Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sandsend Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me break down what’s happening at Sandsend Bay for the next couple of weeks. It’s a patchy run, but there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel.
Overall Picture: From Wednesday, July 8th right through to Thursday, July 16th, it’s a long, flat spell. Don’t bother waxing your board. We’re talking tiny waves, mostly under 3 feet, with short periods under 8 seconds. Winds are mostly onshore, cross, or cross-onshore, making everything messy. There are a couple of glassy mornings on July 9th and 10th, but with waves only about 2 feet, it’s barely a ripple. The combined swell energy is weak, all under 100 during this stretch. It’s a real dry run.
Friday, July 17th – The One to Watch: Finally, something to work with. Friday morning we see a clean 5-foot swell from the NNE, with an 8-second period. The combined energy jumps to 257, which gives it some punch. The wind is cross-off from the NW, so the wave face will be clean. At 5 feet, this isn't for beginners, but for the intermediate surfer, this is your best bet of the whole forecast. It’s likely to be crowded, so be ready to share.
Saturday, July 18th: Saturday morning is a smaller option, but don’t sleep on it. Swell drops to about 3 feet from the NNE, but the wind swings offshore from the WNW. That offshore breeze will groom the waves nicely. The energy is moderate at 105. It’s not the size of Friday, but with offshore wind, it could be a really fun, clean session for the intermediates.
The Rest: After Saturday, it goes downhill fast. By July 20th and 21st, we’ve got rain and strong onshore winds blowing 19-22 mph, with waves under 2 feet. That’s more of a kitesurfing setup. The second week fades into nothing, with tiny, weak swells and very low energy. It’s a quiet end to the outlook.
Bottom Line: Mark your calendar for Friday morning, July 17th – that’s the standout with the most size and clean conditions. Saturday morning is a solid second choice for a cleaner, smaller wave. The rest is a write-off for a paddle. Hang in there, things can always change.
Rusty.
