Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jelly Bowl over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up.
Honestly, mate, it’s a tough stretch. The first couple of weeks are pretty flat and messy. We’ve got a long, slow grind ahead with very little to get excited about. The first real chance of something surfable doesn’t show up until the 15th of July, and even then it’s nothing to write home about. From now until then, you’re looking at a solid 6 days of near-flat, poor conditions. The water is sitting at about 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a small comfort.
Jelly Bowl (reef) – It’s a beginner-friendly reef break, fairly consistent, but it’s been getting hammered by cross-on winds and tiny swell. The first little glimmer comes on the morning of Wednesday, 15 July. The wind goes glassy, and there’s a tiny 2ft swell from the west with a short period of 8 seconds. The energy is weak (132), but it’s clean. That’s about the best you’ll see for a while.
Then things drop off again. The next bit of hope arrives on Sunday, 19 July. The swell starts to build from the south, hitting 2ft in the morning with moderate energy (436), but the wind is cross-on, so it’s choppy. Not great.
The real standout, if you can call it that, comes on Monday, 20 July. The morning sees a 4ft south swell with a 15-second period, and the wind is light and onshore. The combined energy is strong (887). That’s the biggest and most powerful swell of the whole outlook. But with the wind onshore, it’s marginal. The afternoon bumps up to 4ft, but the wind goes cross-on. It’s not a classic, but it’s the most size we’re going to get.
Tuesday, 21 July still has some pulse, with a 3ft south-southwest swell in the morning, light onshore wind, and moderate energy (333). But again, it’s not clean.
For the rest of the second week, it fades back into tiny, weak, and mostly choppy. There’s a brief glass-off on the afternoon of Wednesday, 22 July, but the swell is only 2ft and weak. By the end of the outlook, on Friday, 24 July, the swell is down to 1ft and the wind is cross-off, which is clean but tiny.
Bottom line: The best on offer is the morning of Monday, 20 July at Jelly Bowl. It’s got the most size and power, but it’s not clean. If you’re a beginner looking for a clean, tiny wave, the glassy morning of Wednesday, 15 July is your best bet. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for very little.
Keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
