Table - best surf conditions forecast for Corona Del Mar Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Corona Del Mar Jetty over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The water temp is sitting at a pretty normal 67°F, just a touch warmer than average for this time of year. No real drama there.
The first thing worth paddling out for won’t show up until Saturday the 18th of July. That morning, we’re looking at a south-southeast swell pushing 4ft and a period of 15 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell, so there’ll be some energy in the water. The combined energy is 1044 (moderate to strong). Wind is light cross-onshore from the SW at 3 mph, so it’ll be a bit bumpy but still rideable. Come Saturday afternoon, the swell bumps up just a touch to 5ft from the south, period 14 seconds, and energy climbing to 1115. Winds go cross-shore from the west at 9 mph, so not glassy, but it’s a workable session. This Saturday is your best bet of the whole outlook – it’s not perfect, but it’s the most interesting wave we’ll see.
Sunday the 19th will still have some south swell at 4ft in the morning, but the period drops to 11 seconds and the energy falls off to 644. Cross-shore winds from the west at 6 mph offer decent conditions, but the quality is a notch down.
After that, we enter a long stretch of marginal surf. A few pulses of 3ft to 4ft show up here and there, but the winds are mostly cross or cross-on, and the conditions never really click. The combined energy stays moderate, and the scores tell the same story – nothing worth getting too excited about.
Then, mark your calendar for Friday the 24th of July. The swell jumps to 6ft in the morning from the south, period 15 seconds, and the energy hits 1463 – that’s strong. Winds are light cross-onshore from the west-southwest at 6 mph. That’s a powerful groundswell. By the afternoon, we’re looking at 6ft from the south, 15 seconds, and energy up to 1608. Cross-shore wind from the west at 9 mph. This is expert territory – 6ft to 6ft is for confident surfers only. The long period (15 seconds) will make the sets fat and lined up, which at a Jetty break could work nicely, but expect plenty of water moving around. Paddling out between sets will be easier, but don’t get caught inside.
Saturday the 25th sees the swell back down to 5ft from the south, period 12 seconds, morning offshore from the south at 6 mph. That’s clean, but the energy is 777 (moderate). It’s a step down from the day before.
All in all, Saturday the 18th is your standout for a fun, manageable session. Friday the 24th is the big one for the experienced crew, but keep in mind it’s more than a week away, so treat that as promising but not locked in.
Stay safe out there.
