The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer at Sandbanks Provincial Park.
First things first, I gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for the sandbars and points here. There's a massive gap of no real surf to start. From now until the 8th of August, we're looking at nothing but poor conditions with onshore winds and no swell to speak of. The first tiny bit of energy shows up on Saturday the 8th, but it's weak, and the wind is all wrong.
The pattern is basically a bust. We get a few scraps of tiny swell from the 8th through to the 11th, but it’s all wind-affected and weak. The combined swell energy is in the single digits to low teens (2 to 6), which is about as weak as it gets. The period is a paltry 3 to 4 seconds, so it's just wind slop, not a real groundswell. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so that’s not a problem at least.
The only real 'standout' – and I use that term loosely – is the 16th of August. The Sunday morning is showing glassy conditions with a "glassy" wind from the NNW. There's still no swell, but if that wind holds and a sneaky bump appears, you might get a knee-high ripple. It’s the closest thing to a clean window we have, but it's a long shot. The rest of the second week is just more of the same: clean wind but no waves, or onshore wind and no waves.
Look, these long blank runs are normal for a beach-and-reef setup like Sandbanks when the summer pattern sets in. It’s a waiting game. Keep an eye on the charts, because it tends not to stay this poor for too long.
Rusty, signing off.
