Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Boiler over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty quiet stretch ahead for The Boiler. We’re looking at a long dry spell with barely a ripple for the first week and a half. The water temp is sitting at 68°F, which is a whopping 9°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s really unusual, and it’ll feel like a warm bath when you get in.
Starting from Sunday the 12th through to Friday the 24th of July, the surf is pretty much flat. Swell heights are mostly bouncing between 0.3ft and 1.0ft, with combined wave energy rarely getting out of single digits – we’re talking values from 1 up to 34 (weak energy). The odd morning might have a glassy surface – like Thursday morning the 16th with 1.0ft from the SW and a 8-second period, or Friday morning the 17th with 1.0ft from the SW – but there’s just no power behind it. It’s a solid gap of about 12 days with nothing worth paddling out for.
The first sign of life shows up late on Friday the 24th of July. The afternoon sees a bump in swell to 3ft from the west, with a short 6-second period and combined energy hitting 98 (still weak). Winds will be cross-off from the WNW at 16 mph, keeping the surface clean. It’s small, but it’s the best we’ve seen for a while.
Then on Sunday the 26th, we get a real shift. The morning brings 6ft from the WSW with an 8-second period and combined energy jumping to 412 (moderate wave energy). Afternoon holds at 6ft from the same direction, energy even stronger at 587. Now, that’s a real swell – but the wind is a problem. It’s cross-onshore from the WSW at 19-22 mph, making it lumpy and messy. At that size and with that wind, this is really more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle session. It’s going to be choppy and hard to get a proper wave face.
This swell then drops back quickly. Monday the 27th sees 4ft from the WSW in the morning with a cross-shore wind, and 3ft in the afternoon with cross-onshore. The energy drops to 146 and 125 (still moderate). Not a standout.
So, the one standout here – and I say this with caution – is Sunday the 26th, if you don’t mind the wind. The swell is solid at 6-6ft from the WSW, pushing moderate energy into the reef. But the lumpy cross-onshore conditions will make it a battle. The Boiler is an inconsistent reef that needs the right combo, and unfortunately, the best swell of the period comes with a heavy side of wind.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the forecasts – things can flip.
