The Lowdown
G’day folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Walton Rocks (Power Plant) is a bit of a flat spell. We’re looking at a 16-day window starting from Tuesday, August 18th, and honestly, the surf is barely a whisper. The combined swell energy is sitting in the weak range, mostly between 7 and 39 (weak to moderate at best), so don’t expect any real push. The water temperature is 86°, which is about normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The whole period is a long stretch of tiny, poor surf. From Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday, September 2nd, we’re stuck with waves that are 0.3ft to 2ft – that’s barely a ripple. The swell is coming from the east, with periods bouncing between 4 and 17 seconds, but the height just isn’t there. There’s a morning on Friday, August 21st, with a clean 0.7ft from the east and a light offshore wind from the WSW, but it’s still tiny. Saturday morning, August 22nd, has a similar clean 0.7ft with a SSW offshore, but again, it’s not enough to get excited about. The best on offer is probably the Monday afternoon, August 24th, when the swell bumps up to 2ft from the east (combined energy of 39), but with a cross-shore wind from the SE at 9 mph, it’s still just a gentle cross-chop. For a spot that’s very consistent and exposed to the northeast swell, this is a real dry spell. It’s all poor surf conditions across the board, so keep your expectations low. If you’re a beginner, the tiny stuff might be okay, but for anyone else, it’s a waiting game. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on the afternoons with a bit of breeze.
Rusty.
