Table - best surf conditions forecast for Timber Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Timber Cove.
Look, I’ll be honest with you – the next couple of weeks are a real mixed bag. We’ve got some size moving through, but the wind is just going to be a problem almost the whole time. It’s a classic case of the swell and the wind not playing nice together. There’s no single standout day that’s going to have you calling in sick, but there are a few windows where you might scrape a few if you’re desperate.
The water is sitting at 57°, which is about a degree and a half warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a little bonus, but it won’t make up for the chop.
We start off on Thursday, July 9th, with a bit of a pulse. Thursday morning sees a 6 ft swell from the WNW, but it’s a short-period 8 seconds and that wind is a cross-shore at 12 mph. The energy is pumping at 1106, but the waves are going to be a mess. The afternoon drops to 3 ft but the wind picks up to 19 mph, so that’s a write-off. Seriously, unless you’re on a kite, don’t bother.
Friday, July 10th, is more of the same story. A 5 ft swell in the morning with cross-shore wind, and the afternoon jumps to 6 ft but with a horrible 22 mph cross-shore. The period is a weak 7 seconds. It’s going to be lumpy and ugly.
Saturday, July 11th, the morning is tiny at 2 ft, and the afternoon has 5 ft but again, that 19 mph wind turns it into a washing machine. The energy is moderate at 418, but it’s not surfable.
Sunday, July 12th, is the closest thing we have to a ‘maybe’ in the first week. The morning has a 4 ft swell at 9 seconds, with a gentle cross-onshore breeze. It’s not clean, but it’s the weakest wind we’ve seen. The afternoon, however, gets a 7 ft swell with a moderate cross-shore, and the energy jumps back up to 1006. That’s a lot of water moving, but it’s going to be a messy, choppy beast. Not for the faint-hearted.
After that, it’s a long stretch of nothing. From Monday, July 13th, all the way through to Wednesday, July 22nd, the conditions are just poor. The wind is either too strong or onshore, and the swell is either weak or inconsistent. You’ll see tiny waves and fresh breezes, but nothing you’d want to paddle out for. That’s a solid 10-day gap with no real recommendations.
The only glimmer comes in the second week, on Saturday, July 18th, and Sunday, July 19th. We get a 2 ft to 3 ft swell from the SW, but the period is a very long 17 to 18 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy, and the combined energy is actually decent, hitting 486 on the 18th. The wind is light and cross-onshore, which isn’t perfect, but it’s the best we’ll see. It’s a long shot, but if you’re desperate, that long-period groundswell might wrap into the points better than the beach. Don’t expect much, but it’s the only thing close to “surfable” in the whole outlook.
To be blunt, Timber Cove is a tough beat this fortnight. The swell is there, but the wind is ruining it. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of this period. Hang in there, the forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
