Table - best surf conditions forecast for Leggy Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way at Leggy Point.
First off, we’ve got a bit of a wait. The surf kicks off on Thursday the 9th, but after that, it’s a real mixed bag. For the next few days, we’re in for a treat with some nice, clean surf. The water temp is pretty much where you’d expect it for this time of year, nothing crazy.
Thursday the 9th morning, we’ve got a solid 7ft swell from the SE, with a 10-second period. Combined energy is moderate at 862 – feels like there’s some proper push behind it. Light rain, but the wind is a gentle offshore from the SW, keeping things clean. This is the standout. Thursday afternoon drops a bit to 6ft, still SE, and the wind goes cross-off, so still good waves on offer.
Friday the 10th keeps the good times rolling. Morning sees 6ft from the SE, with a light cross-off breeze. Clean. Afternoon gets even better – 5ft SE, and the wind goes glassy. That’s about as clean as it gets. This is your window.
Now, Saturday the 11th things start to fall apart. The swell drops to 4ft in the morning with a cross-shore wind, making for a bit of chop. By the afternoon, it’s down to 3ft and the wind is up, so it’s not worth getting excited about. The rest of the week is a write-off – Sunday through the following Wednesday, we’re looking at tiny, weak waves, mostly under 3ft, with energy readings dropping below 100. A lot of cross-off or cross winds, and the swell period is short. Not much to work with.
Thursday the 16th throws in a big jump: a 10ft southerly swell, but with a near-gale blowing. The combined energy is huge at 2927, but the wind is just too strong. That’s a kite surfer’s dream, but for a paddle, it’s a battle. That theme continues through Saturday the 18th – big swell, but brutal winds.
We finally get a little window on Sunday the 19th. Morning is 3ft from the SE with a moderate offshore, clean. Afternoon picks up to 5ft from the SSE, with a gentle offshore and clean conditions. The combined energy is moderate at 283. It’s not the size of the early window, but the wind is right. Good, clean fun.
From Monday the 20th onward, it’s back to small stuff, under 3ft, with cross-off winds. The period for the 20th is a nice long 12 seconds, which would normally be great, but the swell is too small to get excited about. The rest of the run looks flat, with energy readings in the double digits.
So, to wrap it up: Thursday 9th and Friday 10th are your days. Leggy Point on that SE swell with light offshore and glassy winds is the pick of the forecast. The rest of it is either too small, too windy, or both. Also, note that Leggy Point is inconsistent – it doesn’t always fire, so when it does, you jump on it.
Stay on it.
