The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Leggy Point.
First thing to say is, it's a bit of a slow burn. We've got a long stretch of flat to tiny, messy conditions right through the end of August. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, so don't forget the booties for the first few sessions.
The real story here is stacked right at the end of the run. The pick of the whole period, and the one to keep your eye on, is Monday afternoon, 31 August. The wind is forecast to go cross-offshore from the WNW, cleaning things right up, with a solid 6ft swell from the south. The wave energy is ramping up hard – you can feel it in the water, a reading of 755 (moderate energy). It's going to be a proper session.
Then, if you're an experienced surfer, the following morning on Tuesday, 1 September is a beast. The swell is predicted to be a very heavy 12ft from the south, with 11-second periods, but the wind is offshore from the SW. The energy readings are off the charts at 4337 (strong to very strong energy). This is expert territory only – too big for the average punter, and the paddle out will be a mission. It's a long way out, so the confidence is lower, but it's the standout on the cards.
The rest of the window is a write-off. From the 18th through to the 30th of August, there’s virtually nothing rideable. A few tiny glassy mornings on the 19th and 23rd might give you a waist-high dribble, but that's about it. Don't waste your time until that last week hits.
So, to sum it up: wait for the end of August and the start of September. That's where the gold is.
Rusty.
