Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a bit of a write-off. We’re looking at a long dry spell with very little to get excited about. The first decent pulse doesn’t show up until the very end of the window, so we’ve got a solid stretch of flat, gutless conditions to get through before anything worth paddling out for.
From the 10th of July right through the 11th, 12th, and into the 13th, it’s all tiny, weak, and messy. We’re talking swell heights of 2ft dropping to 1ft, with combined energy readings in the teens and twenties (59 down to 21), which is just not enough to push a decent wave. The wind is a mixed bag of cross-on, cross, and onshore, so don’t expect any clean lines. It’s a classic “stay home and wash the wax off your board” period.
The 14th and 15th of July bring some offshore and cross-off winds, which is nice, but the swell is still tiny – 1ft with combined energy around 13 to 14. You’ll get a clean surface, but there’s nothing underneath it. It’s a glassy ocean with barely a ripple. The 16th through the 20th is more of the same, with a few 0.3ft days and a couple of 1ft bumps. The combined energy is mostly in the single digits and teens. Honestly, the 19th and 20th have some onshore 15-16 mph winds, so even the 1ft bump on the 19th will be blown out.
Then we have a bit of a moment on the 21st of July. The afternoon shows a jump – 6ft swell from the SSE with a period of 6 seconds and combined energy of 215. That’s moderate energy, but the period is short, so it’s going to be a bit crumbly and fat. The wind is light cross-shore, so it won’t be too ugly. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird. This is the only real standout in the whole window, but it’s a one-off. The 22nd and 23rd back off again to 3ft-4ft with poor cross-shore chop, so don’t plan your week around it.
The last chance is the 24th and 25th of July. On the 24th, we get 3ft of swell from the SE and SSE, with a period of 6-7 seconds. The combined energy sits at 71, which is weak to moderate. The wind is cross-off, so the surface will be clean. The 25th morning is similar, but the wind picks up to 12 mph, making it cleaner but still small. It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
The best bet is the afternoon of the 21st of July at Linkys (reef and point). That 6ft SSE swell (215 combined energy) is the only real punch in the forecast. The light cross-shore wind will keep it rideable. It’s short period, so it’ll be a bit lumpy, but it’s the best chance for a wave that actually has some push. Just be aware, crowds are likely here, and it’s inconsistent, so don’t expect a lineup full of waves.
Overall, this is a very quiet run. A blank stretch like this isn’t unusual for the area, so don’t lose hope. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
