The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's coming up.
Honestly, for the next week or so, it's looking pretty flat and ordinary. The Boiler is an inconsistent reef that needs a solid push from the southwest, and we just aren't getting it. From Wednesday the 19th right through the weekend and into the start of the following week, the swell is tiny, barely scraping a foot, and the energy is weak. It's just not worth paddling out for. There's a long stretch here with no real recommendations at all.
Now, things start to look a bit more interesting as we head into the end of the month and the start of September. The first real glimmer of hope shows up on Saturday the 29th of August. The Boiler gets a little bump in the afternoon, with some 4ft swell coming from the WSW and a period of 8 seconds. The wind is a clean cross-off, so it will be tidy. The wave energy gets into the moderate range, making it surfable, but it's still very ordinary.
The real standout, and the only one I'd get excited about, is looking like Tuesday morning, the 1st of September. We've got a solid 7.5ft ground swell from the WSW, rolling in with a long 10-second period. The wave energy is strong (939), which means plenty of push. The wind is a light cross-off from the WNW, so it should be clean. This is a lot of swell for The Boiler though—at that size it’s getting into expert territory for sure. For a reef break, a longer period swell like this will handle it well, but it’s not a day for beginners.
Before that, on Monday the 31st of August, the swell is even bigger, hitting 10ft, but the wind is much stronger and more side-shore, making it a messy, lumpy affair. That one's really only for the chargers and likely more gnarly than fun.
So, to wrap it up: the next week is a write-off for The Boiler. Keep an eye on Tuesday the 1st of September for your best bet at some decent, clean waves, but only if you've got the experience for it.
