The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. It's gonna be a quiet spell at Linkys for a while, so let's not beat around the bush.
Right now, we're looking at a long, dry stretch. Linkys is a reef and point setup that only breaks inconsistently at the best of times, and unfortunately for the next week and a half, there's next to nothing happening. The first real sniff of anything worthwhile doesn't show up until Sunday the 23rd of August, and even then it's a marginal call.
For that whole first week, from Thursday the 20th right through the week, it's just tiny, weak swell with poor conditions. You'll see the odd glassy morning on the 20th and the 23rd, but with swell energy barely registering (combined energy values around 48 to 85), it's not going to get you excited. There's a little bump on the 28th of August with a 5ft SE swell and the energy jumping to 153, but with a period of only 6 seconds and onshore wind, it's going to be a messy, choppy close-out. That one is more for the kite crew than the paddle guys.
The best of a bad lot looks to be Saturday morning the 29th of August. We've got some glassy conditions with a light NNE breeze, and a 3ft SE swell. It's still short-period at 7 seconds and the energy is only 75, so the waves will be small and a bit weak, but at least it'll be clean. Still, with the break being inconsistent and the surf being pretty ordinary, it's a longshot.
After that, it's back to flat and average right through to the end of the window. Honestly, it's a tough run. Linkys is known for these spells. The only bright spot is a tiny window of offshore wind on Monday the 31st of August, but the swell is nothing to write home about at 1ft.
So, there it is. A whole lot of nothing, with one or two barely-there moments. Keep the board in the car, but keep the wax in the cupboard.
