Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's happening with North Street.
Mate, I'm not gonna lie to you, it's a tough stretch ahead. We've got a full 16-day window, but there's no standout surf to get excited about. The first week is almost a write-off, with no decent waves on offer at all. The whole pattern is just flat and messy.
From Thursday the 2nd of July right through to the 15th, it’s all poor surf conditions. Each session is scoring a zero. The swell is tiny, barely a wobble, with heights mostly between 0.7 ft and 3 ft. The swell energy is weak across the board, with the combined energy reading at only 47 (kWh) that first Thursday afternoon. The winds are all over the place – cross-shore, onshore, and choppy – so even the tiny ripples are going to be blown out. There’s a slight glimmer early on Friday morning the 3rd of July with glassy conditions, but it’s only 0.7 ft of swell – that’s bath-time stuff.
Water temps are a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 72°F on the Thursday. That’s a bit unusual, but not worth paddling out for on its own.
The only time we see a pulse of moderate energy is around Wednesday the 8th of July. The morning shows 3 ft swell from the ENE with a period of 6 seconds and combined energy vaulting up to 119 (kWh). The afternoon is similar with 4 ft and 117 (kWh) – that’s still short-period, weak energy for a beach/jetty setup, and the winds are cross-onshore, so it’ll be bumpy and grovelly. Not a standout.
Even into the second week, morning of Friday the 17th of July shows clean, cross-offshore winds, but the swell is only 2 ft from the South with a 5-second period and just 32 (kWh) of energy. It’s surfable if you’re desperate for a slide, but it’s small, weak, and ordinary.
Best on offer? There isn’t a true standout. If I had to pick the least bad window, it would be Wednesday the 8th of July. You’ll get the biggest swell of the period at 4 ft from the ENE, but with short period and cross-onshore wind, it’s going to be a mess. This is a beach/jetty break that can get a little busy, but honestly, with conditions this poor, you might have it to yourself. For beginners, stay home – it’s not worth it even on the bigger day. For experts, there’s nothing here to get you out of bed.
If you’re a kiter, those windy afternoons with cross-shore breezes might look more interesting than a paddle.
Rusty.
