Table - best surf conditions forecast for New Jetty/South Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for our local stretch.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch ahead. We're looking at a long, dry spell with very little to get excited about. For the first week and a half, from Wednesday the 8th of July right through to the 17th, it's pretty much a write-off. The swell is tiny, mostly hanging around 1 ft to 2 ft, and the wind is nearly always onshore or cross-onshore, messing up any chance of a clean wave. The combined wave energy is weak, barely cracking triple digits most days, and the forecast is constantly calling it "poor surf conditions." That's a long gap of over a week with nothing worth paddling out for.
The only glimmer in that first stretch comes right at the end of it. On Friday the 17th of July, the afternoon shows a shift. We get a clean little window with a light offshore breeze from the ENE at 3 mph. The swell is still small at 2 ft from the west, but that offshore wind will make it glassy and tidy. The combined energy is still weak at 152, but it's the only moment in that whole period where the conditions are described as "surfable" and "clean." It's not a standout by any means, just the only option if you're desperate.
Then, we get a bit of a pulse later on. On Sunday the 19th of July, the swell picks up to 3 ft from the south, with a long period of 17 seconds and a combined energy that jumps right up to 845 – that's moderate to strong energy. The morning has a light cross-onshore breeze, so it's not perfect. It's described as "marginal," but it's the biggest energy we see in the whole 16 days. The south swell direction is a good match for the break's optimum from the WSW, so it'll wrap in. By the afternoon, the wind picks up to 12 mph, making it choppy and messy.
So, what's the best on offer? Honestly, there isn't a true standout. If I had to point you to something, it's that Sunday the 19th of July morning at New Jetty/South Jetty. The 3 ft south swell with that long-period energy will have a bit of push, but it's a beach break, so those long-period swells can be a bit straight and fat. Don't expect perfection. For the guys who are keen and patient, that's your window. The water temperature is sitting at 65°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
It's a quiet period, folks. Keep your eyes on the forecasts, because these things can change, but for now, don't sell the farm for a session.
