Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barrinha over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our local patch.
We’ve got a promising start to the forecast period, with a run of clean, surfable conditions kicking off Sunday morning. The real standout sits right at the beginning, with a quality window that’s worth putting a pin in. After that, the surf drops off into a long, quiet spell, before a possible late revival in the second week.
Sunday morning 12 July is the pick of the early days. We’re looking at a clean 4ft swell from the south, with a nice 11-second period and a light offshore breeze out of the southwest. The water temperature is about average for this time of year. The combined energy is sitting at 679 (moderate), and the setup is looking very good. The optimum swell direction is from the southeast, so this south swell is a bit off that preferred angle, but with those calm-offshore conditions, Barrinha is going to be fun and clean. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so expect company.
The swell builds through Sunday afternoon and into Monday, but the wind gets tricky. A 7ft south swell hits Sunday afternoon, but it’s a short 7-second period and a cross-offshore breeze, making it feel messy. Monday morning brings back a cleaner 6ft swell from the south with a gentle offshore wind and a 8-second period – still surfable, but the period is on the short side.
Tuesday morning 14 July is another highlight. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, and the swell is a solid 6ft from the southeast. This is a much better direction match for the break, and the 10-second period gives it decent shape. The combined energy is strong at 868. This is a morning for the experienced intermediate crowd, as 6ft is getting up there for beginners. The afternoon turns into a chop-fest as a cross-onshore wind kicks up a 7ft swell with very high energy (1035), which is more of a mess than a treat.
From Wednesday 15 July right through to Saturday 25 July, the surf goes into a long, tough slump. There are many days in a row here with nothing worth chasing. The wind is mostly cross-onshore, the swell is small, weak, and wonky. The energy drops down to two-digit and low three-digit numbers. It’s a real dry spell. You’ll see a brief flicker of a long-period south swell on Thursday 23 July morning, but at only 2ft, it’s not enough to get excited about.
Then, a hopeful pulse arrives on Saturday 25 July. A 6ft south swell rolls in with a 12-second period. The energy is high (937), but the wind is a light cross-onshore, giving it a “marginal” look. It’s a promising long-range signal, but still a bit uncertain.
Sunday morning 26 July is the best bet in the second week. A clean 4ft swell from the south-southeast, with a very long 14-second period, and a light cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is 881 (strong). This is a proper groundswell. The long period means longer lulls between sets, making the paddle out easier, but at a beach break, it can sometimes be a bit too straight. Still, with those conditions, it’s a solid option.
After that, Monday 27 July offers a final 5ft south swell with a 9-second period and a cross-offshore breeze – clean, but not as special.
So, if you’re paddling out, make it Sunday morning 12 July or Tuesday morning 14 July for the cleanest, most fun waves. The second week is a gamble, but keep an eye on Sunday 26 July as a promising, if less certain, option.
Rusty.
