Table - best surf conditions forecast for Timber Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this stretch at Timber Cove is a real mixed bag, and for the most part, it’s a frustrating watch. We’ve got some pulses of energy coming through, but the wind is almost always messing it up, and the quality just isn’t there for a proper paddle session. There’s a long, bleak gap in the middle where there’s really nothing to get excited about, so let’s break it down.
The first few days, starting Sunday the 12th, are a wash. Waist-high 3ft WNW windswell with a short, weak 8-second period, but the wind is cross or cross-onshore, just killing any chance of a decent face. The water is sitting at 55°, which is about average for this time of year, but the conditions are just poor. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are worse – the wind cranks up to 18-22 mph, making it lumpy and choppy. The combined swell energy is moderate (432-464), but it’s all wind-affected junk. Honestly, with that swell size and the strong cross-wind, a beach setup like this looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are the same old story. The swell gets a bit bigger, pushing 6ft to 7ft, and the energy jumps into the strong range (1182), but that wind is howling from the NW at 18-22 mph. It’s cross-shore and lumpy. This is expert-only territory for size, but the chop makes it a total mess. Nothing to recommend here.
We hit a dead zone from Friday the 17th all the way through to Wednesday the 23rd. The swell drops right off, with heights mostly between 2ft and 3ft. The period gets long, even hitting 17-18 seconds, which is a proper groundswell, but it’s coming from the SW and the energy is moderate (around 400-470). The problem is the wind stays cross-on or cross, and the wave comment is just “poor surf conditions” or “marginal.” It’s a long, flat, frustrating run.
Now, finally, we get a glimmer. On Thursday the 23rd, in the afternoon, we see a pulse of 6ft NW swell with a 9-second period and the combined energy is strong (776). The wind swings light from the S, making it cross-on but light. The wave comment is “marginal,” but it’s the best score we see. This is the only real standout in the entire 16 days, but it’s a one-off. It’s a bit of a gamble, but that light wind is a major positive, so it might just clean up for a session.
The rest of the run into the 27th is more of the same – messy onshore wind and poor conditions. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th have some size, with 5ft to 8ft NW swell, but the wind is a fresh 18-22 mph cross-shore again, making it a lumpy mess for experts only. The long-range stuff on the 27th is small and weak.
So, to sum it up: the only real chance to get wet is the afternoon of Thursday the 23rd. That’s your one shot. Everything else is a write-off. Keep your eye on the forecast, because it’s been a tough run.
Rusty.
