The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Nobbys Reef. This is a reef break, advanced territory, and it’s inconsistent – it doesn’t fire often, so when it does, you want to be on it. The forecast kicks off from Sunday 19 July, but honestly, the first few days are a write-off. Sunday and Monday have onshore winds and poor conditions, with combined swell energy around 900 (moderate) on Sunday morning, dropping to 700s Monday, but it’s all messy. You’d be wasting your time.
Tuesday 21 July morning brings a glimmer: clean, cross-offshore wind, 3.6ft east swell, 10s period, energy only 319 (weak). Small and clean, but nothing to write home about. Wednesday and Thursday are even smaller, with energy dropping into the 100s. The surf is there but ordinary.
Now, Friday 24 July morning – that’s the first real standout. The swell picks up to 4.9ft from the south, 10s period, cross-offshore wind, clean conditions. Combined energy hits 438 (moderate). It’s not huge, but for a reef that loves south swell, this is a solid window. The waves will have shape, and the offshore wind will keep them glassy. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so you might have company, but it’s worth it.
Saturday 25 July morning has a tiny 2.0ft south-southeast swell but with a very long 18s period – that’s proper groundswell. Energy 461 (moderate) despite the size. On a reef, that long period can make the waves stand up nicely
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Very mild (max 17°C on Sat night, min 13°C on Mon night). Wind will be generally light. | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryLight rain (total 2mm), mostly falling on Thu night. Warm (max 21°C on Wed afternoon, min 11°C on Thu night). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the SW on Thu afternoon, light winds from the NE by Fri afternoon). | ||||||||||||||||||
