Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mewslade Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cooking for Mewslade Bay over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple for the first week and a half. The first few days are all flat and clean, but that’s about it. From Friday 10 July through to Wednesday 22 July, it’s mostly tiny dribbles of swell with the wave energy sitting in the doldrums, like 20 to 30 (combined energy). There’s nothing to get excited about for a surf. The winds are often light or offshore, but with no waves, it doesn’t matter.
We finally get a little pulse of energy arriving on Monday 21 July, with some chest-high swell coming in from the W, around 4ft. The wind is cross-shore, so it’s a bit bumpy, but the energy jumps to a moderate 123. Still, not a standout. The real best chance we’ve got is on Wednesday 22 July morning. Now, listen up, because this is the only time the scorecard says "surfable." The swell is a modest 3ft from the WSW, period is a short 6 seconds, but the wind? It’s glassy. Dead flat calm. That’s golden. The water temp is 67°F, which is a whopping 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, so you’ll be in a spring suit or even boardies if you’re tough. The energy is a weak 87, so it’s not powerful, but it’ll be clean and fun for a longboard or a fish. Crowds are possible here, so get there early.
After that, it gets messy again. Thursday 24 July brings a bigger pulse of 5ft from the SW with moderate energy (220), but it’s cross-onshore and choppy – that’s more a kite-surfing setup than a good paddle session. The swell stays in the 5ft range on Saturday 25 July, but again, the wind is cross-onshore and lumpy. It’s a no-go for a clean wave.
So, if you’re itching for a surf, the only real window is the morning of Wednesday 22 July. It’s small, it’s weak, but it’s glassy. That’s your best bet. Everything else is a write-off for the next 16 days. Hang in there.
Rusty.
