The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. We’re looking at a tough 16-day stretch at Anderson Street (sandbar). Honestly, there’s not much to write home about for paddle surfing. The whole window is a bit of a washout.

The best you’ll see is on Wednesday, July 29th, with a 3ft SSW groundswell and a long 16-second period. The overall energy is moderate (783). Problem is, the wind is a cross-on southerly at 9 mph, putting a bit of a ruffle on it. Water temp is 72°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year. If you really want to try, Thursday morning, July 30th, might be a touch better: 4ft from the south, 14-second period, and the wind drops to a light 6 mph but stays cross-on. It’s still a marginal call, and the energy drops a bit (694).

After that, it’s a long, flat spell. From Friday, August 1st, all the way to August 13th, it’s consistently poor. Swell drops to 1-2ft, winds are onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave energy is weak (often under 200). Every single report is marked as “poor surf conditions.” If you’re into kites, the moderate breezes with small, choppy waves might be more fun than a surfboard.

The only tease is around August 7th and 11th, where the swell period jumps to a very long 18-19 seconds from the SSW, but the height is still only 1-2ft. That sort of long-period energy on a sandbar can make for weird, straight walls. The energy from those pulses is moderate (233-309), but it’s wasted on tiny waves.

So, no standouts here. No decent size, no clean conditions. It’s a dead run. For this area, when the wind and swell don’t line up, that’s just how it goes. We’ll have to wait for the next system.
