Table - best surf conditions forecast for New Jetty over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at New Jetty over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, there’s a long dry spell. From Sunday the 13th of July right through to early Thursday the 24th of July, the surf is mostly junk — small, onshore, cross-onshore — barely worth a look. That’s almost two weeks of “poor surf conditions” or just “marginal.” The break is a beach and jetty setup, and while it’s exposed to a westerly optimum, the swells are coming from the SSW or SW, which doesn’t match up. Winds are often from the wrong direction.
But then there’s Thursday the 24th of July morning. That’s the one to lock in. Some clouds overhead, a glassy SE wind so light it’s barely a breath, and while the swell is small at 2ft from the SSW, the period is a whoppin’ 24 seconds. That’s long-period groundswell, with wave energy of 500 — you’ll feel that surge. Glassy conditions plus that long period means clean, lined-up waves. Just a heads-up: that long period can make beach breaks a bit straight, but New Jetty’s jetty might give you a better angle. It’s “fairly consistent” there, and crowds are “sometimes,” so you might have a few mates out. It’s in the second week, so treat it as a promising lead — but that morning looks like the real deal.
The only other moments worth mentioning are Sunday the 12th of July morning: 2.3ft from the SSW at 14 seconds, light SW wind (3 mph) — tiny but clean. And Thursday the 23rd of July morning is glassy again, but the waves are only 2ft and 14 seconds — rideable but nothing special. Thursday the 24th morning is the standout.
Water temp is normal for the time of year. That 2ft swell is perfect for beginners — it’s well under 5ft. For anyone else, it’s small but the long period makes it more interesting than it sounds. The bigger pulse on Saturday the 18th of July afternoon (3.6ft from the south, 14 seconds, strong energy) is ruined by onshore winds at 12 mph — skip it.
So basically, the first week is a bust, then you get a glassy little window on the 23rd and a proper highlight on the 24th. After that, more cross-on wind and small stuff. Not much to get too emotional about, except that one morning.
Keep the board waxed and watch that Thursday 24th forecast.
