Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anderson Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get real about what’s on the table for Anderson Street over the next couple of weeks.
Look, I’ll be straight with you. The next week and a half is a real struggle. We’ve got a long, flat spell of poor surf conditions that just won’t let up. From Saturday the 11th right through to Friday the 17th, it’s all junk. Tiny, weak swell with a short period, mostly cross-onshore winds, and the wave comment says it all: "poor surf conditions." The combined energy is weak, mostly in the 140 to 350 range, and the swell height barely gets above 3ft. It’s just not worth paddling out for. The water temp is 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when there’s nothing to ride.
The one bright spot, and I mean the only one, is a potential window on Saturday the 18th. The morning shows a light offshore wind from the SW, with a 2ft swell from the SW, but the period jumps to 18 seconds. That long period gives it some grunt, and the combined energy jumps to 693. That’s moderate energy. The caveat is a "marginal" rating, but it’s the best we’ve got. That afternoon gets messy, though, with a bigger 4ft swell from the SSE, but a 15 km/h wind and a huge energy reading of 1159, which is strong. The wind is onshore, so it’ll be lumpy. For a sandbar break like Anderson Street, that long-period swell might make it a bit straight, but with the clean morning wind, it’s the only shot.
After that, Sunday the 19th has a cleaned-up morning with a 4ft S swell at 13 seconds, but it’s a marginal call. The rest of the week into the 26th is a repeat of onshore or cross-onshore winds and small, weak swell. Nothing else stands out.
So, the standout here is the morning of Saturday the 18th of July. It’s not perfect, but it’s the only time the wind is offshore and the swell has some life. If you’re desperate, get in the water early. For the rest of it, you’re better off finding something else to do. The gap between decent surf is basically the whole first week and a half.
Rusty.
