The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Fall Bay Reef over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a grim stretch. The whole 16-day window is a write-off. There isn't a single day where the conditions stack up for a decent paddle. We're looking at a solid run of flat, weak, and messy surf. The forecast shows that from now until the end of the period on the 3rd of August, every session is rated as poor surf conditions. That's a long, blank run, and it's a bit more normal for this spot given how inconsistent it can be here.
The first few days, from the 19th to the 25th of July, are just tiny. We're talking ankle-snappers at best, with swell heights barely reaching 0.7ft to 1ft, and the combined energy is pathetic – often down in the single digits (6 to 18). The periods are short and weak, mostly under 11 seconds, so there's no grunt behind them. Even when the wind goes clean, like on the 22nd with a moderate offshore breeze from the N, or a glassy morning on the 24th, there's simply no swell to ride.
There's a tiny pulse of energy around the 26th and 27th of July. The swell bumps up to about 3ft to 4ft from the W and WSW, with the combined energy hitting a moderate 113 on the 26th afternoon. But the period is a short, weak 6 seconds, so it's going to be a bumpy, crumbly mess. The wind is mostly cross or cross-off, so it'll be clean-ish, but the quality is just poor. It's the kind of setup that might look more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, especially with the moderate cross-shore chop.
The rest of the run into August is more of the same – small, weak, and onshore. The wind swings cross-on from the SSW and then WSW, with speeds up to 22 mph, making it lumpy and choppy. The swell stays under 3ft, and the energy is low. Honestly, there's nothing to get excited about.
So, my advice? Save the petrol and the energy. The forecast is reliable for the near term, and it's consistently poor. It tends not to stay this bad for long, but this time it looks like it will. Keep the board in the bag and wait for the next system to roll through.
Rusty.
