Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a bit of a flat spell for this part of the world. We’ve got one spot, Fall Bay Reef, and it’s a tricky one. It’s inconsistent, which is normal for a reef setup like this, so you’ve got to pick your moments.
Right now, the water is sitting at 66°F, which is *much* warmer than usual for this time of year – a solid 4° anomaly. That’s very unusual, so you might want to leave the winter steamer at home.
The outlook starts quiet. Monday 6 July morning has tiny 2ft swell from the west with a short, weak 5-second period, and a cross-onshore wind making things choppy. The combined energy is weak at (37). It’s not worth paddling out. That same small, weak pattern runs right through until the end of the week.
We finally see a little pulse on Wednesday 8 July morning. The swell is still only 1ft from the west, but the wind goes glassy – dead calm – and it’s clean as a whistle. The energy is very weak (12), but if you’ve got a log and want to feel the motion, that’s the most peaceful session you’ll get. Thursday 9 July morning is also glassy with a 1ft, 10-second west swell (16 energy).
There’s a gap of very small, clean conditions through to the end of the second week, but nothing that’s going to get you excited.
The only spot that even hints at being worthwhile is Fall Bay Reef on 21 July (Tuesday). We get a jump in size to 4ft from the west-northwest, with a period of 6 seconds. It’s not a long-period groundswell, so it won’t have great shape, but the energy finally bumps into the moderate zone at (145) on Tuesday morning and (126) on Tuesday afternoon. The wind goes offshore on Tuesday afternoon – clean and moderate. This is the standout, but it’s the *only* one. Crowds are likely here if it shows, and since it’s an inconsistent reef, you might actually have it to yourself if you time the tide right. Still, with that short period and only moderate energy, don’t expect perfection.
Honestly, it’s a lean run. For the rest of the window, you’re looking at knee-high dribble. Keep an eye on the forecasts for that late blast, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
