Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at Linkys. I gotta be straight with you – this stretch ain’t looking great, and there’s not much to get excited about for a while. The good news is this spot can snap out of it, but for now, we’re staring at a dry spell.
The first solid chance doesn’t even roll around until the morning of Monday, July 7th. We get a bump in swell then, with waves around 5 ft coming from the SE, but it’s a short period affair, only 6 seconds, and the wind is onshore from the east at 12 mph. The combined wave energy is moderate at 140, but conditions look poor. That afternoon it builds to 6 ft from the ESE, with a bit more period at 8 seconds and energy jumping to 403, but it’s still onshore and messy. This is really just for the experienced crew.
Tuesday, July 8th is a bit more promising. Morning has 6 ft from the east, period 8 seconds, and solid energy of 511. Wind is onshore though, from the ENE at 9 mph, so it’s still marginal. The afternoon cleans up a bit – wind goes cross-shore from the SE at 9 mph, swell drops to 5 ft, and the energy is still decent at 324, but the wave comment says it’s marginal. Not a standout.
Now, Thursday morning, July 9th, is where you want to be. We get clean, offshore wind from the WSW at 9 mph, with 3 ft of ESE swell at 8 seconds. The energy is moderate at 140. The wind state is gentle offshore and clean, so the waves will have some shape. It’s surfable but very ordinary – a small window for a patient surfer. Water temp was 64°F on the 4th, which is about average for this time of year, so the water won’t be a shock.
After that, it gets tiny again. Friday morning July 10th is completely glassy with only 1 ft swell, and the rest of the week stays below 2 ft, mostly onshore or cross-on, with very low energy. There is a chance on Monday morning July 14th with 3 ft from the east at 8 seconds and 115 energy, but that’s cross-onshore and choppy. No good.
The best on offer is really that Thursday morning July 9th at Linkys. It’s not pumping, but with clean offshore wind and 3 ft of ESE swell, it’s the only session that looks surfable. Keep in mind, Linkys is a reef and point break, inconsistent, and can get crowded often. The swell direction from the ESE isn’t a perfect match for its optimum NE direction, but with clean wind, it’ll still offer a few lined-up waves. For beginners, 3 ft is fine, but the reef bottom means you gotta know what you’re doing.
After the 9th, we’re looking at a long gap of over a week with no proper recommendations. It’s flat and poor. That’s the reality.
Rusty, signing off.
