The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've been staring at the charts for Anderson Street and I gotta be straight with you—it's a tough run. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a struggle. There's no single standout session that'll have you paddling out with a grin from ear to ear. The best we can call it is "marginal" on a few mornings, and that's even being generous.
Right now, the water's sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, about 69°, so at least a spring suit is all you'll need.
The first week is a write-off. Saturday the 22nd through to the end of August is all "poor surf conditions" with tiny waves. Sunday morning the 23rd has a 0.4 ft swell from the SW, but it's onshore and messy. The energy is weak (244), and it's just not worth the paddle out. Things stay small and choppy right through the following week.
We get a slight flicker of hope on the morning of Thursday the 4th of September. The wind swings light from the SSW, cross-onshore but light, with a 4 ft SSW swell running at a long 18 seconds. That long period means there's some decent energy (882), and the waves will have shape, but it's still a "marginal" call. The onshore wind on the afternoon will spoil it.
Then Saturday the 6th of September morning is another similar story: a 3 ft SSW swell with a 15-second period, light offshore wind from the SSW, and energy at 784. It's the best of a bad bunch, but it's still only a "marginal" forecast. The wind will be clean, but the swell is small and inconsistent.
Honestly, there's a gap of about 13 days from the start where there's genuinely nothing to recommend. The only real "maybe" days are the mornings of the 4th and 6th of September. The crowds at Anderson Street can be "sometimes" busy, but with this forecast, I doubt you'll have to fight for a wave. The optimum swell direction is SW, and the forecast is mainly SSW, so it's not a perfect match. For a beach break, a long-period swell like this (15-18 seconds) can sometimes break a bit too straight, so keep that in mind.
I wouldn't wet a board for this, mate. It's a flat spell. Keep an eye on the charts, 'cause it tends not to stay this poor for long.
