Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s switch gears to feet and Fahrenheit for you imperial folks. Rusty here, and this forecast has me feeling flat.
We’re looking at a long, quiet spell at Jelly Bowl. This break is usually fairly consistent but even it can’t buy a wave right now. The water is about 64°F, which feels a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least the water’s nice.
From Monday the 6th of July, it’s a dud. A tiny 1 ft swell from the SSW with a very long 16-second period, but cross-on wind from the SW at 6 mph messes it up. The energy is weak (226), and it’s just poor.
Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th see the swell bump to about 2 ft, and the period stays long at 16-18 seconds, but that cross-on wind at 6 mph keeps the surface crummy. The energy ticks up into moderate territory (up to 412), but the report says it all – poor conditions and one *marginal* tag on Wednesday afternoon that’s still not worth the drive.
From Thursday the 9th all the way through Wednesday the 15th, it’s a dead zone. Swell runs between 1 ft and 3 ft, but the energy drops back weak (82-249) and the wind is cross-on or onshore. A solid week-plus of nothing doing.
Look to Saturday the 18th for the only bit of hope. The morning sees a 2 ft south swell with a very long 19-second period, and onshore wind from the SW at 6 mph gives a rare chance for clean-ish lines. The energy is moderate (317). The afternoon gets a little more interesting – 2 ft swell, 16-second period, and the energy climbs to 378, earning a *marginal* score. It’s not going to be pumping, but it’s by far the best offer in this outlook. Keep the expectations low though.
Sunday the 19th onwards goes back into the small, weak stuff. Another gap.
The bottom line: There are no real standouts. The best of a bad lot is the afternoon of Saturday the 18th of July. You’ll be looking at small 2 ft south swell with a long period and light onshore wind. It’s a long-range maybe, not a guarantee. For everything else, you’re better off finding a different hobby for a couple weeks.
Rusty.
