Table - best surf conditions forecast for Iluka-North Wall over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get this straight. The only spot on the radar for this stretch is Iluka-North Wall, a breakwater setup. It’s been a slow start for the region, and honestly, it stays pretty quiet for a while.
The first decent window arrives Saturday, July 11th, early. The morning brings in a clean 4 ft SE swell with a good 10-second period, combined energy is moderate at 561. Westerly offshore breeze is blowing light at 6 mph, so those waves will be nicely groomed. For a beginner-friendly break that’s very consistent, this is about as good as it gets to kick things off. No hero sets, just fun, rideable waves. The water temp anomaly is about average for the time of year.
That Saturday afternoon, though, the wind swings cross-on from the northeast, and it gets chopped up. Not worth it.
Sunday, July 12th, drops off quick – smaller, weaker swell, cross-off winds. Not your day.
Then there’s a long dry spell from Monday, July 13th all the way through to Monday, July 20th. That’s over a week of really poor to marginal conditions. Big lumps of windswell show up mid-week – 8 ft to 10 ft – but the wind is howling from the SSE at 18-22 mph (fresh breeze), creating a nasty cross-chop. That’s not surf for a paddle board; that’s kite territory. Combined energy spikes hard (1059 on Thursday morning, 1233 on Friday afternoon) but it’s all messy and blown out.
You’ve got to wait until Monday, July 20th morning for the tide to turn. WNW offshore breeze at 6 mph, clean, with a 6 ft ESE swell at 9 seconds (combined energy 546). That’s your second real standout. It’s not massive, but it’s clean and surfable.
Then, Tuesday, July 21st morning is the real gem of the entire forecast. SW wind at 9 mph (cross-off), clean conditions, and a 7 ft E swell with an 11-second period. Combined energy hits 1108 – that’s strong swell energy. That’s a long-period groundswell, so at a breakwater spot like this, it should line up nicely. This is the one for experienced surfers who want a bit more juice. It’s the standout.
From there, the surf fades back down into the 3 ft range through the rest of the month, with a few clean mornings but nothing that’ll get you out of bed before dawn.
So if you’re planning your run: Saturday, July 11th morning is the fun, friendly option. Tuesday, July 21st morning is the one for the crew who want power.
Rusty.
