Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Pier (Narragansett) over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and listen up. Rusty here. It’s a grim picture for the next couple of weeks at North Pier. Honestly, if you’re looking for decent surf, you’re looking in the wrong place right now. We’ve got a solid 16-day window to look at, and frankly, the first ten days are a write-off. The combined swell energy is barely registering, often in the single digits – that's about as weak as it gets. It's flat as a tack.
For the first week, from July 10th through to the 18th, we’re staring at tiny, useless waves with swell heights barely pushing 0.3 ft. Periods are short, mostly under 10 seconds. You’d be better off taking up golf. There’s a brief moment on the 17th where we get some glassy conditions and a little bump of 2 ft from the south, but with a 7-second period, it’s just not going to have any push. The water temp is 69°, which is pretty average for this time of year, so no excuses there.
Then, from the 19th to the 21st, we see a slight nudge, with swell getting up to 3 ft, but the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and lumpy. The energy stays low, barely cracking triple digits. The 21st brings moderate rain and 18-22 mph winds, so it’s messy.
Now, for the second week, things get a *little* more interesting. There's a build from the 22nd of July onwards. On the 24th, the swell starts to show some life. Friday morning the 24th has a 4 ft south swell with a combined energy of 219, which is moderate, but it's coming straight onshore. By Friday afternoon, that same swell jumps to 6 ft with a 696 energy reading – which is a solid, strong surge of energy. But here’s the catch: it’s a short period 8-second swell from the south, and we’ll have a cross-onshore wind. For a spot like this, that’s going to mean messy, blown-out conditions. This is top-end beginner-to-intermediate size (6 ft), and certainly not clean.
To be honest, with that onshore wind and a beach break setup, the whole second half of the forecast looks more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers. For us, there is simply no standout window. The best of a bad bunch might be the morning of the 25th of July. It’s smaller, 4 ft, but the wind is a little lighter from the SSE. It won't be great.
Right now, I’d say don't hold your breath. The forecasts can change, but this run of poor conditions looks pretty locked in for now. I'm not giving you any standouts today because there aren’t any.
Stay salty,
Rusty
