The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, amigos, it’s a pretty grim stretch for North Street. The entire 16-day window is a wasteland of tiny, weak swell and less-than-ideal wind. We’re talking about a long stretch of days where you’d be hard-pressed to get a ride worth mentioning. The water is sitting at a balmy 78°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only good news.

Starting out, Saturday the 22nd is a non-starter. We’ve got a tiny 1.0 ft swell from the ESE with a short 8-second period, and it’s coming in with a cross-onshore breeze. The combined energy is a pitiful 35, so there’s just nothing to work with. This flat, weak pattern sticks around for days. The morning of Sunday the 23rd sees a 0.7 ft ESE swell, but at least the wind goes light cross-offshore, cleaning things up. Still, 0.7 ft is barely a ripple.

Monday the 24th is more of the same: clean but tiny, with 1.0 ft waves. The wind stays light cross-offshore, so the surface is good, but the swell is just not there. The energy readings are all in the 20s and 30s—weak, weak, weak.

We finally see a tiny bump on Thursday the 27th afternoon, with the swell jumping to 2 ft from the SE at 10 seconds, but it’s getting chopped up by a moderate onshore breeze. The energy climbs to 101, which is still very weak. The best chance in this whole period might be late Friday the 28th. The swell hits 4 ft from the S, but with a terrible 7-second period, making it weak and crumbly. The wind is light cross-offshore though, so the surface is clean. The energy is 236, which is moderate, but the wave quality is just ordinary.

The rest of the run into September is a mix of tiny S and E swells, all with onshore or cross winds. The morning of Wednesday the 2nd of September has a clean 2 ft swell from the SE with a 12-second period, giving it a bit more shape, but it’s still very small. The energy is 164, which is moderate. The conditions are described as “surfable but very ordinary,” which is the best we can hope for.

The only standout I can give you is late Friday the 28th of August. It’s the biggest we see, with 4 ft from the S, and the cleanest wind. The break is a beach/jetty setup, so it’s not a world-class wave, but it’s the only window where you might get a fun little ride. The crowds are sometimes a problem here, so with the lack of options, expect a few faces out. It’s not a classic, but it’s the best of a bad lot.

Rusty.
