Table - best surf conditions forecast for Leggy Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a good hard look at what Leggy Point is cooking up for us over the next couple of weeks. Don’t get too excited just yet, because there’s a bit of a slow patch to sit through before we get any real action.
Right now, we’re in a waiting game. The first solid recommendation doesn’t kick off until Wednesday the 8th of July. That afternoon, a clean 8ft swell rolls in from the SE with a period of 11 seconds. The combined energy is strong, coming in at (1415), and the water temp is a comfortable 66°, which is right about average for this time of year – nothing unusual there. The wind is a cross-off from the south, so the faces should be tidy. This is a decent start, but it’s just the warm-up.
The real standout for the opening run is Thursday morning, July 9th. That’s where the magic happens. We’ve got a glassy 7ft swell from the SE, 10-second period, and that wind is straight offshore from the southwest at only 6 mph. That’s the good stuff – clean, lined-up waves. The energy dips a little to (862) but the quality is top-tier. Thursday afternoon holds similar potential with a light cross-off, so you could surf all day.
Friday the 10th keeps the run going with 5-6ft waves and light breezes, but after that, things go quiet. From Saturday the 11th all the way through to Tuesday the 14th, it’s a flat spell. Swell sizes drop below 3ft and the energy reading falls to three-digit values in the hundreds, then down into double digits. It’s small, messy, and honestly not worth paddling out for.
We get a bit of a break on Wednesday the 15th, but the surf is still tiny. Just as we’re about to write the whole month off, Thursday the 16th of July rolls in with a massive pulse. An 12ft SSE swell with an 8-second period slams in, and the combined energy is a colossal (1462). That’s a lot of water moving. But here’s the catch – 12ft is too big for this setup, guys. The forecast says the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. Unless you’re an absolute gun on a big board, this is a look-and-learn day. Friday and Saturday the 17th and 18th ease back to 8-8ft, but the winds get strong and messy, clocking up to 25 mph. It’s not clean, and it’s not really fun.
The second week shows some hints of life. Sunday the 19th through Monday the 20th has 6-8ft swell, but the wind is cross-shore and lumpy – not the crisp conditions we’re after. But then, hold the phone. Tuesday morning, July 21st. The wind switches to a glassy cross-off from the WNW at only 3 mph, and the swell drops to a manageable 5ft from the SE with an 11-second period. The energy is (556), which is moderate but solid. After a rough week, this is the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s only a morning window, but it looks promising.
Wednesday the 22nd afternoon brings a glassy flat spell with 3ft waves, and by Thursday the 23rd, the energy fades to (109). The last few days are small but clean.
So, to wrap it up: the best bets are Thursday morning July 9th for the cleanest, most surfable waves of the early period, and then keep an eye on Tuesday morning July 21st for a final little treat. Don’t bother with the 16th unless you’re a masochist with a big board.
Stay patient, stay stoked.
Rusty.
