Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer down at Prainha do Farol. The 16-day window opens with a bit of a slow burner, but there’s a solid window of promise if you time it right.
We kick off on Tuesday the 7th of July, but honestly, it’s not worth paddling out. The swell is coming from the SSW at 5ft, but it’s a short-period 7-second wind swell, and the cross-shore wind is making a mess of it. Wave energy is moderate at 510, but the conditions are just not there. You’d be fighting chop for no reward.
Wednesday the 8th is where we start to see a glimmer. The morning is absolute glass with a NW wind at 3 mph, and the swell drops to a cleaner 4ft from the SSW with a period of 9 seconds. Wave energy is solid at 441. It’s not huge, but it’ll be clean and fun for a beginner-friendly wave. This is the pick of the first few days.
Thursday the 9th keeps things small but tidy. Morning brings a clean 3ft from the ESE with a cross-offshore wind, making for some nice little lines. Wave energy is down to 251, so it’s weak, but for a longboard or a foamie, it’ll be a pleasure.
By Friday the 10th, the swell builds a touch, but it’s a bit messy with cross-shore winds. It’s surfable at 3ft to 4ft from the ESE, but nothing to write home about.
Now, Saturday the 11th is the first standout. We’ve got clean, cross-offshore winds from the NNE at 9 mph, and the swell jumps to 5ft from the ESE with a nice 13-second period. That’s groundswell energy, and you can feel it in the combined energy reading of 722. The waves will have real push and shape. The break is inconsistent, so you’ll have to be patient, but the sets that come through will be worth the wait.
Sunday the 12th is the big one. This is the best on offer across the whole outlook. Morning sees 7ft from the S with an 11-second period and clean cross-offshore wind. By afternoon, it goes glassy with a 6ft SSE swell. The combined wave energy hits 1192 in the morning and 1118 in the afternoon. This is full-on, powerful surf. Water temperature is 60°, which is 6° colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a good 4/3 wetsuit, maybe boots. This swell is over 5ft, so it’s not for beginners; it’s expert territory at over 5ft. Crowds are possible here at Prainha do Farol, but on a day like this, the lineup might be thinned out by the power.
Monday the 13th is a write-off. Strong SSW winds at 19 mph, messy cross-shore chop, and a dropping swell. Leave the board at home.
Tuesday the 14th morning brings a reprieve with glassy conditions and a small 3ft SSE swell, but it’s weak. Afternoon turns into a messy onshore affair.
From Wednesday the 15th onward, the swell drops right off. Wave energy falls below 115, and by the 16th of July into the 22nd, we’re looking at tiny waves from 1.0ft to 2ft. The wind is often strong and clean, but there’s just no swell to work with. The last week of the outlook is a flat spell. If you’re desperate, there might be a ripple on the 22nd with some SSW swell building to 2ft, but it’s weak and won’t deliver.
Your call to action: Saturday the 11th morning for clean, punchy groundswell, and Sunday the 12th for the biggest, most powerful waves of the window. Get on it.
Rusty.
