The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s happening for Cantaoda-Praia-Grande.
Right now, it’s a bit of a slow start. There’s no surf worth paddling out for until Monday the 14th. We’re looking at a stretch of poor conditions with messy wind and weak swell before then.
Monday the 14th is where things first come alive. Early morning we’ve got clean conditions at Cantao da Praia Grande with a light, cross-off breeze. Swell is 4ft from the S with a 9-second period – nothing huge, but it’ll be rideable and clean. The water’s sitting at 62°, which is about a degree colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want a thicker suit. The combined swell energy is moderate (282), so there’s some push behind it. Crowds are often an issue here, so expect some company.
Wednesday the 16th morning brings a jump in size – 5ft from the S, still a short 8-second period, but clean with a cross-off wind. The wave energy is solid (552), making it a decent window for intermediates. Not a standout though, wind might shift later.
Saturday the 19th looks promising for the morning with 6ft from the ENE and a cross breeze, but the period is short at 7 seconds. This is more interesting for experts as it’s pushing towards the bigger side. Energy is strong (542), but the short period will make it a bit crumbly.
Now for the true standout – Wednesday the 23rd morning. This is the one to circle. Glassy conditions, 5ft from the ESE with a 9-second period, and combined wave energy pumping at 672. This is the best window for clean, fun waves. It’s not huge, but for the area, this is prime. Crowds are often, so get there early.
Saturday the 26th morning also looks excellent – 6ft from the E, clean offshore wind from the WNW, and very good conditions expected. The energy is strong (533), and the period is short at 7 seconds, so expect some punchy but quick sections. Another good session if you can handle the short period.
Beyond that, Sunday the 27th has clean surf in the afternoon with a glassy feel, 4ft from the E, and Monday the 28th afternoon finishes the run with glassy conditions and 4ft from the E – a nice way to end the outlook.
So, overall, the best on offer is Wednesday the 23rd morning – glassy, solid energy, and clean. Second best is Saturday the 26th morning – offshore and good size. Don’t sleep on the Monday the 14th morning for a gentle start to the week.
Rusty.
