The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's happening at Fall Bay Reef for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it’s a pretty bleak picture. There’s a long stretch of tiny, poor conditions ahead. The water’s feeling like a warm bath at about 69°, which is way warmer than usual for this time of year – over 8° above the norm.
The first time we see any real size is Sunday, August 30th. The morning shows a 5ft swell out of the WSW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate, around 538. But the wind is onshore from the SSW, and the report calls it “marginal.” It’s not going to be a clean session. The afternoon holds similar 5ft surf, but it’s choppy with a cross-onshore breeze.
Monday, August 31st, bumps up a touch more – 6ft from the WSW, and the energy jumps to 782. That’s a lot of power, but once again, the cross-onshore wind is going to mess up the face. That size is pushing into expert territory, but the chop will make it a battle.
Tuesday, September 1st, has a risk of thunderstorms in the morning with 6ft from the west. The wind is light and cross-onshore, so it’s not all bad. The afternoon looks a bit cleaner with a cross-shore breeze, but the swell drops to 5ft.
From Wednesday, September 2nd, onward, it all fizzles out. We’re looking at tiny waves under 3ft, with energy readings falling into the double digits. The wind does turn light or offshore sometimes, but there’s just no swell to work with.
There’s a big gap of flat to poor conditions through the first week of September. The only real window of opportunity is that Sunday the 30th of August, and even that is marginal. This spot is inconsistent, and this forecast proves it.
So, Sunday the 30th is your best bet if you need a paddle, but don’t expect any gems. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game. Things can change, but for now, it’s pretty quiet.
Rusty.
