Table - best surf conditions forecast for Iluka-North Wall over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. The next few days are a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a couple of real standouts if you’re willing to wait.
First up, we’ve got Iluka-North Wall, a breakwater spot that’s super consistent and works well for beginners. The water temp is sitting about 69°, which is pretty average for this time of year – nothing unusual there.
Friday morning (10 July) kicks off with a clean 7ft SSE swell, but the cross-off wind is a bit strong, and it’s a marginal session. The energy is moderate (1963). Friday arvo gets sloppier with cross-shore wind and dropping energy.
Saturday morning (11 July) is the first real bright spot. A clean 4ft SE swell with an offshore W breeze at just 6 mph – that’s glassy. The period is 10 seconds, so decent shape. Energy is moderate (530). This is a good time for a paddle, especially if you’re just starting out.
Sunday morning (12 July) has a smaller 4ft SE swell with a cross-off wind, but it’s still clean. Nothing special, but surfable.
Now, the big news: the tail end of the week and into the next brings a massive pulse of swell. The best surf in the whole outlook lands on Saturday, 25 July. The morning session shows a 8ft SSE swell, clean as a whistle with a light NW cross-off breeze. The period is 9 seconds, so it’s not a long groundswell, but the energy is strong (1920). That’s a standout for experienced surfers – it’s too big for beginners. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.
The other standout is Sunday, 19 July morning. A clean 10ft SE swell with a gentle SW cross-off wind. The period is 12 seconds, so it’s a proper groundswell with good energy (2128). This one is for experts only – it’s big, powerful, and the long period might make it a bit straight at the break, but it’ll be quality. Crowds are likely.
In between, there’s a big gap of poor conditions. From Monday afternoon (13 July) right through to Thursday (16 July), it’s mostly small, weak, or just messy. Friday 17 July sees a massive 16ft SSE swell, but with strong cross winds, it’s a no-go for paddle surfing – that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing. The energy is huge (6155), but it’s just too big and blown out.
After that, the swell drops back to a more manageable size, with Monday morning (20 July) and Tuesday morning (21 July) offering clean 5ft and 4ft waves with offshore winds – good for a fun session, but not the standout.
So, mark your calendar: Saturday 25 July morning for the best clean, solid swell, and Sunday 19 July morning for the big, powerful groundswell. Everything else is pretty average.
Rusty.
