Table - best surf conditions forecast for Venice Pier over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day window for Venice Pier is a flat spell through and through. We’re looking at a long stretch of gutless, onshore slop, and there’s nothing in the first week that’s even worth paddling out for. The water is sitting at 68°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only thing that’s mildly interesting.

The pattern is grim. From Saturday 11th July right through to the end of the first week, the swell is tiny – 1ft to 2ft – and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore from the SSW or SW. That’s a recipe for blown-out, choppy junk. The combined wave energy is weak, sitting between 121 and 235 (weak to moderate), and the comments don’t lie: “poor surf conditions” is the story. There’s one brief moment on Friday 17th July morning when the wind goes glassy, but the swell is only 1ft at a very long 19 seconds – that’s a groundswell with long gaps, and at a beach break like Venice Pier, it’ll just close out straight. Not worth the effort.

The second week doesn’t offer much relief. From Saturday 18th July through to Friday 24th July, the swell stays small (1ft to 3ft), the wind stays onshore, and the energy is still weak to moderate (144 to 405). The swell direction is SW, which is cross-offshore for a NE wind, but the wind is never truly offshore. The best you’ll get is “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions” on a few mornings, but that’s just a polite way of saying “still not good.”

The real standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of Saturday 26th July. That’s a full two weeks away, so take it with a grain of salt. The swell picks up to 3ft from the SW, with a very long period of 19 seconds and energy hitting 588 (moderate). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the SSW at 3 mph, almost glassy. That’s the best looking window in the whole outlook – but it’s still a beach break with a long-period groundswell, which means it’ll be fat and closey. Worth a dawn patrol if you’re desperate, but don’t expect perfection.

The only other flicker is Saturday 25th July morning, with 2ft at 21 seconds and energy of 528, but again, onshore wind kills it.

Honestly, this is a blank run. If you’re a local, you know Venice Pier can go flat for days. The forecasts might change, but right now, save your wax and wait for a better window.

Rusty.
