The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and here’s how it’s looking for our local stretch.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is pretty flat and quiet. We’ve got a real slow start here. The first few days from Friday the 21st through to Tuesday the 25th are mostly tiny, weak dribble with hardly any energy in the water. There’s nothing worth paddling out for until we hit Sunday morning the 23rd, when a little pulse of 3ft S swell shows up with glassy conditions at Nobbys Reef. It’s still very ordinary, but at least it’s clean. That said, the swell energy is still weak at just 176, so don’t expect much push.
We do get a few more small windows – Monday morning the 24th is clean with 3ft S swell, and Wednesday the 26th has offshore winds but the swell is weak and short-period. Nothing really gets going until Thursday the 27th, when the swell jumps up to 5ft from the south, with moderate energy (610) and clean morning conditions. That’s the first real chance for a proper session, but it’s still a bit raw and choppy in the afternoon.
Friday the 28th is probably the standout in this whole run. Morning offshore NW wind at 12 mph, clean 4ft S swell, and decent energy at 245 – it’s not huge, but it’ll be shaped up nicely. The afternoon goes glassy with a light offshore breeze, 3ft swell, and clean conditions. That’s the one to aim for.
After that, things get messy. Saturday the 29th is a write-off with strong southerly winds and rain, and Sunday the 30th sees 7 to 8ft E swell, but with onshore winds and huge energy (1375) – that’s only for experts, and even then it’ll be a battle. The following week stays small and mediocre, with a brief glimmer on Thursday the 3rd of September when 4ft S swell and clean offshore winds give us one more shot at some fun waves.
Water temps are about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Overall, Friday the 28th is your best bet. Get it while it’s clean.
