Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here with the lowdown on Leggy Point. We've got some solid action coming up, but you gotta know where to look.
First up, Monday, July 6th is a dud. You got chest-to-head high swell (8 ft), but the wind's all wrong from the SSE at 15 mph with light rain. The energy is ripping (1427), but the conditions are messy.
Tuesday, July 7th is a case of too much power. The swell builds from the SSE, hitting 10 ft in the morning and going over 11 ft in the afternoon. The energy is absolutely pumping (2179 and 2586). Wind is okay, but this is strictly for the pros who can handle a beating.
Now, Wednesday, July 8th is the one for the experienced crew. The swell drops to a solid 8 ft from the SE, but the wind goes offshore from the SSW at 12 mph in the morning. That will glass it up. Energy is still huge (1782). This is a serious, powerful wave for those who know what they're doing.
Thursday, July 9th is the most user-friendly day of the first week. The swell drops to 5 ft from the ESE, and the morning wind is a light offshore from the SW at only 6 mph. The energy is moderate (899). The afternoon goes glassy with a 6 ft SE swell. That's about as clean as it gets. Water temp is 66°, which is average for the season.
After that, the tap turns off. Friday, July 10th is still clean but the swell fades. From Saturday, July 11th right through the middle of the month, it goes flat. Swell drops to 3 ft or less, and the energy numbers fall into the low hundreds. It's gonna be a long, quiet stretch with no real surf from that Saturday through the next few days.
Thursday, July 16th afternoon shows a bump of 5 ft from the S, but the period is a weak 6 seconds - just wind slop. Friday, July 17th sees a spike of 7 ft from the S, but it's cross-onshore.
The big finish is Tuesday, July 21st. Another massive pulse from the S, with a 11 ft swell in the morning and a combined energy reading of 3706. That's a huge ocean. Afternoon swell is still 10 ft. All expert territory.
So, my advice: if you’ve got the nerve, Wednesday the 8th morning is a standout for power. For the best all-around session, target Thursday the 9th morning for clean, head-high waves. Everything else in between is either too flat, too big, or blown out.
Rusty.
