Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mewslade Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking like a write-off for decent waves. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak surf ahead, so don't bother rushing to wax up just yet.
The whole 16-day window is a bit of a dud. For the first 15 days, from Tuesday 7th of July all the way through to Monday 20th of July, the swell is barely a whisper, with heights struggling to hit a foot and a half. The wave energy is pitiful, barely registering two digits (44). With that kind of size, you’re not surfing; you’re just floating. The water, however, is *much* warmer than normal for this time of year at 66°, which is a solid 7° above average – that’s very unusual.
Now, the best you can hope for in this flat spell is a window on Friday 10th of July. On Friday afternoon at Mewslade Bay, we’ve got a tiny 2ft swell out of the west, but the wind swings light offshore from the NNW. That’ll keep the surface clean. The combined energy is weak at 39. It’s not going to be a session to write home about, just a chance to bob around on a log if you’re desperate. Crowds are possible here, but honestly, with this lack of size, no one’s coming.
Honestly, the only thing that saves this outlook from being a total blank is a late pulse at the very end of the run. On Wednesday 22nd of July, things finally pick up. The swell jumps to 5ft to 5ft out of the WSW, with moderate energy hitting three figures (204). That’s a real swell. However, the wind is a fresh, lumpy cross-shore from the WNW, which will chop it right up. It’s going to be a messy, bumpy wave for the experts only. The period is short too, around 7-8 seconds, so the waves will lack any real shape or push. For the average punter, that day will be more about the power than the quality. If you’re a strong paddler, maybe give it a look, but don't expect much.
So to sum it up: almost two weeks of flat, glassy nothing, then a blast of messy, blown-out swell right at the end. Surf-wise, the only real standout is that Friday 10th of July window for a clean, tiny wave. The rest is for the kites if the wind’s right.
Rusty.
