Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about the surf outlook for North Pier in Narragansett.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: the next week and a half is a tough stretch. We’ve got a long, drawn-out period of flat, weak, and mostly messy conditions. The wave energy is pitiful, with values barely cracking double digits for the first several days. The swell is tiny at 0.3ft, and the wind is all over the place, often onshore or cross-shore, ruining whatever dribble of a wave there is. It’s a real bust for anyone wanting to paddle out.
As we get into the middle of next week, around Tuesday the 14th, there’s a slight pulse. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the South, with the combined energy climbing into the low hundreds. The wind is still not perfect, but it’s not completely blowing it out. It’s still not worth the drive, though.
Things finally show a glimmer of hope on Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th. By Wednesday morning, we see a 4ft south swell with light offshore wind and clean conditions. The energy hits 187. It’s surfable, but the conditions are described as very ordinary. Thursday morning is the standout of the whole outlook. A 5ft south swell with clean, gentle offshore wind from the West. The energy hits 359, which is strong. The period is 9 seconds, so it’s not a long-period groundswell, but it’ll have some push. The water temperature is 69°, which is about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
For this spot, that Thursday the 16th morning is the best on offer, but it’s not a day that’ll blow your mind. The 5ft mark means it might be a little much for absolute beginners, but the offshore wind will make it clean. After that, it fades fast, dropping back to flatness by the following Saturday.
So, in short: a long dry spell, one decent morning, then back to nothing. It’s a rough run, but sometimes it’s like that.
Rusty.
