The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk in feet and miles. Rusty here, and Linkys is looking dead.
This is a long, lean stretch. The swell energy is weak to non-existent for weeks. There is no day that screams “go.” You’re looking at a drought.
Starting Saturday, August 22nd: 2ft from the ESE, cross-on wind, energy at 83. Forget it. Sunday is even smaller. Monday the 24th has clean offshore wind but the swell is a ridiculous 1ft. It’s clean, but you’d be paddling for nothing. The period is 12 seconds, which is nice and long, but there’s no power.
Wednesday the 26th afternoon gives you the highest energy of the early period at 100, with a 3ft SE swell and clean cross-off wind. That’s the “best” – you might find a knee-high wave. But that’s the highlight, which says everything.
The rest is a wash. Tiny swell (under 2ft), onshore or cross-shore winds, and chop. By the start of September, you get long-period groundswell (up to 16 seconds!) but with only 0.6ft to 1ft of height – all length, no punch. Glassy and flat.
The only pop comes Sunday, September 6th: a 4ft NE swell with moderate energy (167). But the wind is onshore from the NE, the period is a short 7 seconds, and it’s over a week out. Don’t hold your breath. Right now, it’s a messy, weak option.
For the whole 16 days, there’s nothing worth chasing. If the wind is offshore on the 24th, you might get a clean little ankle-snapper, but that’s being generous. This is a stretch for the kites, not the paddle crowd.
Rusty.
