Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Pier (Narragansett) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s have a proper look at what’s on offer. I’ll be straight with you – this outlook for North Pier (Narragansett) is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window, and it’s a long, dry stretch before any real swell shows up. The first recommendation doesn’t kick in until late July, so from the start there’s a big gap of days with nothing worthwhile to paddle into.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing wild to report there.
Alright, the first real chance we get is on the 21st of July, Tuesday afternoon. That’s over a week away. The swell comes up to 7ft from the SSE, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s a fair bit of push – combined energy is 496 (moderate-to-strong). But look, it’s a cross-onshore wind, a gentle breeze from the SE, so it’s going to be choppy. For a sheltered spot like North Pier, that’s not great. The size is pushing into expert territory, and the conditions are messy. This one’s more for the experienced crew who don’t mind a challenge.
The next few days are a mixed bag. Wednesday the 22nd sees a drop to 3ft from the S, period 8 seconds, energy 232. Still cross-onshore, still choppy. Thursday the 23rd is a write-off with strong onshore winds – not for surfing. Friday the 24th picks up a bit to 4ft from the S, period bumping to 9 seconds, energy 186-190. The wind eases to a light cross-onshore, which is a touch better, but it’s still not clean.
Now, the standout if we’re being honest is the 25th of July, Saturday. Swell builds to 5ft from the S, period 9 seconds, and the combined energy hits 361 (moderate). The wind is a light breeze from the NE – cross-onshore, but very light. That means small wind ripples, not full-on chop. For a break that’s fairly consistent, this is your best bet in the whole window. It’s a solid head-high wave, but not too big for most intermediates. The swell direction is from the S, which is not the optimum E that North Pier likes, but it’ll wrap in okay. Crowds are listed as “sometimes,” so you might find a few others out, but it won’t be a circus.
The 26th of July, Sunday, is still rideable at 4ft, but the wind goes cross-shore and the energy drops. It’s a step down.
So, to sum it up: there’s a long, flat spell until the third week. The best surf is on Saturday the 25th of July. It’s not perfect, but it’s the cleanest and most consistent of a very average run. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
