The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. The next 16 days are looking like a slow grind for Corona Del Mar Jetty. The first solid recommendation doesn't kick in until later in the period, so we’ve got a bit of a wait.
Right now, through the end of July, it’s mostly a story of small, messy swell with light cross-onshore winds. The combined wave energy is mostly moderate, sitting in the 300-900 range, but the surf quality is just poor to marginal. The water temp is 69° and running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so the sting is gone, but the waves aren't doing much.
The first real standout arrives on Friday, 31st July. The morning sees a bump in swell to 5ft from the SSE, with the combined energy jumping to a strong 1725. The wind is light and cross, so it’s clean. By the afternoon, it gets even better for the experienced surfers: the swell hits 7ft from the S (energy 2182), and it’s still light cross-shore. That’s proper size, so beginners should sit this one out. The period is 14-15 seconds, which is a nice long groundswell, but at a beach break, it might wall up a bit. Still, with the clean conditions, this is the best on offer.
The Saturday morning (1st August) is still decent for the bigger crew, with 6ft from the S, but the energy drops off a bit to 1181. The wind stays light cross-onshore, so it’s workable. After that, it fades quickly into smaller, less interesting stuff.
Overall, the best two windows are the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning of the 31st and 1st. The rest of the period is a skip. It tends not to stay this flat for long, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
Rusty.
