Table - best surf conditions forecast for Laguna Beach over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks at Laguna Beach (United States). Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet stretch overall. The surf just isn’t firing for most of the period, from this Sunday afternoon all the way through to the end of the month. The water is sitting at 72°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year – a solid 5°F above the norm, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home.
We’re looking at a long, dry gap in quality surf. From Sunday afternoon (16 August) right through to the morning of Friday 28 August, the conditions are generally poor or marginal. The swell is tiny, mostly 1ft to 3ft from the SSW, with weak energy readings (mostly between 119 and 348). The wind is often cross-on or onshore, keeping things choppy. There’s nothing here that’s worth a paddle out.
The one real standout, and the only time I’d bother getting my board wet, is on the afternoon of Wednesday 26 August. The forecast shows a glassy wind state, which is a massive positive. The swell is only 2ft from the SW with a period of 16 seconds, giving a combined energy of 167 – still weak, but the glassy conditions will make it look clean. It’s a reef break that’s fairly consistent and rated intermediate, but with those tiny waves, it’s more of a longboard or funboard session. There’s a long wait for it, but that’s the best on offer.
After that, the last few days of the month show a slight uptick in energy. The morning of Saturday 29 August sees a 3ft SSW swell with a 17-second period and a combined energy of 468 – the highest reading in the whole forecast. The wind is light and cross-shore, which is okay, but the surf is still marginal. If you’re desperate, it might be worth a look, but don’t expect magic.
So, there you have it. The 16-day window is mostly a bust. The only real chance to get a clean, glassy wave is on the 26th, but it’s going to be small. Stay patient.
Rusty.
