The Lowdown

Alright, listen up. It’s Rusty here, and I gotta tell you, Playa de Sant Sebastia is looking like a lake for the foreseeable future. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it.

We’ve got water temp at a toasty 84°, which is a good 5° warmer than it should be. That’s a real anomaly. But the surf? Nada. Zilch. Nothing.

For the first few days, from the 7th to the 9th, it’s completely flat. Not a wave on the horizon. Glassy in the mornings, but a light cross-shore breeze and zero swell. You’re looking at a good four days of nothing before we see any sign of life.

Come Monday the 10th, we get a whisper of swell. A tiny 2ft wave from the SSE, but with a short, weak 5-second period. The energy is a measly 16, so it’s just not enough to push anything through. The wind is cross-onshore, so it’s a bit of a mess.

The next few days, the 11th and 12th, are more of the same. Waist-high at best, with an onshore breeze chopping it up. There’s a glassy window on the morning of the 12th, but the swell is barely there. It’s not worth the paddle.

Then it just dies. From the 13th to the 20th, we’re looking at empty ocean. Seriously, a long stretch of nothing. A few clean mornings, but no swell to speak of. It’s a full-on dry spell.

Finally, around the 21st, there’s a little pulse of energy. A small 2ft swell from the ENE, and the period gets a bit better, up to 8 seconds. The energy jumps to 56, which is still weak, but at least it’s something. It’s still very marginal surf, but it’s the best we’ll see.

By the 22nd, it’s fading back out again. There’s just nothing solid in the long-range. This is a classic flat spell for this spot. Sometimes that's just how it goes. Forecasts can change, but don’t hold your breath.

Honestly, if you’ve got a kite, this might be more your scene for a while. For now, keep the surfboard in the rafters.

Rusty.
