The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on offer at Emma Wood State Beach.
Honestly, this forecast is a tough one. We're looking at a real flat spell with no surf worth paddling out for over the next two weeks. There's a long stretch of days here where the waves are just too small and the conditions are a mess. The whole period from now through early September is a write-off. The best we can say is that a few mornings around the start of September might have a tiny window, but it's a real struggle.
The first faint glimmer comes on Saturday the 29th of August. The morning has a light onshore breeze, and the combined energy is moderate (388). We've got a 2ft swell from the SSW with a long period of 17 seconds. That's a groundswell, which is a positive, but it's still small and the conditions are described as marginal at best. Even then, the wind turns cross-on in the afternoon, so it's a brief, iffy window.
There's another slight chance on Friday, September 4th. The morning has an onshore wind again, with a 2ft swell from the SSW at a very long period of 18 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (319). Again, it's just a fleeting moment before the afternoon wind ruins it.
Truth is, this is a period for cleaning the wax off your board and watching the horizon. The water temperature is about 70°F, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year, but that's about the only highlight. The setup is a beach and reef, so with the persistent cross-on winds and tiny, long-period swell, it's just not offering anything for a paddle surfer. This blank run is more normal for the area during these late summer doldrums. Forecasts can change, but for now, I wouldn't hold your breath.
Rusty.
