Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming our way.
Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, it’s looking pretty flat and quiet at Sandsend Bay. There’s a real dry spell on the horizon. We’ve got a solid gap of several days with nothing worth paddling out for until we get to Friday the 3rd of July.
Through Thursday the 2nd, there’s just not enough energy in the water to bother with. The wind is up around 28 mph out of the WNW, and while it's offshore, it's a strong breeze that makes it a battle. Not fun.
Okay, Friday the 3rd of July is where we finally see a little pulse. Through the morning, we get a 5 ft swell from the north with a moderate offshore wind from the WNW. The combined energy sits at a moderate 327, and with a 9-second period, it’ll have a bit of shape. That’s our one true standout for this period, but it’s not epic—just the best of a quiet run. The afternoon drops off a bit to 4 ft, still clean with a light offshore.
After that, it’s back to tiny dribble. Saturday the 4th has a 2 ft north swell at best, and then from Sunday the 5th right through to Thursday the 16th of July, we’re mostly dealing with waves under 2 ft and combined energy figures in the single digits or low teens. There are a few glassy mornings on the 14th and 15th, but with only 1 ft to 2 ft on offer and short 5-second periods, you’d be struggling to even get a glide.
Water temp is sitting at 58°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
So, bottom line: if you’re desperate, Friday the 3rd morning is your window for a few clean, small waves. Otherwise, it’s a long stretch of flatness. A blank run like this is pretty normal for the area when the patterns stall out. Forecasts can change, but for now, don’t hold your breath.
