The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Wamberal Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a pretty grim start. For the first week and a half, we're looking at a whole lot of nothing. The swell is tiny, the wind is all over the shop, and the odd bit of energy that shows up is messy. You’ll be staring at a lot of knee-high slop with cross-shore chop. There's a real stretch of poor conditions from now until the end of August, with the odd morning that's clean but has absolutely no push. The water temp is sitting at 64°F which is pretty normal for the time of year.
The first real glimmer of hope comes right at the start of September. Tuesday the 1st is the standout. The early morning session is the one to go for. We've got a clean 3ft swell from the south, bumping up to a moderate wave energy (209), and the wind is a light offshore out of the west-southwest. That's going to give you some clean, workable lines. It's not a bomb, but it's the best thing on offer by a long shot. The swell period is a nice 11 seconds, so there's a bit of push behind it. Expect a few others out there, as crowds can be a thing here.
Then, looking way out, into the first week of September, there's a bit more promise. Saturday the 5th afternoon is worth keeping an eye on. We've got a moderate offshore wind (12 mph) from the west, cleaning up a 4ft swell from the east-northeast. The energy is solid (208) and the forecast is calling for good surf conditions. It's a long way off, so don't book the week off just yet, but it's a sign that things might start waking up.
So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is a write-off. The best bet is the dawn patrol on Tuesday the 1st of September. After that, keep an eye on the 5th of September for a potential afternoon sesh.
Rusty.
