Table - best surf conditions forecast for Nobbys Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Nobbys Reef. This spot is an advanced reef break, and it’s inconsistent. So when it fires, it’s a proper session, but don’t expect it to be pumping all the time.
The near-term window is where the action is. The water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is pretty much average for this time of year. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
The standout session is hands down Friday morning, the 10th of July. We’ve got a solid 6ft swell from the SE, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (527). The wind is a light 3 mph cross-off from the W, which is going to keep the surface glassy and clean. This is the best on offer—expect very good surf conditions. The SE direction is a good match for the break, so the lines should be holding up nicely. Keep in mind it’s inconsistent, so you’ll have to wait for the sets, but they’ll be worth it. Crowds are possible, so get in early.
Saturday morning, the 11th of July, sees a drop in size to 4ft from the SE, but we get a nice offshore wind from the NW at 9 mph. The combined energy is moderate (375). It’s clean and offshore, making for a fun, smaller session. The period drops to 9 seconds, but the quality should still be there for the advanced crew.
Sunday, the 12th of July, the surf drops off quickly. By the morning you’re looking at 3ft from the SE, but the wind goes cross-off and picks up to 16 mph, making it a bit of a struggle. The afternoon flattens out to 2ft. Not worth paddling out.
From Monday, the 13th of July, through to Thursday, the 16th of July, the surf is mostly flat or blown out. There’s a pulse on Wednesday morning with 5ft from the S, but it’s cross-on and choppy. Thursday sees a similar size but with cross-shore winds and a messy surface. This stretch is a write-off.
After a long gap, things start to look better again from Saturday, the 18th of July. The morning brings a 5ft swell from the E with a 10-second period and a light cross-off breeze from the SW. The combined energy is moderate (447). It’s clean and surfable. The E direction is a little off the optimum, but it’ll still work.
Sunday, the 19th of July, is another solid option for the second week. 4ft from the E, 10 seconds, and a lighter offshore wind from the N at 6 mph. It’s clean and glassy on the surface. A good one to pencil in, but long-range forecasts are always a bit less certain.
Monday, the 20th of July, holds similar energy with 4ft from the E, and a cross-off breeze from the N. The afternoon actually looks better with a W wind keeping it clean. Consistency is a question mark, but the conditions are favorable.
The rest of the forecast into the 25th of July is a mix of small, clean surf and periods of very ordinary conditions. The 23rd of July afternoon looks glassy with a 2ft swell, but it’s pretty small. Nothing to get too excited about.
Overall, Friday the 10th of July is the clear winner. Saturday the 11th is a backup. The second week has some potential, but it’s a wait-and-see game.
Rusty.
