Alright, Rusty here. Let's suss this out for Linkys, the only show in town for this stretch. It's a tricky spot, a reef and point set-up that's famously inconsistent, and this outlook is a real test of patience. The swell is almost non-existent for the first week and a half, so you're looking at a long, flat spell.
The water is sitting at around 66°F, which is about a degree and a half warmer than you'd usually get this time of year, so that's a nice little bonus for the wait.
From Sunday the 12th to Thursday the 24th of July, it's pretty much a write-off. We're talking tiny scraps of swell, mostly under 1ft, with weak combined wave energy mostly below 30. The wind is often cross or cross-off, which keeps it clean, but with zero size, there's nothing to ride. There’s a couple of days in that first week where the period drops to 9 seconds, but with that tiny height, it’s still just a lake. This is a long gap with nothing on offer.
Then, on Wednesday the 22nd of July, the ocean finally remembers it's supposed to have waves. We see a jump to 5ft from the SSE with a super short period of 6 seconds. The combined energy hits 128 – a moderate pulse – but with a cross-onshore wind, the quality is going to be a mess. Wouldn't be surprised if this one looks more like a kite-surfing session than a paddle-surfing one.
The real standout, if you can call it that, comes on Friday the 24th of July. We get a 2ft swell from the East with a 7-second period. It’s not huge, but the combined energy is a moderate 54, and more importantly, we get clean conditions. Friday afternoon sees a light offshore wind from the WSW, which is right in the zone for this break. The waves will be surfable, just very ordinary, but for this area over this period, that's your best bet. It’s small, so beginners could have a crack, but the inconsistency is the real issue here. Crowds are likely to be a problem at the best of times, and when it's this marginal, everyone will be on the same handful of waves.
After that, it drifts back down into the doldrums. If you're desperate for a paddle, Friday the 24th is the day to be out. Otherwise, it's a wait-and-see game. Forecasts can always change, but this one is a real struggle.
Rusty.
