Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's size up Nobbys Reef for the next couple of weeks.
First off, the water's about 66°, which is dead-on average for the time of year – no surprises.
Right now, we've got a big dry spell ahead. From today straight through to Wednesday, July 8th, there's not a single session worth paddlin' out for. The swell is pumpin' – we're talkin' 10 to 12 feet from the south and SSE – but the wind is a total mess, blowin' cross-on at 15 to 19 mph. That's a choppy, lumpy disaster. The energy numbers are huge – 2146 to 4217 – but that's just raw grunt with no shape. This is kite-surf territory, not paddle-surf.
Come Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th, it's still pretty average. Swell drops to about 7 to 8 feet, but the wind stays cross or cross-on, and the waves are only marginal. The energy is still solid – around 885 to 1748 – but the conditions won't let you enjoy it.
Now, Friday the 10th is where we finally get a little window. Friday morning, the wind swings to a light cross-off from the WSW at just 3 mph, and that's a beauty. The swell is 6 feet from the SE with a period of 9 seconds – not super long, but the energy is still moderate at 554. The forecast says "expect very good surf conditions," and that's the best we've got. The wind will keep it clean. This is an advanced reef, and it's inconsistent, so don't expect a crowd, but you might see a few locals.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, the swell fades. Saturday morning has 4 feet with a light cross-off from the W, but by Sunday it's down to 3 feet. The wind is offshore on Sunday from the NNW at 9 mph, which keeps it glassy, but the waves are just ordinary. Energy drops fast to around 176. This is small-wave stuff.
From Monday the 13th onward, it's a slow bleed. Waves drop below 2 feet, the energy is weak (under 100), and even with offshore winds, there's just nothin' to ride. The last half of the forecast is a flat spell.
So here's the call: Your one and only standout is Friday morning, July 10th. Not huge, but with that glassy cross-off wind and a solid 6-foot SE swell, it's your best shot. Get out early while the wind is light. This reef rarely lines up perfect, so grab it when it does. After that, it's a slow fade to flat.
Rusty, out.
