Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fall Bay Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer at Fall Bay Reef.
Mate, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – this 16-day stretch is a real heartbreaker. We’ve got a massive blank run of flat, junk surf for nearly two weeks. From now through to around the 24th of July, there is absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the periods are all over the place, and the scores are just zero across the board. It’s a long, dry spell.
The only glimmer of hope, and it’s a long way off, is around the 26th of July. We finally see some proper energy arrive. That Sunday morning kicks up to a 7ft swell from the WSW, with a combined energy of 488 – that’s a solid, moderate pulse. The period is 8 seconds though, so it’s a short-period wind swell, not a clean groundswell. By the afternoon, the energy jumps to 652, still from the WSW, with 6ft of swell. This is the standout window, but it comes with a major caveat. The wind is a fresh cross-onshore, making conditions lumpy and messy. For a reef break like Fall Bay, which is inconsistent at the best of times, that’s a tough ask. This is really only for experienced surfers who know the break, and even then, it’ll be a battle. The 27th of July offers a drop to 4ft with a gentle breeze, but it’s still cross-onshore and fairly choppy.
So, the brutal truth is there’s no clean, surfable window to get excited about. The 26th is the only day with any real size, but it’s going to be a messy, expert-only affair. If you’re desperate, it’s there, but don’t expect any magic. For the rest of us, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
