The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what we've got cooking for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, it's pretty flat. We're looking at a long dry spell to kick things off. From today until the 18th of July, there's really nothing worth getting wet for. A tiny 0.3ft S swell with a long period of 20 seconds is just not enough to push through, and the wind is all wrong anyway. It's a proper lull.
Things start to get a pulse around the 19th. Sunday morning the 19th, we see some swell starting to build, hitting 6ft from the East with a 10-second period. It's a bit onshore, so it'll be lumpy, but the combined energy is moderate at 658. It’s a slow start, but the energy is there.
The real standout window is kicking off on the morning of Thursday the 23rd of July. That is your window. Copacabana Point is looking at a solid 5ft of groundswell from the East with a very long 13-second period, and the wind is glassy out of the WNW. That means clean, lined-up sets. The combined energy is strong, hitting 907, so there's plenty of push. This is a beautiful intermediate wave, but that long period stuff will really shine on the point. It’s a point break, so it should hold shape beautifully. Be warned, though: crowds are often an issue here, so get out early.
The next morning, Friday the 24th of July, is another cracker. We’ve got 5ft of East swell at 11 seconds, with a light offshore breeze from the WNW. The energy is moderate at 583, but the clean conditions will make it feel much better. Another excellent morning for the point.
After that, the wind turns sour for the weekend, and the swell gets a bit bigger and messy. By the 25th and 26th, you'll see 5ft from the East with a 12 second period, but South-Southwest winds at 16 mph and stronger will chop it up. The energy is strong, hitting 770, but the quality is gone. It might be more interesting for the kite crew than for us.
So, to sum it up: we’ve got a long wait, but the 23rd and 24th of July are the clear winners. Glassy and clean, with proper swell from the East at a point break that handles it. Don't sleep on it.
Stay salty.
Rusty.
