Table - best surf conditions forecast for Surfside Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for Surfside Jetty. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much to get excited about, so if you’re hanging for a wave, you’ll need some patience.
Right now, and for the next several days, the story is the same: small, weak swell and poor conditions. The wave energy is moderate at best, sitting around 505 (moderate energy) on the 8th, but it’s paired with a 16-second period groundswell that wants to break straight on this beach setup. The wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, leaving the surface chopped and messy. The water temp is about 66°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
From the 8th of July right through to the 19th, it’s a real grind. The swell stays tiny, between 1.0 ft and 3 ft, and the wave energy drops off from 505 down to a weak 148 (weak energy) by the 17th. The wind is all over the place, but never truly offshore for long, and nearly every session is rated as “poor surf conditions.” There’s a tiny glimmer on the 12th afternoon and 19th morning where it’s called “marginal,” but honestly, that’s just a polite way of saying it’s still not worth paddling out for.
After a solid 12-day stretch of flat to poor conditions, things finally start to look a bit more interesting around the 20th of July. On Monday the 20th, we get a proper pulse of S swell, pushing up to 6 ft in the morning. That’s a significant jump – the energy reading hits 1313 (strong wave energy), which is the best we’ll see all forecast. The period is 13 seconds, so it’s a solid groundswell. But here’s the catch: the wind is onshore from the WSW, up to 12 mph, so it’s going to be a bumpy, blown-out mess. At 6 ft, it’s getting a bit big for beginners, and with that onshore wind, it’s really only for the dedicated crew on a bigger board. The afternoon sees it drop to 5 ft, but still with that strong energy (1170) and messy wind.
So, the one standout in this entire 16-day window is the morning of the 20th, if you’re an expert who doesn’t mind some chop. For everyone else, keep your board in the bag and wait for the forecasts to change – it can’t stay this poor forever.
Rusty.
