Table - best surf conditions forecast for Leggy Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Leggy Point has cookin’ over the next couple weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: the first few days are pretty flat and not worth paddlin’ out. Saturday the 11th through most of the following week are a write-off for any decent surf. We’re lookin’ at weak little waves – mostly under 3 ft – with messy cross-shore winds and low energy. That combined energy reading barely breaks 300 for the first few days, and on the 14th it’s down to a measly 8 (eight!), so you’re better off checkin’ the tide pools.
By Wednesday the 15th morning, we finally get a pulse – 3 ft from the south, period 10 seconds, and offshore wind from the southwest. That’s surfable, but the energy’s still only 130 – it’s ordinary at best. The afternoon picks up to 7 ft from the south, but with cross-off wind. That’s a bit more for an intermediate to play with, but conditions are described as marginal. Thursday the 16th keeps the 6 ft swell from the SSE, but again – only a 1 out of 10 score, with strong wind. Not a standout.
Then the pattern shifts. Friday the 17th through Saturday the 18th see building swell from the east, with the energy climbin’ into the 350-450 range. Saturday the 18th afternoon is 5 ft from the east, 10-second period, light winds, and a decent “expect good surf conditions” note. That’s the first real chance for a clean session.
But hold on – Sunday the 19th blows up. 7 ft from the east, but the morning has a light cross-onshore and the afternoon is straight onshore. Not ideal. Combined energy hits 1118 (strong), but the wind ruins it.
Now here’s the real standout: Monday the 20th afternoon. 7 ft from the east-southeast, period 10 seconds, cross-off breeze from the west-northwest – light wind, clean conditions. Energy is 949 (strong). Score says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is the one to aim for. Swell direction is a touch east of the optimum (SE), but it’s solid and clean.
Then Tuesday the 21st is a double standout. Morning: 7 ft from the east, 11-second period, cross-off wind, energy 1297 (very strong). Afternoon: 7 ft from the east, 13-second period – that’s a long-period groundswell – energy 1482 (very strong). Both windows are rated “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” This is legit. 7 ft is pushin’ into the “only for experts” zone, especially with the long period. At Leggy Point beach-and-reef setup, that long-period east swell could line up nicely.
The swell holds through Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd. Thursday the 23rd afternoon is a gem: glassy conditions (zero wind), 7 ft from the east-southeast, 12-second period, and a massive combined energy of 2170. That’s “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” Unreal potential if the direction locks in.
Into the last week, Friday the 24th keeps the energy high. Afternoon has 8 ft from the southeast, 11-second period, cross-off wind, 1901 energy – another big day for experienced surfers. Saturday the 25th morning is still solid with 6 ft from the southeast, offshore wind, good conditions. By Sunday the 26th, the swell fades back to under 3 ft.
In short: The first week is a dud until the 18th. The true standouts are Monday the 20th afternoon and Tuesday the 21st all day – those are the best on offer. If you’re experienced, Thursday the 23rd afternoon with that glassy, 7 ft, 12-second setup is a special window. Crowds are possible – Leggy Point can get busy when it’s good. The water temp is 66°, right about average for this time of year, so nothin’ unusual there.
Stay patient, pick your days, and paddle smart.
