Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright gang, Rusty again, translating this into feet and degrees for those who think in imperial.
First, the bad news. There’s a long drought coming. Starting Monday the 6th of July, Corona Del Mar Jetty is looking at a tiny 2ft SSW swell with onshore wind. That combined energy is weak to moderate, and the conditions are just poor. That stretches on and on. On the 7th, we get a bump to about 3ft, but with long period (18 seconds) and marginal tide issues. The water is about 67°F, dead average for the season.
The quiet spell runs right through the 12th and 13th. Monday the 13th afternoon is a small break in the clouds – a 3ft SSW groundswell with a light WNW offshore breeze. That will look smooth. They’re calling it “expect good surf conditions.” It’s not pumping, but it’s clean. After that, Tuesday the 14th drops back to 2ft and stays there. Wednesday to Friday the 17th is even worse – 1ft to 2ft – with weak energy. The period gets long (up to 19 seconds on Friday morning the 17th), which at a beach break like this means long lulls and waves that just stand up and collapse.
Now, the only real standout, and I mean the only one, is Sunday the 19th. We see a decent 5ft SSE swell rolling in. The combined energy jumps to 1082 – that’s some proper power. The period is a solid 15 seconds. The wind is light from the SSW, so it’s onshore in the morning and cross-onshore later, so it won’t be pristine, but for a confident surfer, that’s the best wave in the window. It’s a marginal forecast, but it’s the one worth aiming for. Crowds are likely here, so if it looks good, you better bring your competitive edge.
Other than that, the whole 16-day run is mostly flat or messy. You’d be better off with a kite more often than not. Sorry, folks.
Rusty.
