The Lowdown
Right, let’s have a look at Leggy Point (beach and reef). For the next couple weeks, it’s mostly a flat, messy story. Your first real chance to get wet is Thursday August 27th, but don’t get your hopes up – it’s real small. Up until then, winds are cross-on, onshore, or the swell is just pathetic. Swell energy is mostly under 200, weak stuff. So you’re lookin’ at a long, quiet stretch till the end of August.
Thursday August 27th morning: light offshore wind from the SW at 6 mph. Swell is tiny, only 2 ft from the ENE at 8 seconds, with weak energy (74). Clean conditions, but it’s barely surfable – real grovelly.
Saturday August 29th starts off dead glassy – wind from the S at 3 mph. Swell still tiny: 2 ft from the ENE at 8 seconds, energy 100. Surfable but weak. Afternoon cleans up with a light cross-off breeze from the SSE, but again, tiny.
Now the standout: Tuesday September 1st afternoon. Over a week away, so keep that in mind. Winds go glassy from the NNW at 3 mph. Swell picks up to 6 ft from the S at just 7 seconds – short period, so not the cleanest groundswell shape, but the conditions are gonna be perfect. Combined energy hits 402 – moderate. With glassy winds, you’ll get some fun little runners even with the short period.
Then Friday September 4th: big. 12 ft from the SSE at 8 seconds in the morning, 10 ft in the afternoon, with massive energy over 1400 and 1100. Light cross-shore winds, but the forecast warns it’s too big for this break. That’s expert-only territory on a beach and reef setup – raw, lumpy, powerful. Not for beginners.
After that, Saturday September 5th and Sunday September 6th drop to around 3 ft to 5 ft, with clean cross-off winds from the S and SSW, energy moderate (232 to 419). Sunday morning September 6th looks like the best clean, user-friendly session after the big swell.
Water temp? No anomaly given, so just average for the time of year.
Best bet: Tuesday September 1st afternoon with glassy winds and 6 ft S swell. For the brave, Friday September 4th is huge but only for experts. Rest is small and weak. Long dry spell till the 27th.
Stay patient, mate.
