The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's shaping up for us over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a bit of a flat spell for the most part. We see a few windows with some ankle-to-knee high swell, but the conditions are often messy. The water is running at 70° currently, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so a spring suit will be plenty.
The first real chance to get a decent wave is Saturday morning, July 18th. The swell picks up to 2ft from the SW with a period of 18 seconds, giving it a moderate energy of 281. The wind is light and cross-offshore, cleaning things up nicely. Expect surfable, long-period groundswell. It’s a bit inconsistent here, so you’ll have to be patient, but the sets that come through could be worth it. The afternoon turns choppy, so get out early.
After that, the swell backs off again. The next glimmer of hope is on Thursday morning, July 23rd, with a 2ft swell from the W, but with a short period of 6 seconds and weak energy of 33. It’s clean with a light cross-off, but it’s going to be weak and crumbly.
Looking further out, the morning of July 25th (Saturday) shows a 2ft SW swell with a very long period of 21 seconds. The energy is moderate at 224, but the wind is cross-onshore, creating ripples. That long period swell will be tricky at this reef break, but it’s something to watch.
The morning of July 28th (Tuesday) has a 2ft SW swell with a 10-second period, clean but weak. Nothing is really screaming "standout" here.
Overall, the pick of the week is the early session on Saturday the 18th. It’s not pumping, but it’s the cleanest and most consistent option we’ve got. For the rest of the run, expect a lot of small, choppy, or weak days. It’s a quiet period, so keep your expectations in check.
Rusty.
