Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the line for Leggy Point.
First off, the water temp is sitting at 66°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. Now, the big news is that we have a serious pulse of energy on the way, but you're gonna have to be patient.
The surfing kicks off on Tuesday the 7th with a massive SSW swell pushing 12ft and an 11-second period. The combined energy is a whopping 4728, which is incredibly strong. But here's the catch – that's just too much water moving for this spot. It's going to be a washing machine for intermediate paddlers, only for the experts. Wednesday the 8th stays big and powerful with 10ft swell and 3515 energy, but it's still too hefty for most. By Wednesday afternoon, it drops to 8ft, and conditions start to look more marginal.
Now, for the standout window. Thursday the 9th morning is where it's at. The swell drops to a manageable 6ft from the SE (right in the optimum direction) with a 10-second period. The wind goes light offshore (SSW at 10 km/h), and with the combined swell energy at 789, you've got that powerful, pushy wave without the chaos. It'll be clean, punchy, and a hell of a lot of fun for intermediate and above. This is the pick of the first week. Friday the 10th is still solid with 5ft to 5ft and light winds, but it's not as strong as Thursday.
After Friday, it drops right off. From Saturday the 11th through to the 15th, we have a long, flat spell. Swell sizes hover below 3ft with weak energy (mostly under 200), and some days you'll see single-digit energy – that's just no go. Don't bother paddling out.
Then, a second, more advanced swell arrives on Thursday the 16th. We get a 7ft groundswell from the south with a very long 15-second period, packing a punch at 2265 energy. The wind is offshore (SW at 25 km/h), which means good shape. However, with that 15-second period, it could unload a bit too straight for the beach sections. It'll be a proper, powerful, and hollow wave, but this one is strictly for experienced surfers who know the take-off spots. Friday the 17th afternoon offers a more relaxed 5ft from the SSE with light winds, but the big day is definitely the 16th morning.
Overall, the best bet for most is Thursday morning the 9th for clean, solid, and manageable SE swell. For the crew looking for raw power, Thursday morning the 16th is your call, but be ready for a big, long-period south swell.
That's the picture. It fires, then it flatlines, then it fires again. Get it while you can.
Rusty.
