Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Fort over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's get straight into it.
Alright, look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. The Fort is a reef break that needs a specific SW swell and clean conditions to really shine, and this 16-day window is a real mixed bag of frustration. To be honest, the first week and a half are pretty much a write-off for any decent surfing. The wind is almost always cross or cross-on, and the swell is messy. There's a bit of a pulse on Thursday the 16th with a solid 7ft of WNW swell, but the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-shore, making it lumpy and poor. That setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The combined energy is strong (1108), but it's just not going to be clean.
The only real glimmer of hope comes right at the tail end of the forecast. Look at Saturday the 18th, specifically the afternoon. We've got a tiny 2ft of SW groundswell, but the period is a very long 18 seconds, and the wind goes glassy with a light offshore. That's the magic window. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. For a reef break like The Fort, that long period is perfect, giving it shape and power. The combined energy is moderate (528), but it's the quality that matters. The crowd might be there, but for that one session, it could be worth it. After that, it's back to the same old story of lumpy, cross-shore junk. Sunday the 19th isn't great, but Monday the 20th morning has a chance with light winds and a 2ft SW swell, but it's still marginal.
So, to sum it up: the stand-out, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is the afternoon of Saturday, July 18th. It's a small window, but it's the only one with the right ingredients. The rest of the forecast is a long, frustrating stretch of onshore junk.
Rusty.
