Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Boiler over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on the table for The Boiler over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you, this isn’t shaping up to be a classic run. We’re looking at a real lean stretch with barely a ripple for days on end.
The water’s sitting at 68°F, which is a solid 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, like the ocean’s had a hot bath and isn’t letting go.
The first week is a tough watch. From Saturday the 11th right through to Friday the 24th of July, it’s pretty much all “poor surf conditions” with tiny, weak swell and a whole lot of nothing. The combined wave energy is mostly teeny, two-digit numbers, rarely even cracking 30, so you’re looking at flat spells and scraps. Winds are all over the shop, sometimes clean but with next to no swell to work with.
The first real flicker of hope doesn’t come until Friday the 24th of July in the afternoon. We get a pulse of 6 ft swell from the WSW with a short period of 6 seconds, but the energy jumps to 230 – moderate energy at last. The wind swings offshore from the N at 12 mph, making for clean conditions. It’s surfable but very ordinary, a one-out-of-ten kind of deal. The Boiler is an inconsistent reef break, and crowds are possible.
Then Saturday the 25th of July brings a bigger spike: 8 ft from the W with an 8-second period. The combined energy rockets to 887 – strong wave energy. But here’s the kicker – the wind is cross-onshore from the SW at 9-16 mph, putting a chop on it. That size is only for experienced surfers, and with the messy wind, it’s not the clean day we’d hope for. The next morning, Sunday the 26th, drops right back down to 3 ft with fresh cross-onshore winds, lumpy and poor again.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, that Friday afternoon the 24th is the standout, but it’s a weak one. The bigger swell on the 25th has the power but the wind wrecks the quality. For most of the run, the beach setup here looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with the strong winds and bumpy conditions.
Keep an eye on the forecast, because a blank run like this tends not to stick around forever.
Rusty.
