Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, checking in on the local stretch at the Jetty. To be honest, it's looking like a bit of a flat spell for the most part. We've got a long wait on our hands.
We're starting off on Friday, July 3rd, with some small energy in the water. Swell is a modest 3ft from the SSW, but the wind is a cross-shore breeze, so the surface is a bit rumpled. The water temp is sitting at 67°F, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The combined energy is weak (316), and it's a real struggle for any kind of shape. Friday afternoon gets blown out with a moderate cross-shore, so don't bother.
Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th are more of the same story: tiny 2 to 2ft SSW swells with cross-shore winds and marginal conditions. The period is long, around 14 to 18 seconds, but with so little size, it's just not doing anything for us. The wave energy is weak (343-380). Monday the 6th is a write-off with a cross-onshore breeze.
Now, here’s a glimmer. Tuesday, July 7th rolls around and the swell bumps up to 3ft, still from the SSW, with a very long period of 18 seconds. The morning shows an offshore breeze, which is a huge plus. The wave energy jumps to a moderate 710. It's still small, but that's the cleanest window we get in the first week. Keep an eye on the tide though, as conditions are still just marginal.
The rest of that week and into the next is a grind. From Wednesday the 8th right through to Sunday the 12th, we're dealing with persistent onshore or cross-onshore winds and weak, small swells. The energy just drops off a cliff (273-326). Honestly, it's a blank run.
There is one interesting moment. On Sunday afternoon, July 12th, the wind swings around to a light cross-offshore from the WNW. The swell is still a tiny 3ft, but the forecast says "clean." It's our one golden hour in a desert, but don't expect much power.
From Monday the 13th onward, it's a slow tapering death. Swells shrink to 1ft and the wave energy barely registers (120-219). There's no real stand-out in the second week. The last call on Saturday, July 18th, has a 2ft SW swell with an onshore breeze. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
