The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let's break it down for Leggy Point.
First up, the start of the period is a bust. Saturday and Sunday have some swell from the ESE or SE, but it's short-period and weak, and the wind is a messy cross or cross-off at 15-25 mph. Water temp is 66°, right on the money for the season. The energy is low (235), and the forecast reads marginal. Don't bother.
The first real standout is Monday, July 20th. The morning session is glassy, with a light NW breeze at just 3 mph. The swell is a clean 5ft from the east, with a 10-second period. The energy is solid (580). It's an inconsistent break here, so you'll be waiting for the sets, but when they come, they'll be clean. That's your best bet early on.
The rest of the week is patchy. Tuesday and Wednesday get small and onshore. Thursday the 23rd swings a big 8ft southerly swell, but it's got a 22 mph southerly cross-off wind. That's a lot of power (957), but the wind is strong, making it a tough call for most.
Now, Friday, July 24th is the one to circle. The morning has a solid 7ft southerly swell with a 10-second period, and the wind is a clean offshore from the WSW at 9 mph. The energy is very strong (858). This is real groundswell, and with that offshore wind, Leggy Point will be firing. For the experienced crew, this is the session.
Looking further out into the first week of August, Saturday the 1st shows a promising 7ft easterly swell with light southerly winds and strong energy (804). It's a long way off, so don't bank on it yet, but it has potential.
The blank days in the middle are normal for an inconsistent spot like this. You just have to be patient and ready when the window opens.
Rusty.
