it’s tiny – waves mostly 0.7ft to 2ft, with weak energy readings mostly in the single digits or double digits below 100. Swell direction is all over the place, mostly from the east or southeast, with short periods around 4 to 9 seconds. Winds are mixed, a lot of cross-shore and cross-onshore breezes, with a few glassy mornings here and there but the swell’s just too small to paddle for. The data calls it “poor surf conditions” for every session in that stretch.

Finally, on Monday morning, July 20, we get a little pulse: 4ft from the ESE, with a combined energy reading of 109 (moderate). Period is a short 5 seconds though – just windswell. Winds are offshore from the SSW at 12 mph, keeping it clean. It’s surfable but very ordinary, scoring a 1 out of 10. This is the only session in the whole 16-day window that’s even worth a look. Since the swell’s just under the “too big for beginners” mark, intermediates and above can have a go.

Tuesday morning, July 21, has 3ft from the east, still clean with cross-offshore wind (SSW at 16 mph), but the energy drops to 76 and period stays short at 5 seconds. Then it fades out again.

So here’s the straight talk: there’s a 13-day gap of no real surf, and even the one standout (Monday morning, July 20) is pretty average. For a break that’s usually very consistent, this is a rough spell. If you’re keen, that Monday morning is your only real option – it’ll be clean and rideable, but don’t expect anything special. Honestly, most days here look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

Hang in there, forecasts can change. Rusty.
