Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Street over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim stretch ahead. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple worth paddling for. The first real glimmer of anything surfable doesn’t show up until Saturday the 18th, and even then it’s nothing to write home about. Before that, we’ve got over a week of flat, weak, and messy conditions. From now through Friday the 17th, it’s all small, short-period slop with poor winds and no energy. Not worth getting the wetsuit wet.
Finally, on Saturday morning the 18th, we get a tiny pulse. North Street sees a little 3ft swell from the south, with a light cross-offshore breeze from the WSW. The wave energy is still weak at 72, but at least it’s clean. The swell period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and weak, but for a beach/jetty break, it’s the best we’ve got. The water temp is about average for the time of year. Crowds are possible here, so don’t expect to have it to yourself.
That window doesn’t last. Saturday afternoon the wind picks up and the chop returns. Sunday the 19th offers a brief moment in the afternoon with a lighter northerly breeze and a 3ft SSE swell, but again, it’s just ordinary. The energy drops back down to 91.
After that, from Monday the 20th onward, it’s back into a grind of onshore winds and building but messy swell. The wave energy climbs into the 100s and even 198 by Tuesday the 21st, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy, so it’s poor surf. The swell height gets up to 5ft, but with that short period and bad wind, it’s just a washing machine. For a beach/jetty setup like North Street, this is more kite-surfing weather than clean paddle surfing.
Bottom line: if you’re desperate, Saturday morning the 18th is your only real shot. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for something better.
Rusty.
