Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll level with you – this forecast for Fall Bay Reef is a pretty bleak stretch. We’re looking at a full 16-day window, but honestly, there’s not a single session I’d recommend paddling out for. The whole period is a write-off for surf.
The first few days start with a total dud. Saturday afternoon, July 4th, has a tiny 2ft swell from the west, but it’s a cross-shore mess with a 16 mph wind, and the combined energy is weak (179). The water temperature is a very unusual 66°F – that’s a massive 7°F warmer than normal for this time of year, which is wild. The conditions are just poor.
We go through the entire first week, and into the second week, with nothing but tiny, weak swells – mostly under 2ft. The wind is almost always cross or cross-shore, ruining any chance of a clean wave. The energy readings are all in the double digits, which is about as weak as it gets. There’s a brief moment on Sunday, July 12th, when the wind goes glassy, but the swell is a pathetic 0.3ft. That’s not a surf, that’s a lake.
Then we get into the second week and it doesn’t improve. By Saturday, July 18th, we’ve got onshore winds and almost no energy (6). The very last day, Sunday the 19th, shows a slight bump to 4ft, but it’s a short-period, 4-second wind swell from the ESE, with a cross-onshore wind. It’s still marked as poor surf conditions. The combined energy is a weak 48.
For a reef break that’s already inconsistent, this is a blank run. There’s no standout, no silver lining. The spot is fairly exposed to the swell, but the direction and strength just aren’t lining up. This stretch is a total bust. Honestly, if the wind stays this strong and the swell this small, it might be more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
Rusty.
