The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk Linkys. It’s a reef and point setup, and it’s inconsistent – so don’t expect it to be firing every day. The water’s about 67°, a touch warmer than average for this time of year, so nothin’ wild.
The long and short of it is: there’s barely any surf to get excited about for the next two weeks. The first week is a total dud. From Thursday 16 July right through to Wednesday 23 July, you’re lookin’ at tiny, weak swell – mostly 0.3 feet to 0.7 feet, sometimes with a bit of energy but nothing rideable. The combined energy is mostly single digits or low double digits, way under 100 (weak), so it’s flat. The wind is often cross-off, which would be okay if there was any wave, but there isn’t.
You get a brief pulse on Monday 20 July afternoon, with a 3 feet swell from the SSE, but it’s got a period of only 4 seconds – that’s short-period, choppy, and messy. The wind is cross-shore, so it’s not clean. Not worth paddling out for.
Then from Tuesday 21 July afternoon, things get a bit more interesting. The swell jumps to 6 feet from the SSE, with a short period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy hits 243 (moderate). That’s the biggest swell of the whole period. But it’s still short-period, and the wind is cross-off, so it won’t be that clean. For a reef and point, you want a longer period to get good shape. At 6 feet, it’s a bit much for beginners, but okay for intermediates. Still, with the poor conditions and the spot being inconsistent, it’s not a standout.
After that, it goes quiet again. There’s a bit of 3 feet to 3 feet swell from the SE around Thursday 23 July to Saturday 25 July, but the wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, and the periods are short (7-8 seconds). The combined energy is in the 60-107 range (weak to moderate), but it’s just not clean.
The only real glimmer comes on Sunday 26 July afternoon. The swell is 3 feet from the SE, period 7 seconds, and the wind goes offshore from the SW at 12 mph. The combined energy is 107 (moderate). The report says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – it’s the only time in the whole 16 days you get a recommendation at all. But it’s still not great, and the wind is moderate, so it’s not glassy.
Then it’s flat again from Monday 27 July morning through to the end of the period on Friday 31 July. Tiny 1.0 feet to 1 feet swells, with some glassy moments but no wave to speak of.
So, the honest truth is: there’s no standout session here. The best you’ll get is a very ordinary wave on Sunday 26 July afternoon, and even that’s not worth a special trip. This break is inconsistent, and it’s showing it. The second week is even quieter. If you’re desperate, you might get a couple of small, weak waves on the 26th, but don’t hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a hard pass.
