Table - best surf conditions forecast for Laguna Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty lean out there. The water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, so no surprises there, but the ocean just ain’t delivering. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much worth paddling out for, starting now and running through a solid dry spell. The first real glimmer of something rideable won’t show until around the 11th of July, and even then, it’s barely a whisper.
From the 10th of July right through the morning of the 11th, it’s all poor surf conditions – the swell is tiny at 3 ft from the SSW with a 15-second period, but the wind is a messy cross-onshore, making it choppy and uninviting. The wave energy is weak, sitting in the 300s (321-362), but with the wind all wrong, it’s just not worth the effort. Then, on the 11th and 12th of July, the swell drops slightly to 2.5 ft-3 ft and the wind shifts to light cross-shore, leaving us with marginal surf – small wind ripples on the surface, nothing clean. The energy drops into the 200s and low 300s (268-321). You might get a knee-high roller if you’re desperate, but the tide and shape are questionable.
After that, from the 13th of July through to the 24th, it’s a real nothing period. Swell sizes tumble, getting down to 1.3 ft to 2 ft, with periods that are all over the place – some long-period 18-second groundswell, but so tiny it’s barely a bump. The wind is a mixed bag of light onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave energy is weak, with values between 134 and 380, but mostly on the low side. It’s all poor or marginal at best. Honestly, for anyone who isn’t riding a piece of foam, this stretch is a write-off. A blank run like this is pretty normal for this area when the swell windows don’t line up.
The only faint heartbeat in this forecast comes right at the end, on the morning of the 25th of July. The swell picks up slightly to 3.3 ft from the W, but it’s a short-period 8-second wind swell. The wave energy is still weak at 223, and the wind is a gentle cross-onshore, creating a choppy surface. It’s not good quality – still rated as poor. That’s it, folks. No standouts, no gems to chase. If you’re a kiter, maybe those choppy conditions on the 10th or 25th might be worth a look, but for a surfer, it’s a long, flat wait.
Stay patient. It’s gonna be a quiet couple of weeks.
