Table - best surf conditions forecast for Withernsea over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a grim picture for Withernsea for the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at a real dry spell, so if you’ve got the itch, you might want to look at other hobbies for a while.
The first solid window doesn’t show up until Monday the 20th of July, and even then, it’s not exactly going to set the world on fire. For over a week leading up to that, from now through the weekend, it’s flat or junky. You’ve got a few days where some small swell bumps show up, like this coming Sunday (12th) and Monday (13th) with chest to head-high waves around 3ft to 4ft from the NE and NNE, but the wind is howling onshore at 16 mph, making it a complete mess. That’s kite-surfing weather, not paddle surfing. The combined energy is weak to moderate at best (54-147), but the conditions are so blown out it’s not worth a second look.
The real story starts Monday the 20th. That’s the one day that scrapes a “1” out of 10, and for Withernsea, that’s as good as it gets in this forecast. The morning has some 4ft swell from the N with a cross-off breeze from the SSE at 9 mph, keeping it clean (combined energy 198). The afternoon looks even better: the wind swings to a clean offshore from the WSW at 16 mph on a 3ft N swell (combined energy 94). It’s small and weak, but it’s the cleanest thing we’ve seen all forecast. Tuesday the 21st stays clean but the waves drop off and the wind picks up again. Wednesday the 22nd afternoon has a bigger pulse of 6ft from the N (combined energy 354), and it’s clean, but the forecast flags it as marginal.
For the true standout, it has to be Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd at Withernsea. The swell hits 6ft from the N, the best size of the whole run, and with that cross-off wind from the WSW, conditions should be clean. It’s pushing into a bit more size, and the combined energy is moderate to strong (354). It’s late in the run and a week and a half out, so treat it as a promising possibility rather than a guarantee.
The water temp is average for the time of year. Honestly, this spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and this forecast really shows it. Days like Monday the 20th are your best bet if you’re desperate for a paddle, but that Wednesday afternoon is the one to keep an eye on.
Rusty.
