Anderson Street Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, Rusty here. Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Anderson Street over the next couple of weeks. It’s a sandbar setup, fairly exposed to the swell, and it likes a swell from the SW. We’re in for a pretty slow run, to be honest. There’s a glimmer of something decent this coming Sunday, but outside of that, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing for days on end.

The water temp is running about average for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.

We start off with Friday, the 4th of September, and it’s a write-off. Small 3ft SSW swell but with a 9 mph cross-on breeze, it’s just choppy and messy. The combined swell energy is weak (621). Not worth paddling out.

Saturday the 5th is still pretty average. We’ve got a similar size swell, around 4ft from the S, but the wind is onshore or crossing up. The energy picks up a bit (900), but the conditions are marginal at best.

Now, Sunday the 6th is our standout. The morning is looking clean. We get a 6ft swell from the S, with a period of 14 seconds, which has a bit of grunt to it. The combined swell energy is moderate (1209). What makes it shine is the offshore wind from the NE at 9 mph. That’ll keep things glassy and lined up. It’s a touch big for beginners, but for the intermediate crew, this is the best on offer. The afternoon turns more cross-onshore, so hit it early.

Monday the 7th holds some size, 6ft from the SSW, but the wind swings cross-onshore from the W at 6 mph, so it’s not as clean. The energy stays solid (1377), but it’s a bit lumpy. Not a complete waste, but not the pick.

From Tuesday the 8th onward, we hit a long, dry spell. The swell drops quickly, the wind messes up most sessions, and everything is either marginal or poor. By Thursday the 10th, we’re down to 3ft and energy levels are fading fast (574). The 17-second period is long, but there’s just not enough size.

Between Monday the 7th afternoon and Friday the 18th of September, you’re looking at a solid 10-day stretch with no real recommendations. It just goes flat and messy. The energy readings drop to two-digit or low three-digit numbers, like 188 or 159, and the wave heights barely hit 2ft.

There’s a tiny flicker of hope on Friday the 18th morning, where we see a 2ft SW swell with a very long 20-second period and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is still low (404), but it’s a long-period groundswell. That kind of period works best at points and reefs rather than a sandbar like this, so it’s a long shot. Something to keep an eye on, but don’t get your hopes up.

Overall, it’s a pretty lean outlook. The only real standout is Sunday morning the 6th. Get on it if you can.
