Table - best surf conditions forecast for Venice Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a rough start. For the first week and a half, from Thursday the 9th right through to Friday the 17th, there's just nothing doing. The surf is small, weak, and the conditions are mostly rubbish. We're looking at a solid 9-day stretch of poor surf, with the combined energy of all swells directed here barely breaking 100, often just a measly 100-300 (weak energy). It's not worth paddling out for.
The water temp is sitting at 67°F right now, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it won't be a cold wait.
Then, things start to look a bit more promising. On Saturday the 18th, we get a bit of a pulse. The morning is looking glassy with a calm wind, and a 2ft groundswell from the SW with a very long period of 18 seconds. The energy jumps up to 484 (moderate wave energy), and the wave comment says "expect good surf conditions". That glassy morning session at Venice Pier will be the one to target. That long period (18 seconds) is a proper groundswell – it'll have some punch, but it might be a bit wonky and straight on the sandbar, so heads up. By the afternoon, the wind picks up a bit.
Sunday the 19th keeps the energy up, with combined energy hitting 785 (still moderate wave energy) and a 4ft swell from the S. The morning is a bit cross-shore, so it'll be a bit choppy, but still rideable. The swell period drops to 15 seconds, which is still decent.
From Monday the 20th onwards, it fades back down into the doldrums again, with poor surf and weak energy through to the end of the outlook on the 24th. So, the only real window is that Saturday the 18th morning. That's the standout – a clean, glassy window with a touch of groundswell. Don't expect a world-class day, but it's the best we've got in this dry spell.
Rusty.
