Table - best surf conditions forecast for Nobbys Reef over the next 16 days.
Right, grab a coffee and listen up. This is a tough one to call. Right now, for the next 16 days, the surf options are pretty much non-existent. Don't get your hopes up just yet. We're looking at a long, dry spell before anything remotely rideable shows up.
The main break in the picture is Nobbys Reef. It's an advanced reef setup that's inconsistent, meaning it needs a lot of things to line up. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days are a write-off. Monday the 13th through to the end of the week is just tiny, weak swell with poor conditions. The combined energy is pitiful, sitting at 26, and you're looking at ankle-snappers.
We've got a pulse of stronger swell coming through Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th, with a spike of energy hitting 2096, but the wind is a mess. It's cross or cross-on, and the period is short, around 8-10 seconds, making for lumpy, choppy waves. That 8ft to 8ft swell is only for the experts, and even then, the conditions are so poor it's not worth the paddle.
Things get a little more interesting much later. After a long gap with very little to recommend, we get a glimmer of hope on Tuesday the 21st. The early morning and afternoon look *glassy* with a light wind, and the swell is a clean 4ft from the east. The combined energy is moderate at 302. This is the best on offer, but it's still a far cry from pumping. The optimum swell direction is SE, and this is coming from the east, so it's not a perfect match for the reef.
The following week sees a few more clean windows, like Wednesday the 22nd morning with a light offshore wind, and Monday the 27th morning with a clean, cross-off wind. The swell stays small, around 3ft, but the periods get longer, up to 12 seconds, suggesting some groundswell energy. This is better for the reef, but with such small heights, it's not going to be a standout.
Honestly, the standout in this whole forecast is the glassy conditions on Tuesday the 21st. It's a small window, but if you're desperate and the tide is right, that's your best shot. For the rest of the time, the wind is just too messy, or the swell is too small to bother. It's a bleak run.
