Alright, straight up: this is a tough one. We’re looking at a solid 16-day window, but there’s not a single day that’s truly firing for a proper paddle session. The wind is hammering out of the north and north-northeast, and it’s relentless. It’s a cross-off wind, which is usually your friend, but not when it’s a fresh to strong breeze blowing 18 to 25 mph. It’s creating a clean wave face, but the swell is so short-period and weak that it’s just not stacking up. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there, but you’ll want a wetsuit for the wind chill.

The first real blip of something that looks like a wave comes in on Friday, August 7th, with a little 5ft to 5ft pulse from the NE, but it’s all short-period, 7-8 seconds, and the energy is weak (248-277). The score is a flat zero. This pattern hangs around for over a week. The combined energy of the swell is in the weak zone, with values like 124 on Tuesday the 12th, and barely climbing. It’s just not enough to get excited about.

The only break on the radar is Los Charcos (Costa-Teguise). It’s a beach and reef setup, which can be fun, but it’s inconsistent and when it’s like this, it’s just a messy, weak shorebreak. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might have company, but honestly, with this quality, it’ll be empty.

There’s a slight uptick around the 16th and 17th of August, with the swell pushing 5ft to 6ft and the energy finally tickling into the moderate zone (341 on the 17th). But the wind is still howling. The period is still short, 7-8 seconds, so it’s a messy wind swell. The score stays at zero for “poor surf conditions.”

The absolute best we get is on Friday, August 21st, when the wind drops to a moderate breeze of 12 mph. The swell is smaller, 4ft, but the period stretches to 9 seconds, and the energy is 202. The forecast says “marginal surf forecast,” and it’s the only day to get a score of 1 out of 10. That’s your best bet. Seriously. It’s still not great, but it’s the least bad day of the whole run.

So, honestly, leave the boards at home. If you’re desperate for a fix, the morning of Friday, August 21st, is your only hope, and even then, keep your expectations on the floor. This setup with the strong wind and weak, short-period swell looks way more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. It’s a blank run, and for this area, it’s not that unusual.
