The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it, mate.
Look, I'm gonna be straight with you. This is a tough run for Linkys. We're looking at a long stretch of flat, weak, and messy conditions. The best I can offer is a couple of windows where it's just barely surfable, but nothing to get excited about.
The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is about average for this time of year, so the only thing you'll be feeling is the lack of real swell.
The first week and a half is pretty much a write-off. From the 19th all the way through to the 26th of August, the swell is tiny, mostly under 3 ft, and the energy is weak (55 to 145). The wind is all over the shop, mostly cross-shore, and the wave comment is "poor surf conditions". It's a long stretch of nothing.
There's a slight spike on the 27th of August. Thursday afternoon sees a jump in swell to 7 ft from the ENE, with a short period of 6 seconds. The energy is moderate (385). The wind is cross-offshore from the S up to 12 mph, which cleans it up, but the wave state is only "marginal". The swell is a bit too big for beginners, and with that short period, it'll be a bit of a mess. It's the only thing that might be worth a look, but don't expect much.
The 28th of August, Friday morning, has 5 ft from the ENE (energy 263), but by Friday afternoon, it drops to 3 ft from the ENE with a clean offshore wind from the SW at 9 mph. The wave comment is "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". It's clean, but it's small.
The rest of the period into early September is pretty average. Swell stays under 3 ft, with periods mostly under 8 seconds, and the winds are often cross or cross-on. The combined energy is weak, and it's consistently "poor surf conditions" or "surfable but very ordinary".
So, the standout here is that Thursday afternoon, the 27th of August, if you're an expert and desperate. The 28th of August afternoon is the cleanest of the small stuff. Honestly, the best advice is to keep an eye on the charts, because this stretch of poor surf is a long one.
Rusty.
