The Lowdown

Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.

To be straight with you, the next week and a half looks pretty grim for a proper paddle. There’s a whole lot of small, junky swell and onshore or cross-shore winds messing things up. We're looking at a long stretch of nothing worth getting excited about. The only real window where things might come alive is around the 14th, and that’s a week and a half away, so treat it as a promising idea rather than a sure thing.

For the first several days, everything is just weak. Tuesday morning the 4th has a clean-ish 3ft, but it’s short-period, east winds, and just feels ordinary. The energy is weak (169). After that, it’s a whole lot of poor quality. The wind is mostly cross or cross-off, which chops things up. The swell stays small and short. There’s a few days with almost nothing on offer. We’re talking about a week of this, maybe a bit more.

The first real standout is the morning of Thursday, the 14th. That’s when the charts finally show something with a bit of life. We’ve got a 5ft southeast swell, but the period is a very long 15 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell. The energy jumps way up to 877, which is a strong pulse. The wind is light and offshore from the north, so it should be clean. This is the one to circle. The morning looks like the best bet. The afternoon gets messy as the wind swings around and picks up. This is a solid swell for the keen ones, but the long period could make it a bit full at the beach, so maybe a board with a bit more foam under your chest is a good idea.

The next morning, Friday the 15th, still has some 3ft leftovers with a 13-second period and a clean cross-off wind, but it’s a step down. The energy is moderate (236). It’s okay, but not the standout. After that, the run of poor conditions and small swell returns for the rest of the window.

So, there you have it. A long, frustrating stretch, but the 14th is the one to wait for. It’s a while off, but it’s got the makings of something good if the wind holds.

Rusty out.
