The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough watch for the next couple of weeks. We're looking at a real flat spell ahead, so let's break it down.
For the first week or so, from Monday the 13th right through to the end of that week, there's just nothing doing. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple, with heights sitting at a measly 0.7ft to 1ft. The combined wave energy is almost non-existent, barely cracking double digits (10 to 19). It's just not surfable. You'd be better off finding something else to do. We do see a few glassy mornings, like Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th, but with no swell to push through, it's a flat, clean lake. The wind does swing offshore from the SW here and there, but there's nothing for it to groom.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window comes much later, right at the end of the outlook. On Sunday the 26th of July, we start to see a little pulse. The swell picks up to 2ft from the east, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 49. That's still weak, but it's the best we're going to get. The real winner is the morning of Sunday the 26th at Walton Rocks (Power Plant). The wind is a light WSW cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. The break is a beach and reef setup, very consistent, so it'll be catching every bit of that small energy. Keep in mind the water is running about 86°F, which is about normal for this time of year, so it's a warm one.
For the rest of the run-up to that Sunday, it's a long, flat gap. Saturday the 25th offers a glimmer of hope with a clean 2ft and an offshore wind, but the energy is still too weak to get excited about. Tuesday the 28th rolls around with a similar tiny 1ft, clean but weak.
If you're a beginner, any of these small, clean days when the swell is under 2ft could be worth a paddle for some practice, but real waves? Nope. The end of the run on the 26th is the only thing that even gets a nod. It's a long wait for a small reward.
This is Rusty, signing off. Keep your eyes on the horizon, but maybe don't hold your breath.
