Table - best surf conditions forecast for Leggy Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your board. Rusty here, and I’ve just chewed through the charts for Leggy Point. It’s a mixed bag for the next 16 days, so let’s get into it.
The First Week (July 11 – July 17)
Right off the bat, we have a pretty grim start. The surf is tiny and messy through Saturday and Sunday (July 11-12) with wobbly knee-high slop. The water temp is sitting at a fairly average 66°F, nothing unusual for this time of year. The beginning of the following week (July 13-14) is nearly bone dry, with swell dropping off a cliff and the wind turning it into a washing machine. That’s a long stretch of flatness or close-outs.
Then Monday, July 15 rolls around, and things get interesting. The morning picks up a raw 6ft swell from the south, but with a fresh 21 mph cross-off shore wind, it’s going to be messy. The afternoon, though, is a different beast. That same wind cleans up a huge 10ft south swell with a solid 11-second period. The combined energy hits 1885 – that’s serious grunt – but the catch is, for this exposed beach-and-reef setup at Leggy Point, it’s predicted to be too big for the break. That’s expert-only territory, and even then, you’re threading a needle.
The standout of this first week is undeniably Thursday, July 16. The swell eases to a clean 7ft from the SSE, and the wind goes light and cross-off. It’s still a chunk of swell, so keep it for the experienced crew, but the conditions are expected to be very good with clean faces. The combined energy (899) is that sweet spot for power without being terrifying. This is our best bet for a proper session in the first seven days.
The Second Week (July 18 – July 26)
Heading into the weekend of July 18-19, the swell drops to a consistent 5ft from the ESE with clean, light winds Saturday afternoon. The energy is still moderate (487-568), making for long, rideable walls. Saturday looks solid. Sunday morning is marred by marginal tide questions, but it’s still surfable.
The big news, however, is the second major pulse. Wednesday, July 22 through Thursday, July 23 brings another deep south swell. The Wednesday afternoon wave kicks up to a massive 10ft (energy 3425!), which is again too big for this break – experts only, and even then, be wary. But the morning of the 23rd is a true highlight: a 8ft south swell, light cross-off wind, and energy sitting at 1675. The afternoon turns glassy with a 7ft south groundswell. This is the premium window for those who can handle it. After that, the week tapers off into smaller but still clean waves through the 24th and 25th, though by the 26th it gets messy with onshore chop again.
The Verdict
Honestly, for the average surfer, there’s a lot of waiting here. The early days are a bust. The first real session to circle is Thursday July 16 – it’s not huge, but it’s clean and rideable. For the bigger-wave chargers, the window around Wednesday July 22 to Thursday July 23 is the one. Just be prepared for the size. The last few days (July 24-26) offer a fade-out, but nothing to write home about.
Stay salty.
