Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doran Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Doran Beach has cookin’ for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got some consistent, rideable waves rolling in, but it’s a mixed bag, so you gotta pick your moments. The water temp is sittin’ about average for the time of year at 57°F.
The first shot of decent surf kicks off Friday morning, July 10th. We’re lookin’ at a 7ft swell from the WNW with a short, choppy 8-second period. The wave energy is pretty meaty (1052), but that 12 mph cross-off wind is gonna keep things clean enough to paddle out. This is a beginner spot, and it’s inconsistent, so don’t expect a full-on session, but it’s somethin’. The afternoon picks up a bit in size to 8ft, but the wind jumps to 19 mph and the period drops to 7 seconds, making it a bit of a mess and too much for a beginner.
Saturday the 11th sees the swell drop back to 5ft in the morning with cleaner 9 mph cross-off winds, but the period stays short. The energy is way down too (435). It’s an option for a longboard, but nothin’ to write home about.
Here’s the standout for the whole period: Sunday morning, July 12th. The swell is a solid 6ft from the WNW, and more importantly, the period stretches to 9 seconds – that’s groundswell energy, giving the waves some shape. The wind is a light 6 mph cross-shore, which will leave the surface a bit crinkly but not blown out. The energy (692) is moderate. For an inconsistent beach break like Doran, this is the best window you’ll get. After that, the wind and size get a bit lumpier through Monday and Tuesday.
Now, a heads up: the big Wednesday on July 15th pumps out a 10ft swell in the afternoon with energy cranked right up (1399). That’s strictly for experts only – way too big for beginners – and Doran can get handled by that size.
After the 15th, things go quiet. From Thursday the 16th all the way through to Saturday the 25th, the swell fades into the 2ft to 4ft range, with only a few brief windows of glass on the morning of July 24th. Most of those days will see cross-shore or cross-off winds, but without the power behind it, you’ll be bobbing around on small, weak waves. There’s a long, flat spell in the middle there, so don’t plan your week around it.
The standout morning to pencil in is Sunday, July 12th. It’s the most promising mix of size, period, and manageable wind in the whole forecast. Just remember, crowds are possible here, so get out early.
Rusty.
