The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real here. The Boiler is a reef set-up that’s inconsistent at the best of times, and looking at this 16-day window, it’s pretty much a flat spell. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing before things even start to think about waking up.
From the 13th of July right through to the 24th, the swell is tiny – we’re talking 0.3ft to 1.0ft max. The energy is weak, mostly single-digit to low double-digit readings (8 to 29), so there’s no push at all. The wind is a bit of a mixed bag, but with no real swell, it doesn’t matter. The Boiler is just not breaking.
The water temperature is 69°, which is 9° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a massive anomaly. It’s weirdly warm, like bathwater.
The first hint of something happening arrives on the 25th of July – Saturday morning. The swell bumps up to 1ft, but the wind is honking from the WSW at 35 km/h (a fresh breeze) with moderate rain. The energy is still low at 25. Not worth paddling out.
The only real window of interest appears on the 25th of July, Saturday afternoon. The swell jumps to 2ft from the W with an 11-second period, giving a moderate wave energy of 116. Wind is cross from the WSW at 20 km/h. It’s not clean, but it’s the best looking patch in the whole run.
Then the 26th of July, Sunday, shows a little more – 3ft from the WSW (10-second period, energy 150) in the morning, and 3ft in the afternoon. Wind is cross-on, so expect some chop. The 27th and 28th keep similar size (2ft to 3ft) but the period drops to 6-8 seconds, making it weaker and choppier.
Honestly, for almost two weeks there’s no surf. The last few days (from the 25th) offer something small – around 2ft to 3ft – but it’s not clean. The best pick is the afternoon of the 25th of July. That’s it. If you’re a beginner, 2ft is fine; if you’re an expert, you’ll be bored. The reef itself is inconsistent, so this is a rare break showing any pulse. Crowds are possible – it’s a sometimes spot.
No standout, no epic. Just a small, late window with average conditions.
Rusty.
