The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Look, I’m not gonna sugar-coat it – this is a pretty bleak run for Anderson Street. We’ve got a long 16-day window here, but honestly, there’s hardly anything worth paddling out for. The whole period is plagued by onshore and cross-onshore winds, and the surf quality is consistently shot.
Let’s break it down from the top. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 2nd of September, and even then it’s a brief, fleeting moment. We’ve got a long wait of nearly a week from the start of the forecast with nothing but chop and poor conditions.
For Wednesday morning, the 2nd of September, we finally get a bit of a window. The wind goes glassy, which is a massive positive for a sandbar break – it’ll be clean. The swell is coming from the S at about 4ft, and it’s a long-period groundswell of 13 seconds, which gives it some push. The combined energy is moderate at 555, but don’t get too excited. It’s a sandbar break, and that long period can make it a bit fat and straight. Still, with glassy conditions, this is the only time you’ll find anything remotely surfable. It’s rated for intermediate surfers, and crowds are possible here, so you might have a few company.
A quick word on the water – the first row shows the temperature at 74°, which is about 7° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual – you’ll definitely notice the bathwater warmth.
The rest of the fortnight is a write-off. Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th offer marginal surf at best, with cross-onshore winds spoiling any chance of a decent bank. Swell height climbs to 4ft on the Thursday, but with those annoying winds, it’s just messy. After that, it’s back to poor conditions and small, weak swell all the way through to Saturday the 12th of September. There’s a brief moment on Friday the 11th of September where the wind goes glassy again in the afternoon, but at only 2ft of swell and a weak energy reading of 255, it’s barely a ripple – more of a gentle rock.
So, if you’re desperate, set your alarm for Wednesday the 2nd of September, early morning. That’s your only shot. Otherwise, I’d save your energy. This stretch will test your patience. Rusty.
