Table - best surf conditions forecast for Prainha do Farol over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Prainha do Farol is doing for the next couple of weeks.
First thing: the water temperature is 59°F, which is a massive 6°F colder than average for July. That is *very* unusual, so you’ll want a thick wetsuit. Feels like winter.
Wednesday the 8th is our starting point. The morning is the best of the early days. Swell is a clean 4ft from the SSW, 9-second period, and a light offshore breeze from the NNW should keep it glassy. Combined wave energy is 430 (moderate). The conditions are what make it work – good for beginners. Crowds can happen here sometimes. The afternoon goes cross-offshore with a NE breeze, still surfable but not as good.
Thursday the 9th sees the swell drop to 3ft and get confused. Morning is clean but small, afternoon turns onshore and messy – pass.
Friday the 10th is a write-off thanks to cross-shore winds and chop.
Now, the weekend. Saturday the 11th morning is the real deal. We’ve got 5ft from the ESE, a very long 13-second period – that’s proper, powerful groundswell. Almost no wind (slight air from the NNE) so it’ll be glassy. Energy is pumping at 808 (strong). For a spot that can be inconsistent, this is a rare treat. The long period will make it run a bit straight, but it should still be fun. Sunday the 12th morning is another cracker: 5ft from the SSE, 12-second period, and barely any wind. Energy is even higher at 909 (strong). Those two windows are your best shots.
Monday the 13th is trash – strong wind and short period junk.
Tuesday the 14th morning is back to clean: 5ft swell from the S with offshore NW wind, but the period is only 8 seconds, so the waves will be weaker. Good for learners if the tide is right.
Wednesday the 15th morning is another clean, cross-off session with 5ft S swell and a 10-second period. Energy is moderate at 540. Solid before the afternoon wind.
After that, things drop off. Thursday the 16th through Sunday the 21st is mostly small or windy. Energy readings crash by the 20th and 21st – down to 67 and even 9 (weak). Basically flat.
Then on Wednesday the 22nd we get a weird 5ft spike from the SSW with a terrible 6-second period and moderate wind – junk.
The final day, Thursday the 23rd, has a small 4ft S swell with a decent 10-second period and clean wind – marginal but surfable.
The takeaway: hit the 11th and 12th mornings. That’s your golden window. After that, it’s slim pickings.
Stay warm, stay stoked.
