Alright, Rusty here, looking at the next couple of weeks for us. Honestly, it’s a bit of a tough stretch. Most of the time we’re dealing with small, weak swell and onshore winds that just won’t let up. If you're desperate for a paddle, there are a couple of moments where the conditions line up just barely enough to be worth a look, but don’t expect any fireworks.
The first real chance for anything decent comes around on Tuesday morning, July 7th. We’ve got a tiny southwest swell pushing in, about 3 ft, with a long 18-second period. That long period means the waves will have some shape and energy, but the problem is the wind is onshore. It’s only a light breeze, but being onshore will keep things a bit lumpy. The combined swell energy is moderate (464). The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. I’d call this marginal—small and a bit bumpy, but maybe a fun longboard session if you’re keen.
There’s another slightly better window on Wednesday morning, July 8th. Again, 2 ft to 3 ft from the southwest, with a 16-second period. The wind is still onshore, but light. Combined energy is still moderate (447). It’s more of the same—small, clean-ish but not clean, and really just a “get wet” kind of day.
Honestly, that’s about as good as it gets. After that, from Thursday the 9th all the way through to Saturday the 18th of July, it’s a long stretch of poor surf. The swell drops off to 1 ft to 2 ft with onshore and cross-onshore winds. The wave energy stays weak, with combined energy values mostly between 125 and 297. For a solid two weeks, there’s nothing that’s worth getting excited about. It’s one of those blank runs where the sandbars just aren’t cooperating and the forecast just won’t give us a break.
The *only* standout—and I use that word loosely—is on Saturday morning, July 18th. We’ll see a little bump up to 2 ft from the southwest, with a 17-second period. The wind switches to a light onshore breeze again, but the long-period swell gives the waves a bit of grunt. Combined energy climbs back to moderate (271). It’s still far from firing, but if you’ve been dry for a week and a half, that might be your best chance for a session that doesn’t leave you totally frustrated. Just don’t expect to get barreled.
Bottom line: keep your expectations low. The next two weeks are mostly about patience. This area tends to have these quiet spells, so it’s not unusual. Check back closer to the 18th—forecasts can change, and sometimes a little bump shows up where we least expect it.
Stay salty,
Rusty.
