Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cowrie Hole over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your stick, let's talk about what's coming up at Cowrie Hole. This spot's a reef break, and it's for the advanced crew only – it can get seriously heavy out there. There's a bit of a wait for the good stuff, so let's get into it.
The water is sitting at a pretty normal 66°F for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there.
We've got a bit of a quiet start, but the first real chance to get wet is Thursday morning, July 9th. We're looking at a solid 7ft SE swell, with a 10-second period. The energy is moderate, coming in at 862. The wind is light and cross-offshore, which will keep the surface clean. Honestly, this is likely too big for the average punter, but for the advanced crew, it's a decent shout. The swell direction is matching the spot's optimum, so it should be set up alright. Expect crowds in the water, though – it's a popular spot when it's on.
Friday morning, July 10th, is a bit smaller at 6ft from the SE, with a light cross-offshore breeze. The wave energy is still moderate (527). It's cleaner than Thursday, but the size is a bit more manageable. Still, a solid option for the experienced.
The real standout, the one you want to circle, is Monday morning, July 20th. The swell has dropped back to a clean 5ft from the SE, with a 10-second period and a moderate wave energy of 694. The wind is glassy and offshore – just about perfect conditions. This is the best on offer in the whole forecast. The break should be clean, and the swell direction is right on the money. It's a proper session waiting to happen.
Later that week, Friday afternoon, July 24th, is also worth a look. We've got a 6ft SE swell, with a clean offshore wind. The energy is moderate (1384) and the conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers. It's a good option for the end of the week.
Now, there's a big gap in the middle. From Saturday, July 11th, right through to Sunday, July 19th, the surf is either too small, too windy, or just plain messy. A lot of those days have strong onshore winds and weak, short-period swell. We even get a massive spike in size on July 16th with an 18ft swell, but it's blowing a gale onshore, so it's a total write-off for paddle surfing – that's kite-surfing territory if anything. The later part of the second week, July 22nd and 23rd, sees a return of big swell (13ft) but with strong winds, making it too big and messy for a good time.
So, to sum it up: if you're advanced and want a challenge, Thursday morning is on. But if you want the best, cleanest, most enjoyable session, hold out for Monday morning, July 20th.
