Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Pier (Narragansett) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Narragansett. Honestly, we’ve got a long flat spell ahead, so don’t be in a rush. The next 16 days start with a whole lot of nothing, and it’s not until Sunday the 26th of July that we finally see something worth rigging up for.
The pattern is a long, dry stretch of tiny, useless waves. From today through to Saturday the 25th, the swell is barely a ripple, mostly under 2ft, with short 6-8 second periods. The wind is clean across many of those days, but there’s just no energy behind it. The combined swell energy is in the single digits or low teens for most of that first week — that’s basically a lake. It’s a cruel summer tease. The one faint glimmer is on the 19th and 20th, where the energy creeps up to 35-54 (moderate energy), but the swell is tiny and the wind is messy. Not worth a paddle.
The real story kicks off on Sunday the 26th of July. Finally, a pulse of swell. The morning of the 26th has a solid 5ft of S swell, with a 9-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 422 (strong wave energy). That’s the standout of the whole forecast. The wind is a 15 mph cross-offshore from the SW, which will keep it clean. Keep in mind, this is a sheltered spot, so it takes a bit of a push to get in here. This is a decent size for the area, get on it if you’re intermediate and up. The water is about average for the time of year (69°), so a spring suit or shorty is fine.
The morning of Monday the 27th of July offers a smaller, but glassy window. The swell drops to 3ft, S, with an 8-second period, and the energy is 108 (moderate). The wind is glassy — dead calm — so it’ll be smooth as silk. It’s a nice option for a quieter session, but the 26th has the real punch.
For the featured break, North Pier (Narragansett) is a fairly consistent spot, but it’s sheltered, so it needs a decent S swell to light up. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so expect a few locals out if the surf is good. The optimum swell direction is from the E, but we’re seeing S swells, so it’s a little off-angle, but it’ll still wrap in.
Don’t get excited about the middle of the month. The gap from now until the 26th is a long, flat run. That’s pretty normal for summer here. It’s a waiting game, but the 26th looks worth the wait.
