The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we've got on the cards for The Boiler over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch. This is a reef break, inconsistent at the best of times, and the next week and a half is looking pretty grim for any organised surfing.
Right now, we're looking at small, weak, messy energy. The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's very unusual, feels more like a bath than a surf.
We go from now all the way through to Tuesday the 27th of August with pretty much nothing worthwhile. That's a solid 11-day gap of poor surf conditions. The swell is tiny, often under 3ft, with a short, weak period around 6-7 seconds. On top of that, the wind is mostly cross or cross-off from the west, which just chops it up. There are a couple of glassy mornings, like on the 23rd and 25th August, but with swell barely pushing 0.7ft, it’s flat anyway. Not a single wave to get excited about.
Now, we finally see something stir on Wednesday morning, the 27th of August. A bit more push with a 5ft swell from the WSW, and the energy jumps up. It’s still a short period (7 seconds), but the morning wind is a clean cross-off from the NW. It’s surfable, but not exactly firing. Nothing here is a standout.
Things get a bit more interesting towards the very end of the forecast. On Saturday the 29th of August in the afternoon, the swell jumps to 8ft from the SW. That’s a moderate energy pulse, but it’s coming in with a fresh cross-breeze. It's big and punchy – for experienced surfers only, as it’s over 8ft.
The one day that might be worth circling is Sunday the 31st of August. The morning shows a solid 5ft swell from the west, with a moderate cross-shore wind. The period is still only 8 seconds, so it won't be the cleanest groundswell, but compared to the rest of this bleak run, it's the only window that could offer a few bog-rail turns for the brave. But honestly, with this setup, it might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
No standouts. No hidden gems. Just a long, lean period with one or two average windows at the far end. Keep the board in the car, but don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
