Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again, swapping out the metric for you.
Look, I gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks for Fall Bay Reef are a tough pill to swallow. We’re looking at a long, drawn-out stretch of minimal to no surf, and what does show up is pretty underwhelming. There’s no standout swell on the horizon, and the conditions are a mixed bag. You’ll find a few fleeting moments of clean, glassy conditions, but the waves just aren't there to back it up. Expect a big gap in any sort of worthwhile surf for most of this period.
Starting off Tuesday the 7th, it's small with a weak 1 ft WSW swell and a combined energy of just (37). Light cross-off wind keeps things clean on the surface, but there’s no power. Wednesday the 8th is even smaller, only 1 ft. Thursday the 9th offers a moment of near-perfect conditions with flat calm, glassy water and a 1 ft W swell, but combined energy is a paltry (16). You could probably find a tiny ankle-biter if you’re desperate.
Friday the 10th is the most interesting of the first week, with a 2 ft W swell and combined energy of (41). The wind goes offshore from the NNE in the afternoon, cleaning it up nicely. If you’re a log or a longboarder, that could be your window, but it’s still weak.
After that, it’s a desert. Saturday the 11th through to Sunday the 19th is all tiny, weak swell, mostly under 2 ft, with combined energy often dropping below (30). There’s a morning on the 18th with glassy conditions and a 2 ft SW swell, but again, the energy is just not there (24). A lot of the wind is cross or cross-on, which won’t help the weak waves.
Even the long-range models aren’t offering hope. Up to the 22nd of July, we’re still looking at 1 ft dribble. Combined energy stays in the single digits to low 20s. For a reef that needs a solid push from the SW, this is a flat spell.
Honestly, unless you’re a beginner who just wants to sit in the water and feel the ocean, leave the board at home. The setup looks far more interesting for a kite than a paddle over this whole period. Forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a long wait.
Rusty.
