Alright, Rusty here, let's get into it.
We've got a bit of a mixed bag coming up. The first few days are looking pretty rough with onshore winds and building swell, but there's a sweet spot from Thursday through to the weekend that's got some potential. After that, we'll see a bit of a lull before a big pulse of swell comes through, but it might be too much of a good thing.
The standout is going to be Nobbys Reef on Thursday morning, July 9th. It's a reef break, exposed to the SE swell, and that morning we're looking at clean 5ft waves from the ESE with a long 11-second period. The wind is light cross-offshore, which is going to keep things tidy. The combined swell energy is moderate (899). The water is sitting at 66°, which is about average for this time of year. This is definitely the pick of the first week.
The action really starts to pick up on Thursday afternoon, July 9th, when it goes glassy with 6ft from the SE, still with that long period (10 seconds). That's going to be a fun session.
Friday morning, July 10th, is also a good call. Clean 5ft from the SE, period at 9 seconds, with a light cross-offshore breeze. The swell energy is a bit lower (530), but it's still quality.
Heading into the weekend, Saturday morning, July 11th, has clean 4ft from the SE with a gentle offshore wind from the NW. It's smaller, but it's clean. The swell energy is weak (333). This break is inconsistent, so you'll need to be patient, but it'll be worth it when a set comes through.
After the weekend, the swell drops right off. From Sunday afternoon through to Thursday, July 16th, it's a real struggle. We're looking at tiny, weak swell with poor conditions. There's a few days there with surfable waves, but they're ordinary. This is a blank stretch of about 4-5 days where you're better off doing something else.
Now, looking further out, there's a big pulse forecast for the following week. Friday, July 17th is a serious standout. The morning is showing excellent conditions for experienced surfers. We're getting a 7ft swell from the S with a long 11-second period. The wind is light offshore from the NNE, so it's going to be clean. The combined swell energy is strong (1065). This is a proper groundswell, and it's going to be powerful at the reef. It's a long-range call, so it's promising but less certain.
The next morning, Saturday, July 18th, is still good with 5ft from the SSE and a clean offshore wind. Then Sunday, July 19th, morning looks very good with 5ft from the SE and a 12-second period, which is a very long period, and clean offshore winds. The energy is moderate (811).
Then on Monday, July 20th, the swell builds again. The afternoon has 4ft from the S, but it's the Tuesday, July 21st that's the big one. The forecast is for 12ft from the S with a 10-second period. The wind is favorable, but that swell is predicted to be too big for this break. This is for experts only, and even then, it's a lot. The combined energy is very strong (3706). The afternoon is still oversized at 10ft. This is a serious event, but it's a long way out.
So, to sum it up: the best windows are Thursday morning, July 9th, through the weekend, and then the following Friday, July 17th, and Sunday, July 19th, are the ones to circle on the calendar. Keep an eye on that big swell on the 21st, but don't get too excited unless you're a seasoned pro.
Rusty.
