The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. The only spot on the radar here is Leggy Point, a beach and reef setup that’s inconsistent and exposed to the south-east. It’s going to be a long wait for anything decent.
Right now, we’re looking at a flat spell to kick things off. Monday and Tuesday are basically a write-off with tiny 0.3 ft south swell and clean but gutless conditions. The water’s sitting at 66°, which is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real pulse arrives on Wednesday the 15th. Wednesday morning sees a 6 ft south swell, period a short 8 seconds, and offshore south-west wind at 16 mph. The combined energy is moderate (430). It’ll be clean, but that short period means the waves won’t have much push. Wednesday afternoon bumps up to 8 ft from the south, period 10 seconds, cross-off wind, and strong energy (1055). That’s the biggest swell of the early window, but the wind is cross-off, not pure offshore, so it’s a bit of a mixed bag. For intermediate surfers, Wednesday afternoon is the pick of the first few days.
Thursday the 16th holds 7 ft to 7 ft south swell with fresh cross-off winds, but the period drops back to 8 seconds, and there’s rain around. The energy is still moderate to strong (577-658), but the quality is marginal. This is more for the dedicated.
Things drop off again Friday and Saturday as the swell fades to 3 ft-5 ft with short period and cross-shore wind. The energy dips to 121-285, and the conditions are poor. Saturday is particularly messy with a cross-chop.
There’s a glimmer on Sunday the 19th: a 6 ft east swell with a 10-second period, cross-shore wind, and strong energy (710). The period is better, but the cross-shore wind keeps it from being clean. Sunday afternoon is similar at 6 ft and 11 seconds. Still, it’s a marginal call.
Monday the 20th is a bust with cross-onshore wind and choppy seas.
Now, the standout window. Tuesday the 21st morning is a game-changer. Glassy conditions, a light 3 mph north-north-west wind, and 4 ft east swell with a 10-second period. The energy is moderate (363), but glassy conditions at Leggy Point are rare. This is the best morning of the entire forecast. The waves will be clean, lined up, and user-friendly. Get in the water early.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is also glassy, with 4 ft east swell, but the real magic might be Wednesday afternoon: 5 ft east swell, 11-second period, cross-off wind, and very good conditions. The energy jumps to 555. That’s a solid afternoon session.
But the real prize is Thursday the 23rd. Thursday morning delivers 6 ft east swell, a 12-second period, offshore south-west wind at 9 mph, and 887 energy. That’s a proper groundswell with clean, offshore conditions. The waves will have power and shape. Thursday afternoon pushes 6 ft with 12-second period, cross-off wind, and very strong energy (1091). This is the best swell of the entire 16-day stretch. The only caveat is that long-period east swell can be a bit straight at beach breaks, but Leggy Point being a reef and beach setup, it should handle it well. Intermediate and above will love it.
After that, the swell slowly fades into the end of July. Friday the 24th holds 6 ft with 12-second period but cross-shore wind. Saturday the 25th is choppy and onshore. Then Sunday the 26th morning brings a surprise: 5 ft east swell, 12-second period, offshore west-south-west wind at 6 mph, and clean conditions. Energy is moderate (550). That’s another tidy session for the final weekend.
The rest of the period into the 29th is small, with 3 ft-4 ft east swell and moderate wind, not worth planning around.
The standout: Thursday the 23rd morning and afternoon. That’s the big one. Clean, offshore, strong groundswell with 6 ft-6 ft and 12-second period. For the glassy lovers, Tuesday the 21st morning is a must.
If you’re a beginner, anything over 5 ft is pushing it, and over 8 ft is expert-only. The 8 ft on Wednesday the 15th afternoon is top-end intermediate. The 6 ft-6 ft on the 23rd is solid but manageable for confident intermediates.
