The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat run for Las Caracolas over the next two and a half weeks. The swell is tiny and the conditions rarely line up. There’s a long stretch of nothing worth paddling out for, so don’t get your hopes up.
The best we see is on Thursday morning, August 13. We’ve got a clean 2ft swell from the west, with a light cross-off breeze keeping the surface tidy. The combined energy is weak though (60). Still, if you’re a beginner or just want a fun little slide on a longboard, that’s your window. The water is sitting at 78°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s over three degrees above average, so it’s unusual.
Other than that, Friday morning August 14 is also clean with 2ft west swell, but again, it’s tiny. Most afternoons get chopped up by a cross-onshore westerly breeze, and the swell rarely pushes past 2ft. From August 20 onwards, there is a short window of clean conditions on Friday morning August 21 with a 19 mph cross-off wind, but the swell is only 2ft from the WSW – not really enough to get excited about.
By August 26, we finally see a bump in size to 4ft from the northwest, but the wind is messy and it’s still a poor setup. The water’s warm, the waves are small, and if you want a surf, aim for the clean August 13 or 14 mornings. Otherwise, this stretch is mostly a write-off.
