Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for our stretch of coast. Straight up, it’s a quiet period ahead. The next few days are offering very little in the way of rideable waves. Most of the time we’re looking at tiny, weak swells that barely register, with next to no energy behind them. We’ve got a long stretch of small-to-flat conditions stretching from now through mid-July, with only a few glimmers of something vaguely surfable. The water temp is sitting at 58°F, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year.
Sandsend Bay is the only break on the cards. The first real whisper of a wave comes on Wednesday morning, July 8th, with a small 2ft swell from the north, period around 8 seconds, and cross-offshore winds that’ll keep the surface tidy. The combined energy is still weak at 37, so don’t expect much push. That Wednesday afternoon turns a bit onshore from the east, so the fun is short-lived. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th stay small with onshore or cross-onshore winds, making for messy, uninviting conditions. The swell direction is coming from the north and north-northeast, which is bang on the optimum direction for this spot, so the shape should line up when there’s enough water moving through.
The best of a very average run looks to be Saturday morning, July 11th. We’ve got 1ft from the north-northeast, a short 7-second period, but the wind is glassy – dead calm – so it’ll be clean as a whistle. The energy is only 20, so it’s still super weak, but if you’re desperate for a slide on a longboard or a foamie, that’s your window. After that, it’s more of the same: tiny, weak, and mostly onshore for the rest of the weekend and into the next week.
From about Monday July 13th through to the following weekend, we’re looking at a real flat spell. Swell heights drop to near zero, with wave energy bottoming out at 0 for several days. There are a few tiny windy bumps mid-week, but nothing worth paddling out for. A very small 3ft easterly swell pops up on Sunday afternoon, July 19th, with a 4-second period and only 34 energy – that’s windswell mush, and not really surfable with any joy.
In short, it’s a long quiet stretch. If you’re itching for a paddle, Saturday July 11th morning is your best bet for clean, tiny waves. Otherwise, the forecast is pretty bleak through the whole 16 days. Hang tight, it’ll turn around.
