The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get the heads-up on Es Trenc. The forecast file is pretty clear: we’ve got a long, quiet patch ahead with not much to get excited about for the first ten days. From the 6th of August right through until the morning of the 17th of August, we’re looking at a flat spell. It’s a sandbar that’s exposed, and sometimes you just get these runs of nothing.

The only real stand-out is Monday the 17th of August. We finally get a pulse of swell from the SW, pushing up to about 4ft. The period is short, around 6 seconds, so it’s not a proper groundswell, but the energy gets up to a moderate level (141). The morning looks unreal—glass-off conditions with a light breeze, and the water will be clean as a mirror. For a spot that rarely breaks, this is your window. It’s a sandbar, so the short period might make it a bit fat, but for the beginners this place is made for, it’s the best on offer.

Tuesday the 18th still has some waist-high leftovers, around 3ft from the SW. The morning is clean with a cross-offshore breeze, but energy drops to 91. It’s rideable, but the magic is gone. After that, it fades back to tiny, choppy waves through the rest of the month. The afternoons on both Monday and Tuesday get blown out with side-onshore winds, so get in early.

On those flat, windy days in between, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
