The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Terrigal Haven.
Right now, the water’s sitting at 65°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year. Nothing wild there.
The next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a slow start. Thursday the 16th has some swell, but it’s messy with a strong cross-off breeze and the combined energy is moderate (664). Not worth getting wet for. Friday the 17th is tiny and weak, with energy dropping right off (143). Saturday the 18th is a bit of a nothing burger too, with weak, short-period windswell.
Sunday the 19th is the first real glimmer of hope. The swell picks up to 6ft from the east, with a period of 10 seconds, giving it a solid groundswell feel. The combined energy is moderate to strong (733). The wind is cross, so it’ll be a bit bumpy, but it’s surfable. Let’s call it a Sunday session for the keen.
Now, Monday the 20th morning is a real standout. We’ve got a clean 5ft easterly swell with a 10-second period, and the wind is glassy. That’s a beautiful combination. The energy is strong (641). This is easily the best session of the first week. Tuesday the 21st morning is also glassy, with a 5ft ENE swell – another great window for clean waves.
The real firecracker is further out. Friday the 24th afternoon is a beast. The swell jumps to 8ft from the south, with an 11-second period. The combined energy is massive (2582). That’s a powerful, long-period groundswell. The wind is light and cross-off, making it clean. This is expert territory – that size and power is not for the faint-hearted. For experienced surfers, this is the absolute standout of the entire forecast. The morning of the 24th also has a 6ft SSW swell with strong offshore winds, but it’s a shorter period (7 seconds), so it’s a different beast.
The end of the month looks promising again. Tuesday the 29th afternoon has a clean 5ft S swell with a moderate offshore wind. And Friday the 31st morning is a gem: 6ft S swell with glassy conditions and strong energy (970). That’s another top pick for a clean, solid session.
The main thing to watch at Terrigal Haven is the swell direction. The spot loves a south-east swell, and the best days align with that. The long-period south swells on the 24th and 31st will be perfect for this point break, offering clean, lined-up waves.
Crowds? This spot is ‘often’ busy, so expect company, especially on those standout days.
Rusty.
