Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hermosa Beach and Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a bit of a slow start. We’ve got a small window of clean surf early on Saturday morning, but after that, things go pretty quiet for a long stretch. The first real bit of action is Saturday morning, the 11th of July, at Hermosa Beach and Pier. The water is a balmy 69°F, which is 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s much warmer than usual, so you’ll be comfortable in a shorty or even just boardshorts.
That Saturday morning, the swell is a tiny 2ft from the SSW, but here’s the kicker – it’s a long-period groundswell coming in at 15 seconds. That’s proper energy for a wave that size, and combined wave energy is moderate at 209. The wind is a light 6 mph from the SSE, which is a clean cross-offshore breeze. That means clean, peeling little lines. It’s a beginner-friendly break, but the crowds are often there, so get in early. This is your best bet of the whole 16-day window.
After that Saturday morning, the wind swings onshore or goes cross-shore with chop, and the swell stays tiny. We’re looking at a long gap with no real recommendations from Saturday afternoon all the way through to the end of the month. The swell never really gets above 3ft, and most of the time the wind is just junk – cross-onshore or onshore, creating choppy, messy conditions. For a spot like this that’s a beach break and fairly exposed, it’s just not going to hold any quality.
We do see a bit of a pulse in combined energy around the 18th of July (Saturday afternoon) hitting 479, and again on the 26th of July (Sunday afternoon) hitting 515, but again, the wind is wrong. It’s a cross-onshore breeze, making it a chop-fest. For a beginner beach break, that’s not worth paddling out for. If you’re into kiting, that afternoon setup might look more interesting than paddle surfing.
Honestly, if you want a wave, you’ve got Saturday morning, 11th of July. That’s the standout. The rest of the run is a write-off for decent surf. It’s a blank run for a solid week and a half, but that’s not unusual for this area in summer – forecasts can always change, but as it stands, it’s pretty grim.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the sky.
Rusty.
