The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about this stretch of coast. Honestly, it’s a pretty bleak run for the next couple of weeks. The water is sitting at 72°, which is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about.
We’re looking at a long gap of nothing. From now, Wednesday the 15th, all the way through to Sunday the 19th, it’s just poor surf conditions. Tiny waves, bad wind, and no energy. You’re not missing a thing.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Monday the 20th. That morning, Belmar starts to see a little life. The swell picks up to 3 ft, coming from the SSE with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 132, but the real story is the wind. It’s glassy, dead calm. That’s a major positive. The surf is still very ordinary, but it’s the only window in the whole forecast that’s even worth a look for a small wave session. The swell direction isn’t ideal for this spot’s optimum, but the clean conditions make it the best on offer.
Monday afternoon goes to crap with a cross-shore wind, and then the rest of the week is a write-off. Tuesday the 21st through Thursday the 30th is just a graveyard of poor surf, tiny waves, and onshore or cross winds. The energy drops off a cliff, with most readings under 100 (weak). There’s a brief moment on Saturday the 25th afternoon where it gets offshore and clean with 2 ft, but it’s barely surfable.
If you’re desperate for any wave, Monday morning the 20th is your only real shot. Keep the boards in the car for that one.
Rusty.
