The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer at the Russian Rivermouth over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, we're looking at a pretty lackluster stretch ahead. The Russian Rivermouth is a river mouth setup that's inconsistent, so it takes a decent swell to get it going. Right now, we've got a lot of small, weak energy, and the wind is often onshore or cross-onshore, which is a real bummer.

The first proper window to even think about paddling out is Thursday morning, August 13th. We've got a bit of a set-up with a 3ft swell from the WNW, but the real story is the 12-second period and a clean, cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate (383). It's small, but it's the cleanest wave we'll see for a while. Water temp is sitting at 56°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you'll want a thicker suit.

The following week doesn't get much better. On Saturday morning, August 22nd, we get a rare moment of glassy conditions. The swell is tiny, only 2ft from the SSW, but with a solid 14-second period, the combined energy is weak (247). The wind is glassy, and the forecast calls for good surf conditions. This is a real micro-session, and since it's a rare, inconsistent break, you might just have it to yourself.

For the rest of the period, we're looking at small, wind-affected waves and poor surf conditions. The swell is there, but it's mostly short-period slop with onshore winds. There are long gaps between any decent opportunities. The only real standouts are those two mornings: Thursday the 13th for the cleanest, most rideable conditions, and Saturday the 22nd for the glassy, albeit tiny, swell. Don't expect much else.

Rusty.
