The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – the next 16 days at The Boiler are a total write‑off for surf. Not a single decent wave in the window. The forecast shows nothing but tiny, weak swell and poor conditions the whole way through. The Boiler is an inconsistent reef anyway, and it’s not cooperating at all. The water is running much warmer than normal for this time of year – about 69°, which is a solid 9° above the long‑term average. That’s a big anomaly, but it doesn’t help the waves.
The first few days are flat, with swell heights barely 0.3ft to 0.7ft – not even enough for a log. The combined wave energy sits at just 3 (weak) on Sunday the 19th, and stays under 10 until later. Winds are a mixed bag: some glassy mornings on Monday the 20th and Thursday the 23rd, but with zero swell it’s just a flat calm. The best chance of any size comes around Sunday the 26th of July, when a short‑period WSW swell pushes 5ft and combined energy reaches 190 (moderate). But the period is a weak 6 seconds, and the break still gets flagged as poor surf conditions. The wind is cross‑offshore, so it’s clean, but the waves are too short‑period and messy – better suited for a bodyboard than a proper surf. After that, it fades quickly back to nothing.
The rest of the month and into early August offers nothing. Even the offshore winds on Wednesday the 22nd, Tuesday the 28th, and Saturday the 1st of August can’t turn the tiny 0.7–2ft bumps into anything rideable. The combined energy never climbs above 48 during that stretch. There’s a rare glassy morning on Monday the 3rd of August, but again, only 0.7ft of swell. The Boiler is a reef that needs a solid SW groundswell to light up, and we’re not getting a sniff of that. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, but with conditions like this, you’ll have the place to yourself – and still no waves.
It’s a blank run, plain and simple. When the forecast shows nothing but “poor surf conditions” for sixteen straight days, it’s not a temporary blip – it’s just the nature of this spot. Sometimes the ocean just doesn’t deliver. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, save your petrol.
