Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s shaping up for our stretch of coast. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day forecast is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, quiet spell with only a glimmer of hope way down the line, so patience is the name of the game.
Right now, and for the next couple of weeks, the surfing is pretty grim. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1ft to 2ft, and it’s coming from the SSW. The wind is a constant issue too, mostly cross or cross-on, keeping the surface choppy and the conditions poor. The combined energy is weak, sitting in the hundreds (355-500 range) – not enough push for anything worthwhile. The water temp is about average for July, nothing to get excited about there. Honestly, it’s a kite surfer’s playground more than a surfer’s right now. We’re looking at a solid 13-day gap with no real surf on the table. The only break in the mix is Corona Del Mar Jetty, and for most of this period, it’s flat and messy.
Now, let’s talk about that one bright spot that’s got me looking at the calendar. On Saturday, July 18th, things start to change. We get a new swell coming from the SSE, pushing the wave height up to 4ft. The combined energy finally jumps into a four-digit value (1135), which gives it some real grunt. The period is a healthy 17 seconds, so this is a proper groundswell with some shape. The wind is light, swinging cross-on to cross, which will clean things up a bit. It’s still marginal, but it’s the first real sign of life.
But the standout, the one day that’s worth circling on your calendar, is Sunday, July 19th. The swell builds to 6ft from the south with a 15-second period. That combined energy hits 1589 – that’s serious power. For Corona Del Mar Jetty, a south swell direction is a good match. The main catch? That wave height is getting into expert territory; this won't be for the faint of heart or beginners. The wind is cross-shore from the west at 9 mph, so it won't be glassy, but it'll be a clean, solid wave. Given this is over two weeks away, treat it as a promising forecast, not a guarantee, but it’s the only real chance we’ve got.
So, for now, wax your board and wait. The 19th of July is the real target.
Rusty.
