Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at New Jetty/South Jetty over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, the outlook for the next two weeks is a tough one. We’re looking at a long dry spell with barely a wave worth paddling for. For the first full week, from Monday the 6th through Saturday the 18th of July, the surf is basically flat to tiny. We’re talking nothing but 1 ft to 2 ft slop, mostly from the SSW, with onshore or cross-onshore winds blowing at 9 mph most days. The wave energy is moderate, sitting between 204 and 410, but it’s all just messy, poor surf conditions. There’s no power, no shape, no reason to get wet.
The water temp is running about 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when there’s no swell.
Now, there’s a tiny glimmer on Monday the 13th of July in the morning. We get a glassy window – wind drops to 3 mph from the WSW and it’s dead calm. The swell is still tiny at 2 ft from the SSW with a very long 13-second period, and the energy is weak at 119. The guide calls it “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” That’s about the best we get, and it’s not saying much. It’d be a log session, maybe, if you’re desperate.
Then things go completely flat again until Sunday the 19th of July. That morning and afternoon, we finally see a pulse: 3 ft from the SSE, 14-15 second period, and the energy jumps to 493-500. Winds are light from the SW at 6 mph, blowing offshore. This is the best on offer across the whole 16 days. Still, the guide rates it as “marginal” – tide dependent and questionable. It won’t be epic, but it’s the only real swell window in the entire run. For a beginner spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a long, blank stretch. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s pretty bleak.
Stay patient, stay dry.
