The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I'm lookin' at the surf for Walton Rocks (Power Plant).
Alright, I’m gonna keep it real with you—this forecast is a bit of a blank, and I mean *blank*. The 16-day window is basically a write-off for any decent surf. There's not a single session that scores more than a zero, and the swell is tiny, like 0.7ft to 2ft max, with weak energy readings that barely crack 76 (combined energy of all swells directed here). That's weak, mate. The water temp is sittin' at 86°F, which is about average for this time of year, so at least a dip won't be a shock.
We're looking at a long stretch of doldrums from now through to the 5th of September. The swell is mostly out of the east at a short, weak period of 4 to 9 seconds, and the wind is almost always cross-on or cross-shore, which just adds chop to the mix. On the 22nd and 23rd of August, we get some glassy morning conditions with a WSW and SSW breeze, but the swell is still a pathetic 0.7ft. It's clean, but there's nothing to ride. By the 27th and 28th, the swell period stretches out to 13-15 seconds, but that's a long-period groundswell you'd want for a point break, not the beach-and-reef setup here. The energy is still weak (21-47), and the wind is cross-on, so it's a messy, small wave.
The 29th of August afternoon has a tiny uptick to 2ft, but it's cross-shore wind and short period. Honestly, nothing is worth paddling out for. If you're a kite surfer, the setup might be more interesting than a paddle, because the waves just aren't there.
Look, when every day is marked "poor surf conditions," you know it's a tough run. There are a few consistent breaks in the area, so it won't stay poor forever—forecasts can change. But for now, this is a solid blank. I'd keep the board in the van and wait for a better chart.
