Praia Brava Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a good, hard look at what Praia Brava has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a bit of a mixed bag with a whole lot of waiting around for the magic to line up.

The first week and a half is pretty bleak. We’ve got some small, short-period windswell from the ENE around 3ft to 5ft, but the wind is just a constant battle – mostly cross or cross-onshore, and at times it gets pretty breezy. The wave energy is weak, sitting between 97 and 348, and those short 7 to 8 second periods just won't put any punch in the face of the wave. It’s the kind of stuff that’ll make you wonder why you bothered paddling out. There’s a long, quiet gap here with nothing really worth recommending.

Then, around Sunday the 9th, we see a flicker of life. The morning shows a 4ft S swell with a proper 16-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 1015. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the NNE, which would groom it nicely. It’s labelled as marginal, so the tide might be a bit of a nuisance, but that’s the first real window to get excited about.

After that, things get messy again. The swell builds through the week, hitting 7ft on Monday and Tuesday, but the wind turns onshore from the south, making a right mess of things. Even with 13-second periods and energy readings over 1300, you’re looking at choppy, blown-out conditions.

Now, here’s the real standout, the one you need to circle on your calendar. Friday morning, August 14th. This is the one. The swell is a solid 6ft from the south with a *very long* 16-second period, packing a massive 1887 combined energy. And the wind? Dead calm. Glassy. The report says "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers," and I can feel the stoke just reading it. That’s a day for the point breaks and reefs, as that long-period groundswell will wrap in beautifully. It'll be clean, powerful, and with long lulls between sets.

The following morning, Saturday the 15th, also looks promising. A 6ft S swell with 14-second period and light offshore winds from the west. It won’t be as pristine as Friday, but it’ll still offer clean, fun waves. After that, the window closes fast. The last week of the forecast gets ugly with building wind and messy, blown-out conditions, so don’t sleep on that Friday.
