Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coffs Harbour-North Wall over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for Coffs Harbour-North Wall. It’s a bit of a slow-burn start, but there’s a couple of sessions that are going to make it worth hanging your wetsuit up for.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a pulse of swell coming in Friday afternoon, July 10th. The North Wall is seeing a solid 6 ft SE groundswell, with a period of 10 seconds ticking over nicely. The energy is moderate at 738, and the water temp is sitting at 68°, which is pretty standard for this time of year, nothing weird going on there. That SSE wind at 6 mph is cross-offshore, and the wave comment says it all: "expect very good surf conditions." With the swell direction matching the optimum SE direction, this is going to set up some proper lines down the point. It’s got a fairly consistent reputation, and it’s exposed, so it’ll be handling that energy well. This is your standout for the whole week, hands down.
The next morning, Saturday July 11th, is a beautiful window. The swell drops to 4 ft out of the SE, still with that 10-second period, and the energy is moderate at 483. But the real treat is the wind: a light northerly at 3 mph, turning the surface glassy. It’s clean, it’s inviting, and it’s a great call for a dawny. The afternoon on Saturday gets a bit more messy as the wind swings to a 9 mph NNE cross-on, so the morning is the clear winner.
We hit a bit of a lull from Sunday the 12th into the middle of the following week. The swell drops below 3 ft, and while there are some clean, glassy mornings on Monday and Tuesday, the energy is weak and the wave height is small—just 2 ft to 1 ft. It’s not worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate to get wet.
Wednesday July 15th sees a bump in size, with 5 ft to 6 ft, but the wind is howling out of the south at 16 mph. The period is short at 6 seconds, and I’d say the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The energy is moderate in the 200s, but the wave comment is "poor surf conditions."
Thursday July 16th is worth a mention. We get a 6 ft swell out of the SSE with a 7-second period, and a solid 12 mph SSW wind blowing offshore. That’s creating clean, moderate wave faces, and it’s the last real shot at something with size before the energy drops off again. The energy is 302, solidly in the moderate range. It won’t be as tidy as the Friday or Saturday, but for the advanced crew that can handle a punchy 6 ft with some shape, it’s worth a look.
From Friday July 17th onward, things get pretty tame. Swell stays below 4 ft, the energy drops back into the low-to-mid 200s or even the 100s, and by the time we hit Wednesday July 22nd, the energy is sitting at 77. There are a few glassy mornings with clean, ordinary conditions, and the swell direction stays mostly from the east, which isn’t ideal for this break. Surfable, but nothing to get excited about. Through to the 25th of July, it’s a long drawn-out period of small, weak surf. This is more of a normal, quiet spell for the area.
So to sum it up: the standout is Friday afternoon, July 10th, with that 6 ft SE groundswell and clean offshore wind. Saturday morning July 11th, with the glassy conditions and 4 ft waves, is your second pick. After that, pick your mornings carefully if you’re just looking for some glass, but don’t expect any power.
Rusty.
