Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s cut to the chase – we’re in a real dry spell right now. Looking at the full 16 days ahead, there isn’t a single session worth paddling out for. We’ve got a big gap of no recommendations from the start, stretching through the whole outlook.
North Pier (Narragansett) is the only break we’ve got to talk about, and it’s a sheltered little spot. The water’s sitting at a very warm 72°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 4° above average. Nice for a soak, but no good for riding.
The first week is a total bust. Small, weak lumps with rubbish wind. Monday morning kicks off with a weak 2 ft swell from the SE, but it’s got only 4 seconds of period and rain with an onshore breeze. The combined energy is a pathetic 13 – absolutely nothing. It doesn’t get any better. Through Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday the swell stays under 4 ft, with cross-onshore winds and poor, choppy conditions. Even when we get a clean offshore breeze on Friday morning the 10th, the swell drops to just 0.3 ft. You’d get more movement out of a garden hose.
Into the second week, it’s more of the same. From the 11th of July onwards, the swell barely twitches. One late tease on the morning of Thursday the 16th of July gives us a clean 2 ft from the S with a gentle offshore wind from the W and a combined energy of 52. Sounds almost okay for a second, but the period is only 7 seconds, so it’s weak and crumbly. And right at the end of the window, on the 19th of July, the morning is glassy with a 2 ft S swell – but again, the period is short and the energy is low at 43. It’s clean, but there’s just no push behind it.
Honestly, this is a dead run. No standouts, no secret gems. A few mornings in the mid-month look clean, but there’s not enough water moving to make it worth your while. For the next couple of weeks, leave the stick in the rack. Forecasts can always flip, but right now, this stretch is a holiday for the ocean, not a surf session.
Keep watching the charts. Rusty.
