Alright, Rusty here again, and I’ll tell you right now – this forecast for Fall Bay Reef is a rough one. Over this 16-day window, there’s hardly any surf worth paddling out for. Every single record comes back with a big fat zero on quality, so there’s no standout session to get excited about.

The water temp is sitting at about 67°, which is a good 8° warmer than what’s normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual, so it’ll feel like bath water if you go in. The swell energy is weak the whole time – combined energy values are mostly in the teens and twenties, with the highest barely scraping the 80s. That’s feeble.

From Thursday 9 July, we’ve got tiny 1-foot swell from the west with a short 10-second period. Barely a ripple. Friday 10 July is 2-foot at 9 seconds – still tiny. A bit cleaner wind Friday afternoon, but the surf quality doesn’t budge. Saturday 11 July drops back to 1-foot, and we stay in that ankle-biter range through the weekend. Sunday 12 July brings a longer 16-second period swell, but it’s only 0.3-foot, so just long-period flatness.

The following week is no better. Monday 13 July pushes up to 4-foot from the east, but the period is a shocker at 4 seconds – super short windswell junk. There’s a glassy moment Monday afternoon with 3-foot, but it’s still poor quality. Tuesday 14 July has another 4-foot east swell with 5-second period, and the rest of the week dribbles along with 2-foot to 3-foot, all that same short-period weak energy. The combined energy never breaks 100, so we’re deep in the weak zone. By the second week, say Monday 20 July onward, we’re looking at 1-foot to 3-foot swells – still nothing. A little uptick on Tuesday 21 July with 3-foot from the west-southwest and a 6-second period, but energy is still in the 50s. It’s clean at times with offshore or cross-off winds, but there’s no wave to work with.

Honestly, the best you’ll get is a clean, glassy morning on 19 July, but with 0.7-foot and only 6 units of combined energy, you’re floating, not surfing. This is one of those stretches where the area just goes dead. It doesn’t stay poor for long usually, and forecasts can change, but right now it’s a blank run. Keep the board in the car and wait for a proper swell.

Rusty.
