Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s shaking at Farmer Burgers. This is a reef break, exposed to the southwest swell window, and it’s fairly consistent, so there’s plenty to keep an eye on. The water is sitting at 56° – that's about two and three-quarter degrees cooler than normal for this time of year, so you’ll feel that extra chill.
We’ve got a solid run of surf starting right away. Monday morning (July 6th) is the standout early in the period: 6ft of clean, glassy southwest groundswell with a long 11-second period. The combined energy is a solid 731 – that’s moderate-plus, plenty of push. It’ll be a bit cold and quiet out there, but the conditions are absolutely perfect for an intermediate surfer. This is the best you’ll see all week. The swell direction aligns nicely with the optimum WSW, so the reef will be firing.
By Monday afternoon the wind comes up and turns it choppy, and Tuesday morning is similar to Monday but a touch smaller at 4ft – still glassy and clean, so worth a paddle. The combo of that long-period groundswell (12 seconds) and moderate energy (750) will give you some nice shaped waves, though the sets will be a little more spaced out.
Wednesday and Thursday see the swell bump up a bit – 5ft with a very long 13- to 14-second period – and the combined energy climbs into the 1000s (1178 and 1094). That’s moderate-strong energy. But the wind is cross or cross-on, so it won’t be as polished. If you’ve got a kite, that afternoon on Wednesday with a 15 mph cross-on breeze and a clean 5ft swell might actually be more your speed than a paddle.
Friday morning (July 10th) is another glassy gem – 4ft, southwest swell, 13-second period, glassy conditions, and moderate energy (619). That’s a solid session before the weekend.
Saturday morning (July 11th) drops to 3ft but picks up a clean cross-off breeze – crisp little waves if you’re on a log or a fish.
There’s a bit of a lull from around Sunday July 12th through to Wednesday July 15th – waist-to-knee-high stuff, with the combined energy falling to between 120 and 234. Some of those mornings are glassy but the swell is just too small to get excited about.
Things start to lift again on Thursday July 16th morning: 4ft, glassy, 12-second period, 344 energy – that’s a good morning for a fun session. Then Saturday July 18th morning offers 4ft with a clean cross-off breeze – another good call.
But the real standout in the second week lands on Sunday July 19th morning. We’re looking at 8ft of WSW swell, 11-second period, and combined energy at 1292 – that’s strong to very strong. However, the wind is onshore (6 mph from the SW), so it’ll be a bit raw. At 8ft this is expert territory only – this is a big, powerful reef break. If you’re a charger, that’s your window, but it won’t be pretty. Monday July 20th afternoon sees 7ft swell, 12-second period, and energy at 1286 with a light cross-shore – that could be a solid, slightly cleaner option if you’re after size.
Overall, Monday morning July 6th and Friday morning July 10th are your top picks: clean, glassy, and solid intermediate surf. The big stuff on the 19th is for the experienced crew only.
Stay safe out there.
