Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s heading our way. We’ve got a big pulse of southerly swell pushing in, but it’s going to be a wild ride with a lot of size. The standout here is Leggy Point, and it’s not for the faint-hearted. The water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
We kick things off on Sunday, July 5th. The swell is a solid 10ft from the south, with a period around 11-12 seconds, and the combined energy is pumping at 2146. That’s strong stuff. The wind is a fresh cross-off from the SSW at 18 mph, and while the conditions are clean, the sheer size makes this one for experienced surfers only. Beginners, stay on the beach for this one. It’s the same story through Sunday afternoon and into Monday—size hangs around 8-10ft, but the wind stays cross-off, and the energy stays high. By Tuesday, July 7th, it gets even bigger: 12ft from the SSE with a combined energy of 4217. That’s proper heavy. The wind remains cross-off, and the morning session on Wednesday, July 8th is where it gets interesting. The swell drops to 8ft from the SE at 11 seconds, but we get a full offshore wind from the SSW at 15 mph. That’s the best call of the whole run: clean, powerful, and still big enough for a thrill. The combined energy is 1664, so there’s plenty of grunt. This is for experts, no doubt.
From Thursday, July 9th, the size backs off a touch. You’re looking at 7ft from the SE, periods around 10 seconds, and light winds. The energy drops to 885, but conditions are very good. It’s still a solid wave, and more manageable. Friday, July 10th, is similar: 6ft from the SE, with periods of 9-10 seconds, and the wind goes glassy offshore from the WSW at just 3 mph in the morning. That’s going to be silky smooth. Energy is around 554, and it’s a good, clean day for intermediate crew.
After that, it’s a steady fade. Saturday, July 11th drops to 4ft from the SE, and by Sunday, July 12th we’re down to 3ft from the ESE. The wind gets messy and cross-onshore, and the energy plummets to 176. From Monday, July 13th onwards, it’s all small, poor surf. Wave heights drop below 2ft, and energy sinks under 100. We’ve got a long, flat stretch of days—Monday through to the end of the outlook on Monday, July 20th. There are a few moments of glassy or offshore winds, but the swell just isn’t there. It’s a blank run for the second week, and that’s pretty normal for this spot when the southerly pulses die out.
So, the standout is Wednesday, July 8th morning at Leggy Point. Clean, offshore, and powerful. Get on it if you’ve got the skills. After that, it’s a slow wind-down into flatness. Keep an eye on the forecasts, though—things can turn around quick.
Rusty.
