Table - best surf conditions forecast for Venice Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is a bit of a tough one for us, folks. We're looking at Venice Pier for the next couple of weeks, and honestly, the ocean is going to be on a real slow burner. For the most part, we're dealing with small, weak swell and onshore breezes that are going to leave things pretty messy. It’s a classic summer flat spell shaping up, and there isn't a single standout day where everything clicks perfectly. We’re going to be waiting a long time for any real action.
The water is sitting at a noticeably warm 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you’ll be comfortable while you’re waiting.
Let’s break it down. From Wednesday the 8th all the way through to Saturday the 18th, it’s looking grim. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1 ft to 3 ft, and the wind is blowing onshore or cross-onshore almost the entire time. The wave energy is weak, typically sitting in the low to mid hundreds (113 to 444 range). It’s just poor surf conditions day after day. You’ll see a small window on Friday the 17th afternoon with a light cross-offshore breeze from the North, but the swell is only 1 ft with a short period, so you might find a tiny, clean little wave, but it’s hardly worth paddling out for.
The only flicker of hope comes right at the end of the forecast on Sunday the 19th. We finally see a jump in swell size to 4 ft to 4 ft, coming from the SSE with a 16-17 second period. The combined wave energy rockets up to 1209, which is a solid moderate push. But here’s the catch: the wind is howling onshore from the WSW at 12 mph on Sunday afternoon, which will absolutely trash the waves. Sunday morning might be slightly better with a light breeze, but the forecast still calls it marginal at best. This swell has some long-period energy, but at a beach break like Venice Pier with onshore wind, it’s going to be a messy, bumpy crumble. Honestly, for 99% of this forecast, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer to get some runs in than for a paddle surfer.
Stay patient, friends. Sometimes the ocean just needs a nap.
