The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, giving you the lowdown in feet and miles per hour.
The outlook for Leggy Point is a bit of a mixed bag. We’re looking at a run of small, poor conditions to start, with a couple of better windows hiding further out. The water temperature is sitting at about 64°F, which is pretty standard for this time of year.
The first real chance for a surf comes on Tuesday, the 25th of August, in the afternoon. It’s not going to set the world on fire. We’ve got a weak, short-period swell coming in from the ENE at 4ft, with a period of just 7 seconds, so the energy is low. The wind is light from the NE, blowing straight onshore, making it a messy, marginal situation. I’d say give it a miss unless you're desperate.
Things start looking a bit more interesting on Wednesday the 26th. The morning shows a clean, offshore breeze from the WSW, which is a major plus. The swell is small though, only 2ft from the ENE with an 8-second period, and the energy is weak. It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
The first standout arrives on Thursday, the 27th of August. Both the morning and afternoon sessions look promising. We’ve got a moderate southerly swell building to 5ft in the morning and 4ft in the afternoon, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is solid. The wind is a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the south, which should keep the surface tidy. This is the best bet in the first week.
Friday the 28th morning offers a glassy session with a small 3ft southerly swell, but the energy is low. It’ll be clean, but don't expect much push.
Now, for the second week, there’s a standout that’s worth watching. On Saturday, the 5th of September, the afternoon looks very promising. A long-period groundswell from the SSE hits, with a period of 20 seconds. The swell height is only 2ft, but the energy is very strong. This long period will mean nice, lined-up waves, but it might break a bit straight on the beach setup here at Leggy Point. The wind is a light, cross-offshore breeze from the WNW, making for clean conditions. This is the best-looking session in the whole forecast, but it’s a long way off, so keep an eye on it.
The next morning, Sunday the 6th of September, has a bigger but messier pulse of 6ft from the SSE, but the period drops to just 7 seconds and the wind is stronger and cross-offshore. It’s likely to be a bit of a washing machine for experts only.
There’s a long stretch of small or blown-out days before and after these few highlights, so pick your windows carefully.
Rusty.
