The Lowdown

Alright folks, it's Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the pipe for Corona Del Mar Jetty. The short version is: we're in for a bit of a waiting game. The next week and a half is mostly a washout, but there's a glimmer of something better far out on the horizon.

The water is sitting at a comfortable 69°F right now, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.

Friday the 17th to Sunday the 27th of July
Don't get your hopes up for the next ten days. The surf is tiny and weak with a combined energy that barely gets going (hovering around 209 to 331). The wind is a constant problem, blowing onshore or cross-onshore even at light speeds. It's just poor surf conditions, day after day. Monday the 20th shows a bit of a bump with some 4ft swell from the SSW, but the cross-onshore wind still messes it up, leaving it marginal at best. From the 22nd to the 27th, the swell energy does climb significantly, hitting over 1000, but the wind never fully cooperates, keeping things in that "marginal" zone. It's a long, flat stretch with nothing worth paddling out for.

Monday the 28th of July to Wednesday the 30th of July
Still not much to write home about. The swell holds around 3ft to 5ft from the SSW and SW, with light winds, but the forecast is still just marginal. The energy is there, but the quality isn't.

Thursday the 31st of July
Alright, this is the one to circle on the calendar. By Thursday morning, we see a solid 6ft swell from the S with a period of 14 seconds. That's a proper groundswell with some serious energy (combined energy of 1345). The wind is light and cross-onshore, which could clean up nicely. This is the standout of the entire forecast. It's still a week and a half out, so don't book the day off work just yet, but it's the first real sign of life. The afternoon looks a little lumpier with a cross-shore breeze, but the morning session is the one to aim for. Keep an eye on this one.

Saturday the 1st of August
The swell drops back down to 4ft and the energy fades (576), so it's back to the marginal zone.

All in all, it's a tough outlook. A lot of waiting for very little. The only real standout is the morning of Thursday the 31st of July, but it's a long way off. For now, it's a waiting game.

Rusty.
