G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up at Wamberal Beach.
We’ve got a wild ride ahead. The next few days dish up serious size, but the quality’s all over the shop. The standout window is early in the period – Tuesday the 7th and the following Tuesday the 14th – but for very different reasons.
Starting with Tuesday the 7th morning: we’ve got a massive 10ft SSE swell, with a period of 10 seconds and a combined energy reading of 2098 – that’s strong, powerful stuff. The wind’s a cross-off from the SSW at 16 mph, which keeps it clean. But look, at this size, this is strictly for experienced surfers only. Beginners, stay well clear. The afternoon pushes even bigger, 12ft from the SE, energy jumping to 2591, but the wind swings cross-shore at 19 mph, so it’ll get lumpy and chopped up.
Wednesday the 8th drops a notch but still holds some size. Morning shows 8ft SE swell with 9 mph cross-shore wind – that’s marginal, with a score that tells you the tide’s working against it. Afternoon cleans up with a 8ft cross-off setup, but again, the overall call is iffy.
Now, Thursday the 9th morning is where we get a real highlight. Smaller at 4ft from the SSE, 10-second period, combined energy of 678 – moderate, but the conditions are described as very good. Light 9 mph cross-off breeze, clean. This is the best wave of the early run for a wider range of surfers. Not too big, not too small, and clean.
Friday the 10th morning keeps the good run going with 6ft SE swell, 6 mph offshore wind from the WSW, and clean conditions. Energy at 658. Solid.
We then see a slow fade over the weekend. Saturday the 11th is clean with 4ft and offshore winds – rideable but nothing special. Sunday the 12th gets smaller, 3ft to 2ft, and by Monday the 13th it’s tiny, 1ft and dropping. A bit of a lull.
But then Tuesday the 14th afternoon looks magic. Only 3ft from the south, but the period stretches to 11 seconds, energy hits 240, and the wind goes glassy. That’s about as clean as it gets. Perfect for a longboard or a fish.
From there the week holds some OK pulses – Wednesday the 15th morning has 4ft from the south with a 9 mph cross-off, and Thursday the 16th morning pushes 4ft with 12-second period (560 energy) but a stronger 16 mph cross-off. The real kicker comes the following week. Monday the 20th afternoon gets interesting – 6ft south-southeast swell, 8-second period, but combined energy of 826, clean cross-off. That’s solid.
Then Tuesday the 21st morning is absolute beast mode: 16ft from the south, 12-second period, combined energy of 13376 – that’s extreme. This is a very powerful, very large swell. Again, experts only, and even then, it’s a serious paddle. Wednesday the 22nd morning still pumps 12ft south swell with clean offshore 3 mph wind, but again, too big for the average surfer.
The water temp is about average for this time of year – no major anomaly to report.
The best bet for a good, clean, manageable wave is Thursday the 9th morning. Swell at 4ft from the SSE, light cross-off wind, clean. For those chasing a glassy, smaller session, Tuesday the 14th afternoon is the pick.
All in all, plenty of action, but you’ve got to pick your moments. The big stuff is for the brave.
Rusty.
