The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Mallorca - Cala Ratjada over the next couple of weeks. Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with ya – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The water is a balmy 83°, which is a solid 5° warmer than usual for this time of year, so you’re basically swimming in a bathtub, but the waves just aren't showing up.

The entire 16-day window is a write-off for any decent surf. There’s just no energy to work with. The combined swell energy barely scratches double digits throughout, peaking at a pathetic 9 (weak energy) on the 3rd of August afternoon. We’re looking at a long, flat spell right from the get-go. The first week from Wednesday the 29th of July right through to Tuesday the 5th of August offers nothing but tiny, weak pulses. You’ll get a morning of glass here or there, like on the 30th of July and the 4th of August, but with swell heights under 1 ft, it’s not even worth paddling out for a log.

Into the second week, from the 6th of August onward, it gets even quieter with days showing zero swell energy. There are a couple of clean mornings with cross-offshore winds on the 9th of August, but again, the swell is just non-existent. This spot is known for being inconsistent, and this forecast is a perfect example of that. It’s a blank run, plain and simple. For a beach and reef setup like this, with winds occasionally whipping up a cross-chop and virtually no surf, honestly, this looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.

Hang in there, but don’t expect to get wet for a while.
