Terrigal Haven Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G'day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – we’re looking at a long, lean stretch ahead at Terrigal Haven. For the next week and a half, it’s mostly a write-off, with hardly anything that gets the heart pumping. We’ll see a bit of a pulse towards the end of the second week that could be worth setting the alarm for, but you’ll need patience.

The first real sniff of anything rideable doesn’t come until Wednesday morning, September 2nd. Even then, it’s just small, knee-high waves – 2 ft – with a 10-second period from the south. The morning has a clean cross-offshore breeze, but the energy is weak (116). By the afternoon, it goes glassy, which is nice, but the swell’s still tiny (137). It’s a paddle, not a session.

Thursday, September 3rd, is a complete dud. Friday the 4th starts with a glassy 3 ft south swell, 10-second period, and the energy picks up a bit (233), but it’s ordinary at best. The weekend gets blown out. Honestly, you’re better off doing something else.

Then, on Sunday morning, September 6th, we get a jump. A clean 6 ft south swell with a 10-second period rolls in, and the energy jumps to a solid 637. That’s a strong surge of juice, and with a clean cross-offshore wind, the point could have some proper lines running down it. This is our first real standout – get on it early, because the wind swings onshore by the afternoon. For the experienced crew only; 6 ft at this break will push through the channel.

Now, here’s the one that’s got me talking. On Friday morning, September 11th, we’ve got a solid 8 ft south swell, 10-second period, and it’s absolutely glassy calm with light rain clearing. The energy reading is massive – 1398 – that’s serious power. This is for experts only; the size and energy will be heavy, and it could get a bit straight on the beach if you’re not careful, but with offshore winds and that much swell wrapping in, Terrigal Haven could absolutely fire. It’s a long-range call, so don’t book the week off yet, but mark it in the calendar.

Water temp is around 64°F, which is pretty much normal for this time of year. Not too chilly, not too warm.

The rest of the fortnight is filled with tiny, blown-out, or just ordinary junk. Crowds are a perpetual possibility here – it’s a popular spot, and when it’s good, it’ll be busy.

So, bottom line: Sunday the 6th is your first legit look, and Friday the 11th could be the big one. Everything else is a waiting game.
