The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta give it to you straight about Anderson Street. For the next sixteen days, this is a week of waiting, then a possible payoff if you’ve got patience.

The first stretch is a total bummer. We're looking at tiny surf, with energy numbers mostly below 100 (94 to 158), and the wind’s all over the place but never helping. The water is warm, 73°, which is way above the norm for this time of year, but that doesn't help when the waves are flat and junky. Don’t expect any good rides for the first several days.

Now, heading into the second week starting August 7th, we get some more push in the water. The combined swell energy jumps to a moderate 330, and we've got a long-period groundswell from the SSW at a solid 19 seconds. But the size is still tiny, a mere 2ft, so it's not breaking with any power. This continues for days, with the period staying long and the direction holding from the SSW, but the size stays small.

The one window that has my attention is the morning of August 15th. We finally see the surf nudge up to a tiny 3ft, still from the SSW, but the wind is forecast to be light and offshore from the WSW. That's what you want to hear. That offshore wind will make the most of that long-period energy (587 reading) and give us some clean, shapey waves. It’s over a week out, so treat it as a promising lead, not a guarantee. The day before, the 14th, has similar energy but the wind isn’t as favorable, so the quality will be lower.

Don't get too excited about the rest, because after that 15th, the wind tends to clock around and get stronger, turning things back to messy. The 19th of August has a glimpse of long-period swell again, but the wind is forecast to be blowing offshore, making it another possible combo, but it's far out and marginal.

So, mark your calendars for the morning of the 15th. It's the only real standout where quality and size might line up. The rest of the time, you're better off finding another hobby.

Rusty out.
