The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's happening at Point Aux Pins. I've gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. There's no swell on the cards for the entire 16-day window. The first couple of days, August 10th and 11th, tease us with tiny, weak, low-period swell, but it's so small and messy it's not worth paddling out for. The combined swell energy is pitiful, and the winds are all over the shop, so any energy that does show up gets chopped up real quick. After that, the swell drops off completely. We're looking at a long, flat gap from the 12th all the way through to the end of the month.
Now, this isn't super surprising for the area. Point Aux Pins (Alabama) is a point break that needs a proper push from the SW to get going, and that just isn't happening. When it's on, it can handle a good south-west groundswell, but without it, we've got nothing. For now, the forecast is what it is. Standouts? There aren't any. The only thing remotely interesting is the Wednesday morning of August 13th – it's showing glassy conditions but with zero swell. You'd be staring at a lake. On a positive note, the water temp is about average for this time of year, so if you're keen on a flat paddle on a board, it won't be freezing.
We get a few clean, offshore wind days late in the second week here and there, like August 17th morning and the 24th morning, but they're all on flat, zero-energy days. It's just not going to happen. This setup, with no swell and clean wind, would be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer right now. Keep the board in the car, but don't hold your breath. Remember, forecasts can change, but for the next 16 days, Point Aux Pins is a no-go for any kind of real surf.
Rusty.
