Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sandsend Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Sandsend Bay. To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag and honestly, a bit frustrating. We’ve got a long stretch of poor conditions ahead before we finally see anything worth paddling out for.
The pattern starts quiet and messy. There’s a gap of several days with absolutely no recommendations, but the first real chance of a surfable wave doesn’t show up until Thursday morning, the 16th of July. Even then, it’s not a standout.
On that Thursday morning, we get a 4ft swell from the east, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is a weak 106 (moderate energy), so it’s not packing much punch. The good news is the wind is offshore from the west, which is a light breeze, giving us clean conditions. The water temp is about average for the time of year. It’s surfable, but honestly, it’s ordinary. The same goes for Tuesday the 21st of July – we get a little offshore wind again, with a 4ft swell from the north (combined energy 147), but again, it’s just “surfable” and not pumping.
The best bet on offer looks to be Wednesday the 22nd of July. We’ve got a 5ft swell from the north, with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is a more promising 192 (moderate energy). Most importantly, we get a gentle offshore wind from the west, which will keep the surface clean. This is the one window where you might get a few half-decent walls. For the intermediate surfer, this is about as good as this stretch gets.
After that, it quickly fades back to tiny, blown-out junk. The second week is mostly forgettable – small waves and poor winds. So, if you’re keen, pencil in that Wednesday the 22nd of July. It’s not going to be a classic, but it’s the best we’ve got.
