The Lowdown
Okay, let's be real with you. The next couple of weeks are a bit of a slow burn, and you're going to need a bit of patience. The water is about 61°, which is pretty much normal for the season, so you won't need anything too heavy.
The first few days are a waste of time. Monday the 17th has a knee-high dribble of about 0.7ft with a crummy cross-onshore wind. Tuesday and Wednesday aren't much better, with ankle-biters and weak energy. You’d be better off doing something else.
We finally see some push on Thursday the 20th when the swell reaches 4ft then 4ft, but the wind swings cross-shore and it’s full of chop. The energy is still on the weak side (199). It's a tease, but it's not what we're after.
Then, things get real on Friday the 21st. The swell jumps to a solid 6ft with a 9-second pulse out of the north. The morning is clean with a cross-offshore breeze and the energy is strong at 483. This is the day. Saturday the 22nd holds similar size at 6ft, but the wind is a little less clean and there's a question about tide. Friday morning is your best bet.
The surf backs off a bit on Sunday and Monday, dropping to 4ft and the winds get a little messy again. It's not a write-off, but it's not the same quality.
From the 25th onward, we're looking at a serious drought. The swell drops under 2ft, and by the 29th, there's nothing but 0.3ft dribble. We're talking about a week or more of flatness. The winds are often clean and even glassy, but with no swell, it's all for nothing.
So here’s the plan: your window is Friday the 21st. That's the standout, with the best size and cleanest conditions. After that, get ready for a long stretch of nothing. Forecasts can change, but right now, that's the only game in town.
Rusty.
