Table - best surf conditions forecast for Nobbys Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. We’ve got a tricky 16-day window ahead, with a real mix of clean windows and some wild, blown-out chaos. The first few days offer the best bet for quality, so don’t sleep on the early call.
Nobbys Reef is the only spot on the menu, and it’s a reef break that’s exposed to the SE swell. It’s an advanced wave, and it’s inconsistent, so it’s a spot for the crew who know the take-off. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no need to dig out the thickest rubber just yet.
The best surf of the whole period kicks off Friday the 10th. Dawn patrol is looking magic with a 6ft SE swell, a 10-second period, and a light W wind keeping it cross-off. The combined energy is solid at 527, and it’s clean. Friday afternoon goes glassy with a light S breeze. That’s the pick of the entire run.
Saturday the 11th holds up nicely, with a dropping 4ft SE swell in the morning under a clean NW offshore, then a 3ft ESE swell in the arvo with the wind still offshore from the NNW. It’s smaller, but still clean and fun.
Then we hit a dry spell. Sunday the 12th through to Thursday the 17th is a write-off – the wind goes onshore or cross-onshore, the swell gets messy, and on the 15th and 16th it’s a solid 8ft to 10ft with strong cross-onshore wind. That’s a no-go for paddling, though if you’re into kite surfing, the setup on the 15th and 16th with that strong SW wind and size would be more interesting.
There’s a big, raw swell spike on Friday the 17th – a 13ft SE groundswell with a 12-second period, but the wind is onshore from the SSE. That’s massive, messy, and only for the crazy brave. The energy reading is 4287, which is huge, but the quality is poor.
Saturday the 18th is a strange one. The morning is still too big at 8ft, and it’s a bit lumpy. The afternoon drops to 10ft SE, but it goes glassy. The problem is the swell is predicted to be too big for this break, so it’s likely just a washing machine, even for the experts.
Now, the real standout for the second week is Sunday the 19th. The morning session is proper. A 8ft ESE swell, a very long 12-second period, light NNW winds giving a cross-off breeze. The energy is a massive 1796, and it’s described as excellent for experienced surfers. This is a big, powerful reef wave, so only the keenest advanced crew should be out there. The long period means the sets will be clean and powerful, but the gaps between sets will be longer.
Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st back off to a more manageable 4ft to 4ft SE swell, with clean conditions making for a nice, mellow drop in size.
The run finishes with a few solid, clean mornings. Friday the 24th has a 7ft SE swell, clean, and then Saturday the 25th is a real beauty – a 5ft to 6ft ESE swell, light offshore NW wind in the morning, and light cross-off in the arvo. It’s clean, consistent for the spot, and the energy is respectable. That’s a great way to end the outlook.
So, to wrap it up: if you want the best, you paddle out at dawn on Friday the 10th or on the Sunday the 19th for the big stuff. The weeks in between are mostly a windy mess, so pick your days wisely.
Rusty.
