Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Boiler over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. The whole 16-day window is pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak to no-surf days, so don't be in a rush.
The Boiler is an inconsistent reef break, and for the first couple of weeks, it’s just not showing any life. From Wednesday the 8th of July right through to the 22nd of July, we’ve got ankle-snappers at best. Swell heights barely scrape 2ft most days, and the wave energy is pitiful – even the best of this period, Friday the 10th of July morning, only clocks in at a combined swell energy of 42 (weak). The wind does swing favourable at times – you get some glassy mornings on the 9th and 18th, and a bit of offshore on the 10th and 21st – but there’s just no oomph in the water to work with. The direction is mostly W to WSW, which is fine for the Boiler’s exposure, but the period is often short (4 to 10 seconds), so it’s just slop.
There’s a noticeable gap of dead-flat conditions after the 20th, with energy readings of just 5 or 6 through to the 22nd.
Then, things change. On Thursday the 23rd of July, a pulse of swell finally arrives. The morning sees a 5ft WSW swell with a combined energy of 141 (moderate), but the wind is howling from the SW at 30 km/h, cross-on and lumpy. That’s a messy kite-surfing kind of day. The afternoon pushes up to a 7ft swell from the WSW, combined energy hitting 342 (moderate to strong), with a period of 7 seconds. Again, it’s accompanied by a raw 40 km/h cross-onshore wind and rain. This is big, raw, and unruly – strictly for experienced surfers only at The Boiler, and even then, it’s going to be a battle against the wind. The water temp is right around 68°F, which is 9°F above the norm for this time of year – that’s very unusual, so it’ll be a warm one if you do go.
For the whole window, there is no true standout. If you’re desperate, that Thursday the 23rd of July afternoon is the only time with any real size and power, but the conditions are brutal. For anyone else, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
