Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: this is a tough stretch for Blackies. The entire 16-day outlook is a long grind of small, choppy, or onshore surf. Don't expect much at all.
We kick off Thursday the 2nd of July with a tiny 2ft SSW groundswell, but it's coming in with a 16-second period. The water is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The morning has a light offshore breeze, so it could look okay, but the wave energy is weak (271) and the conditions are listed as marginal. Not a day to get excited about. By the afternoon, the wind swings cross-onshore and it's all over.
This same story basically repeats itself for days. The swell stays stuck between 2ft and 3ft, mostly from the SSW, with a period that drops from 18 seconds down to 12 seconds. The wind is almost always cross-onshore or onshore, making the surf poor. There are a few mornings with light offshore winds, but the energy is so low (hundreds, not thousands) that it's barely worth paddling out for.
A small bump appears around Tuesday the 8th and Wednesday the 9th, where the swell energy climbs into the mid-to-high 500s and once even hits 760. The swell is only around 3ft from the SSW with a long 18-second period. The mornings are clean with light offshore wind, but it's still marginal. The longer period might make it a bit walled at this beach-and-point setup, but it's the best you're going to see.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is Tuesday the 2nd of July and Tuesday the 8th of July. On the 2nd, that morning glass-off with 2ft, 16-second swell is just about rideable. On the 8th, the morning has a touch more size at 3ft, 18 seconds, with light offshore winds and the highest energy reading of the whole run (671). That's the pick of the litter, but it's still small and marginal.
The whole second week is grim. The swell drops under 2ft, the energy plummets, and there's nothing worth chasing. We're looking at a near-blank run from roughly the 14th onwards.
Honestly, this is one of those stretches where the forecast can change, but right now, you're better off waiting for the next system. There's no power, no consistency, and the wind is doing us no favours. I'd be looking at kite surfing long before I'd paddle out here.
Rusty.
