Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rat Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Let's look at what's been cooking at Rat Beach. I gotta be straight with you, the next week and a half or so is pretty grim. We're looking at a long stretch of small, weak surf with hardly any energy behind it. The first real sign of something surfable doesn't pop up until the morning of July 14th, but even then it's just a 1ft swell from the southwest—nothing to write home about. The combined energy is a measly 69 (weak energy), so it's more of a paddle than a surf. The wind is light and cross-offshore though, so it'll be clean as a whistle. But honestly, it's ordinary.
Then we hit a bit of a gap. From the 14th through to the 20th, we see a few more mornings with that same 1ft to 2ft swell from the southwest, with the early sessions on the 16th, 17th, 19th, and 20th offering clean, cross-offshore winds. The energy picks up a bit on the 18th and 19th, hitting 192 to 193 (moderate energy), but the swell is still tiny and the winds are messy on the afternoons. It's not really worth getting excited about.
Now, the standout session is a bit of a slow burn, but it's the afternoon of July 20th. You'll see a 2ft swell from the southwest, but the combined energy jumps to 215 (moderate energy), which is the highest we've seen. The wind is light and cross-offshore, keeping it clean. For a small wave spot, this is the best you're going to get in the whole 16-day window. The next morning, July 21st, is also worth a look with similar energy at 212 and clean conditions.
The rest of the period is pretty flat, with the swell dropping back down to 2ft or less and the energy disappearing. Crowds are "sometimes" an issue at Rat Beach, so even on that small 20th, you might have a few others in the water. It's a reef break, so it'll handle the small southwest swell, but don't expect anything epic. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
So, to wrap it up: the whole 16-day window is a write-off for anything decent. The best on offer is the afternoon of July 20th and the morning of the 21st with that small, clean swell. It's a long wait for just a couple of windows, but that's how it goes sometimes.
Rusty.
