The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for Playa de Premia. The forecasts are coming in with a big fat zero for a long stretch, and even when a tiny bit of energy shows up, it’s just not enough to get excited about. We’re looking at a gap of about four days with no surf at all right at the start, from Friday 7th August right through to Sunday 9th August. The water is sitting at a very warm 84°F – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, which is great for a swim but not helping the surf.
The first real sign of life is a tiny, weak swell on Monday 10th August. We’re talking a 2 ft swell from the SSE, with a period of just 5 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 16 (weak energy), and the wind is a light cross-shore from the ENE in the morning. It’s not going to do much. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the break is sheltered, so it’s not really worth a paddle.
The pattern stays pretty much the same for the rest of the week and into the next. A few glassy mornings here and there, like on Wednesday 12th August and Thursday 13th August, but the swell is either non-existent or barely a ripple. We get a few spells of light offshore or glassy conditions, but with swell heights of 1 ft or less, you’re just bobbing around. The combined energy values are all in the single digits, which is just about as weak as it gets. Even on Friday 21st August, when we see a touch more size at 3 ft from the NE and a bit more energy (47), the wind is a cross-shore from the SSW and it’s still being called poor surf conditions. The period is only 4 seconds, so it’s just messy windslop.
There is honestly no standout day in this window. The small swell directions are mostly from the SSE, SE, or SW, which is not the optimum E direction for this spot. The best conditions are just flat spells with nice weather. This is a blank run, plain and simple. For a break that’s usually fairly consistent, this is a tough spell, but it happens. Forecasts can change, so don’t throw the towel in just yet.
