Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking.
Straight up, this is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window, and honestly, there’s nothing to get excited about out there. The whole period is a flat spell with hardly any energy. The only break on the menu is Fall Bay Reef, an inconsistent reef setup that’s exposed to the swell, but it’s just not getting anything to work with.
For the first few days, the water is sitting at a very unusual 68 °F, which is 9 °F warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a real standout in a bad way for the surf.
The first week, from July 8th through the 14th, the swell is tiny. We’re talking wave heights of 0.3 ft to 3 ft, with the combined wave energy barely cracking 50 (like 23 on the 8th, 51 on the 13th). The wind is mostly clean or cross-off, but it doesn’t matter when there’s no wave. A 3 ft swell on the 13th morning with a period of only 4 seconds is just a weak, choppy mess. It’s not surfable.
Then we hit a big gap. From July 15th all the way through to July 23rd, the swell drops even lower. Heights are mostly 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft, and the energy values are in the single digits or low teens. There’s a 1.0 ft push on the 18th morning, but with a period of just 3 seconds, it’s a complete dud. The wind stays mostly clean, but it’s polish on a turd. The best you could say is the 0.7 ft on the 17th afternoon is clean, but it’s still flat.
There is no standout session. Nothing comes close to being worth a paddle. The break is inconsistent, and this forecast backs that up. For a reef in this setup, a blank run like this is pretty normal. It’s a waiting game. Forecasts can change, but right now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
