Table - best surf conditions forecast for Venice Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let's break it down for Venice Pier.
Right now, we're in a slow patch. For the next week or so, the surf is tiny—mostly 1 to 2 feet from the SSW or SW, but the wind is cross-on or onshore, making it a bumpy mess. The water is warm though, sitting at 68°F, which is 4°F warmer than usual for the season. You'll notice it. Still, the conditions are poor and the energy is weak. There's a stretch of about 7 days with nothing worth paddling out for.
Look ahead to Saturday, July 18th. The morning shows a 2-foot swell from the SSE with a very long 19-second period. That's proper groundswell. The combined energy jumps to 472. The wind is almost glassy from the SSW at just 3 mph. It'll be clean, silky conditions. This is the best window in the whole 16-day run. The swell direction isn't exactly the ideal SW, but with that long period, it'll wrap in a bit. It's not a beginner day—the period is long, meaning the waves will be more lined up and better for a point break or reef, but at a sandbar like Venice, it might be a bit straight. Still, with that light wind, it's the one to go for.
The afternoon of the 18th picks up to 3 feet from the SSE (628 energy), but a gentle SW breeze kicks in, putting it onshore. Stick to the morning.
After that, it drops back to small, choppy stuff with cross-onshore winds. There's another pulse around Saturday, July 25th, with a 2-foot, 20-second period swell from the SW (430 energy), but the wind is a moderate 12 mph from the SW, which will chop it up. The 26th has a little potential in the morning with light wind, but it's just too small again.
The standout is clearly the morning of Saturday, July 18th. Clean, long-period groundswell with almost no wind. Don't sleep on it.
Rusty.
