Alright folks, it's Rusty here. Let's talk about what's brewing for The Boiler. I'll be straight with ya – it's a tough period ahead. We've got a long stretch of nothing much to work with, so patience is the name of the game.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, the honest truth is there's a massive gap of flat, poor-quality surf stretching from now all the way through most of the window. The Boiler is an inconsistent reef break, and this run really shows it. The water temperature is sitting at 68°, which is a huge 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's freakishly warm for July.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn't arrive until Tuesday the 14th. The morning offers a clean, cross-off wind with a 2ft swell from the west, ticking over at 11 seconds. The combined energy is still weak (70), but it's the first time we see the word "surfable" – albeit very ordinary. After days of zero scores, that's about as good as it gets here.
Following that, there's nothing else of note until the 19th and 20th. On Sunday the 19th, the afternoon swell bumps up to 6ft from the WSW, but that comes with moderate cross-onshore chop and a short, weak 7-second period. The energy is moderate for one of the few times in the window (278), but the conditions are poor overall.
The single standout, if you can call it that, comes on Monday the 20th. The morning session has a clean, 5ft west swell with a 9-second period and a solid fresh cross-off breeze. The energy jumps to strong (363), and the wind is clean. This is the best on offer for the whole 16 days. By the afternoon, the swell drops a touch to 4ft but the energy actually spikes to very strong (557) – that's the most power we see across the entire forecast. Despite that power, it's still only rated as poor surf conditions, so manage expectations.
Before that, the 13th is a weird one – a tiny 0.3ft swell but with a super long 19-second period. That's a very long period groundswell, but with barely any height, it's just not going to do anything at a reef. The wind is clean, though.
So, the long and short of it: there's barely anything to get excited about until the final few days. The 20th looks like the only real chance for a paddle, and even then, it's far from epic. For a spot that's already inconsistent, this stretch of poor surf is pretty normal. Forecasts can always change, but right now, I'd be keeping your board in the car and your expectations low.
