Alright, Rusty here.
Let’s talk about Nobbys Reef. This is a tricky reef break, inconsistent and for advanced surfers only. Not a beginner spot.
The window opens on Saturday, July 4th. Early morning you’ll see a 3ft swell from the south with a 12-second period (290 combined energy), so that’s a proper groundswell. The wind is a light cross-off from the WNW at 3 mph, which will keep things glassy. This is the real standout of the first week. Just remember it might be inconsistent and crowds can pop up now and then.
Sunday the 5th is a mess. The swell bumps up to 8ft out of the south, but the wind is onshore and lumpy (1674 combined energy). Skip it. Monday and Tuesday are the same story – choppy and poor.
Wednesday, July 8th morning is your next real winner. You’ve got a clean 7ft southeast swell (952 combined energy) with a light cross-off breeze from the southwest. The period is 10 seconds, so it’ll be a solid, fun wave.
Looking into the second week, Wednesday, July 15th shows some promise. A 6ft south swell (647 combined energy) with a gentle offshore wind. It’s cleaner, but not a standout.
Then, Thursday, July 16th brings a massive 10-12ft swell from the SSE with a 13-second period. The combined energy is huge at 3947, very strong. But the guidance says it’s just too big for this spot. Even with clean offshore winds, that’s for experts only.
After that, Friday the 17th looks decent for the experienced crew. A 7ft south swell (1394 combined energy) with a 12-second period and cross-off winds – it’s calling for "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." But Saturday the 18th gets blown out by a fresh SE wind and a messy 10ft swell.
So, the best bets are Saturday morning, July 4th for a clean smaller groundswell, and Wednesday morning, July 8th for a bigger, clean southeast swell. The second week has a bit of promise for experts around the 15th-17th, but it’s a longer-range gamble.
Keep it between the flags.
Rusty.
