The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty checkin' in from the Linkys region. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks look pretty grim for a proper paddle. We're gonna need some patience.
The first real chance of anything rideable doesn't show up until Monday the 20th of July, and even then it's a struggle. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 68°, so that's something.
For that Monday morning, we’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell sneaking in from the southeast with a weak 10-second period. The combined energy is a paltry 54 (weak), and while the wind is light offshore from the southwest, the waves are just too small to get excited about. It's surfable, but it's a "make the most of it" kind of session.
The charts keep looking flat through the week. There's a spike in energy on Tuesday the 21st with a 5 ft SSE swell, but the period is a short, crumbly 6 seconds and the wind is cross-shore. That's a messy, junky 138 (moderate) energy that won't be any fun on a paddleboard.
We get a few more chances, but nothing stands out. The best-looking window might be Sunday the 26th of July afternoon. We get a 4 ft SSE swell, but it's a tiny 4-second period, so it's all wind chop. The offshore wind (W 12 mph) will keep it clean, but a 4-second period is just a washing machine. The energy is only 57 (weak).
After that, it's back to tiny, weak swells with very ordinary conditions. The morning of Tuesday the 29th of July is glassy with a 2 ft SE swell, but it's so small it's barely a ripple. The energy is a weak 50.
Honestly, through this whole 16-day window, the swell is tiny, the periods are short, and the consistency is poor. There's no standout day. It's a classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The break is inconsistent and rarely offers gems, and this window proves it. For a surfer, it's a write-off. For a kite surfer, a few of those afternoons with a bit more wind and a bit more chop might look a bit more interesting, but for a paddle, it's a hard pass.
Rusty.
