Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Pier (Narragansett) over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about North Pier. Honestly, for the next two weeks, it’s a real tough stretch. We’re looking at a long, quiet run with tiny surf and barely anything to get excited about.
The water is sitting at 21° right now, which feels a touch warmer than normal for July, so at least a dip won’t sting.
The first week and a half is basically a write-off. From Thursday the 9th all the way through to Monday the 20th, we’re stuck with ankle-snappers mostly under 1 ft. The swell energy is pathetic, barely cracking double digits (12 is the best you’ll see early on). There’s a bit of a cross-off breeze on Thursday and Friday, keeping things clean, but with hardly any push, it’s just a flat, glassy lake. Saturday morning the 11th bumps up to a tiny 2 ft from the south, but with an onshore wind, it’s a mess. A few days later, on the 18th, we get a clean offshore wind from the west, but again, the swell is a measly 0.3 ft. You’d be better off skipping work.
The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 21st. We get a jump to 3 ft to 3 ft from the southeast, but with a short, weak period of 5 seconds. The combined energy moves into the moderate range (57 on Tuesday afternoon), so there’s finally some push. The wind is a clean cross-off from the SSW, so the surface will be smooth. It’s small, but it’s the first rideable window.
The standout, and I mean the only one worth pointing to, is Wednesday the 22nd. By morning, the swell hits 4 ft from the south, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 195—that’s solid, moderate energy. The wind stays cross-off from the SSW. It’s still not huge, but for North Pier, that’s the best muscle we’ll see in the whole 16 days. This is the one for the die-hards who don’t mind a smaller, clean wave. The crowds are “sometimes” an issue here, so you might have some company.
Thursday the 23rd keeps a bit of size (3 ft) but the period drops back to 7 seconds, and the energy falls to 131. It’s surfable, but a step down from Wednesday. After that, it fades fast into the weekend.
So, bottom line: if you’re jonesing, your best bet is Wednesday the 22nd. The rest of the time, you’re wrestling with a dribble. It’s a quiet stretch, but things can change—forecasts always can.
Rusty.
