Table - best surf conditions forecast for Leggy Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Leggy Point.
We’ve got a pretty solid run of surf kicking off right now, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The opening days are the real deal, with a clean, punchy swell that’s looking excellent. There’s a shift coming, though, and after a few days of small, messy conditions, we’re looking at a massive pulse of energy. That big swell is going to be way too much for this spot, so it’s a case of picking your windows carefully.
The best of the best is right at the start. Thursday morning, July 9th, is your standout. We’ve got a 7 ft swell rolling in from the SE, with a solid 10-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 862, and with a light offshore wind from the WSW, it’s going to be clean. The water is sitting at 66°, which is pretty much average for this time of year. This is the session to aim for.
Thursday afternoon (July 9th) is still very good, with the swell dropping to 6 ft, but the wind goes light cross-off, keeping it clean. The wave energy is still moderate at 633. Friday morning and afternoon (July 10th) follow the same pattern – 6 ft SE swell, cross-off winds, and clean conditions. The energy is between 527 and 588. It’s all good surf.
Then things fall apart. Saturday morning (July 11th) drops to 3 ft from the ESE with a longer 12-second period, but the wind goes cross, and the energy drops to 419. The quality is marginal. Saturday afternoon is worse – 3 ft with a cross-shore breeze and poor conditions. Sunday through Tuesday (July 12th-14th) is a write-off, with tiny swell down to 2 ft and strong cross-off winds. There’s a gap of about four days with no real surf on offer.
The energy comes back in a big way, but it’s a problem. From Wednesday, July 15th, the swell starts to build, but it’s accompanied by howling winds. By Thursday, July 16th, we’re looking at a massive 16 ft to 18 ft SSE swell, with a combined energy of 5427 to 7634 – that’s very strong energy. The winds are strong cross-shore, making it a mess. This trend continues through Friday and Saturday (July 17th-18th), with 15 ft to 16 ft swell and lumpy cross-chop. The finder notes say the wind and tide are favorable, but the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. This is expert-only territory, and honestly, with the wind and size, it’s looking more like a kite surfing setup than a paddle session.
Sunday, July 19th, the swell drops to 10 ft, but it’s still cross-shore and lumpy. Things finally improve on Monday, July 20th. The swell is down to a manageable 5 ft from the SE, and the wind goes glassy. That’s a great window, with clean waves and a combined energy of 694. Tuesday (July 21st) is back to small, cross-shore junk at 4 ft.
Looking into the second week (July 22nd-24th), we’re seeing another big pulse. Wednesday, July 22nd, sees a 13 ft SSE swell, but it’s too big and the wind is strong cross-off. Thursday, July 23rd, has a 10 ft ESE swell with strong offshore winds, but it’s still too big for Leggy. Friday, July 24th, shows a drop to 7 ft from the ESE, but it’s cross-shore and marginal. That’s a promising one for the long-range, but it’s a bit uncertain.
Alright, that’s the story. Make the most of that Thursday and Friday window, and give the big stuff a miss.
Rusty.
